There’s this weird shot that QT does that I love where he shows a character in the foreground, and when the character leaves the frame, the shot stays in shallow focus so the entire picture is completely blurred.
He does it in PF when Vince leaves Mia’s house after blowing him a kiss,
The second-to-last shot in JB, when Max is watching Jackie drive off,
And when Bea leaves her chair after killing Bill.
They all seem to have been used in the same type of situation.
In Jackie Brown, when Jackie is making coffee for Max, she puts the kettle on and max says “you went out this morning and bought a gun?” and because of the noise the kettle is making Jackie doesn’t hear him and says “Sorry I didn’t hear you” so he repeats what he says. It reminds me off that similar scene in Volume 2 between Budd and Elle in the trailer with the blender.
In the Japanese version of the Vernita scene, it shows a closeup of Vernita pouring the coffee, which I think is a reference to the visual pun of Jackie pouring “Coffy” in JB in the same scene Ify mentioned.
I got a very strong feeling, watching vol. 2 even just the first time, that Elle was ultimately very jealous of Beatrix, and was so happy she wasn’t around anymore for the fact that she got more of Bill’s attention, phone calls, etc. That she was more important now that Beatrix wasn’t around. Did anyone else get this feeling?
Thanks to whoever posted those links to those clips earlier, btw. ( I can’t remember who it was. )
P.S. I’m new here. Hello to everyone. So glad to find such a cool complete forum to discuss my favourite movie (s) and director.
In volume 2, Daryl Hannah’s character is left dieing just like her character Blade Runner was left dieing…arms and legs flailing, as she lays on the ground. Even the framing is similar.

Not sure if this has been discussed before, but The Bride aka Black Mamba sets out to kill everyone on her Death List. It kinda takes the fun out of it when Elle Driver killed Budd before The Bride got to him.
BUT…
in a way Black Mamba does kill him.
Surely, this is significant
don’t know if this belongs here, but in the Two pines scene
the bride asks how she looks, before bill and posse start shooting everyone. before bill dies he asks the bride how she looks. in a sense both died before this was asked, just thought it was a cool thing on QT’s part.
Yeah, Budd sure has put on a few pounds since Reservoir Dogs…it must be all those margaritas…
I like how Bill’s eyes turn pre evil during the scene where Tommy says “I guess I just like to live dangerously” (or something like that) and Bill replies “I know just what you mean!” and his eyes just burn up.
I will be getting the Volume 2 DVD today as it has just been released today in the UK and so I will be hoping to spot more nifty little shit to put in here.
I thought when Bill is playing his flute, during the introduction of Bill and off course when the legendary “Il Tramonto” plays, it is funny when the Bride turns to The Organ Player, because she isn’t sure if the sound is coming from Bill or not, or if The Organ Player is playing the tune.
i think it’s kinda funny how beatrix gets up almost immediately after bill dies, but waits a few seconds after she kills o-ren
Well she does stay their for a while with tears in her eyes, but I suppose she can’t bare the sight of having to see her former lover and father of her child dead on the floor like that.
I find it funny how in Volume 1 when The Bride is fighting Vernita Green, she runs into the next room and The Bride follows her and as soon as The Bride enters the room she dodges an attack that was thrown at her by Vernita. In Volume 2 when Beatrix and Elle are fighting, Elle runs into the next room and Beatrix follows her but fails to dodge the attack Elle throws at her. Both these scenes are shot in the same way too, like after Elle/Vernita run to the next room, we lose sight of them and so we get the unexpecting feeling of the attack.
Whilst Budd is talking to Elle, and Rodriguez’ tune is playing, you can hear part of “Twisted Nerve” (thetune Elle whistles in the hospital) implemented within the Rodriguez tune, which I thought was pretty nifty.
The red cross eyepach that elle wears in vol. 1 when she is going to kill Beatrix in the hospital is one of the coolest eyepatches ever. I wanna get one.
Yeah, also its cool that in vol2, she doesnt where an eye-patch, but half a pair of sunglasses.
Kill Bill = KB
Beatrix Kiddo = BK
lol
Olllld news I know
Just popped into my head just know
I-m s-l-o-w…
This is to a reply to a message a while back. The Trix are for kids line has absolutley positivley nothing to do with beatrix’s name. it was a line that oren and beatrix said while fighting back to back against their enemies when they were part of DiVAS. read tarantinos original Kill Bill script and you’ll see what i mean. Also, if the Bride had ended the movie with a huge decapitating battle with Bill, then it would have been clear that she was the same blood thirsty assassin she was in the beginning and was clearly unable to raise a child as a single mother. The whole movie can be said to be a right of way for Beatrix to start a normal life after her life of killing and murder. Its a revenge movie, but also her way of ending the DiVAS from killing any more people so that is basically her gift back to society that enables her to lead a normal life now. Bill was right, she couldnt have just gone from assassin to record shop working mother in El Paso. Just something id thought id point out, QT knew this as he chose to put the review of kill bill that shows all of this in the dvd case.
Its got something to do with cerreal
blackmamba isn’t wrong and it also does have something to do with cereal where they showed some ad’s (commercials) for the cereal ( I think it was called Trix) and the punchline or the slogan involved the rabbit in the ad not being able to have the cereal and someone would then say, “Silly rabbit, Trix are for kids”!

Although I think you’re hearing things, I’ll have to check it out.
Anywho…
I like it when Reverend Harmony says “Son! Some of us have places to be.” and Rufas says “show do!” Like he has a date with some broad tonight or something. I think all the characters in the Chapel were tired and wanted to go home. You can also hear Janeen say “It’s really hot in here!” as she fans herself with her shirt. This happends just after the Bride gets up to “get some air.”
