The Western

The Assassination of Jesse James By the Coward Robert Ford, 3:10 To Yuma, No Country For Old Men, Sukiyaki Western: Django… seems very promising!

Indeed it does.

“No Country For Old Men” looks like it’s going to kick ass. Hopefully “Blood Meridian” can get off the ground soon too, it has a lot of potential.

Maybe one of our more stylistic directors like QT or Rob Zombie needs to explore this avenue?

I could actually see Rob Zombie doing a western. A bloody one. I liked Devil’s Rejects.

  2. Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid
  3. Once Upon a Time in the West

… You can’t compare the two. The Wild Bunch is just so kick fucking ass and Devil’s Rejects is… not, I do agree that the ending and opening are similiar other than that WB kicks its ass 100 times.

Oh, I agree, but Zombie has the most potential as a director. At least, compared to a lot of the ass clowns in Hollywood today.

Yeah I guess he does. Talking about potential, Eli Roth is gonna blow it if his next movie isn’t any good. I’m gonna stop watching his movies if his next film blows. Make Thanksgiving, dammit!

Cabin Fever- crap

Hostel- crap

Hostel Part II- crap

Maybe he should be a janitor or something.

I’m kind of dissapointed to see ‘The Killer’ avatar and banner is gone. Atleast you’re still doing justice with ‘Get Carter’

Cabin Fever wasnt that bad as people think and Hostel wasnt that bad either.

Lol, it may return some day :stuck_out_tongue:

I think Roth has a lot of potential, but is held back… Cabin Fever is underrated, and Hostel is overated, but they both show talent. I haven’t seen Hostel 2 as I didn’t like the first, but I am still always interested in ROth’s next picture, I think he can do great things, I just thope he does.

I made this thread in the hope that the western would get a revival of some sort and boy was 2007 great for the genre!

With modern revisionist westerns such as Seraphim Falls, 3:10 To Yuma, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, There Will Be Blood and No Country for Old Men, it has made people remember how great Westerns can be. Seraphim Falls and 3:10 To Yuma were pretty average flicks, but the latter three are not just some of the greatest Westerns I have seen, but the greatest films, period. I don’t think I mentioned the Coen Brothers in this thread, which is fucking weird because I always said I’d like to see a Coen brothers Western what with their great dialogue and knack for shocking violence. But damn, No Country For Old Men was truly something special. Just what I wanted them to make. I remember mentioning I’d like them to set it in El Paso too, so yeah, my wish definitely came true. Of course, P.T Anderson and Andrew Dominik were no push-overs, providing us with Oscar worthy material.

I was complaining about the state of Holywood and the film-making business regurgitating the same shit year after year or filling screens up with the most retarded fucking films. But if The Departed and Death Proof didn’t do it, Jesse James, No Country and TWBB definitely rekindled my love for cinema. Major props to The Dark Knight too. What’s notable is the quality of acting in this films. Turns from Brad Pitt, Casey Affleck, Javier Bardem, Daniel Day-Lewis and Heath Ledger (R.I.P) are without a doubt some of the best performances I have ever seen. They’ve definitely given me the fix I needed.

Long live The Western!

I have to admit that the last few pure westerns or post-westerns like No Country and Jesse James were so so good. I think 3:10 to Yuma hasn’t got the recognition it deserves cause it’s of course less good than the two others (haven’t seen Seraphim Falls), but the last 30 mins are real good, close to the Elmore Leonard novel (try to read it, Ify, Leonard is a GREAt writer and the novel is real good - try Hombre by him too).

Seraphim Falls was the shit. I loved every minute of it. it’s such a fucking shame nobody saw it.

Appaloosa also looks nice, btw

It wasn’t released in France; I think cause I never saw it anywhere or I totally missed the release in Paris (which would have been weird).

First time I ever hear about it myself and I’m in France too.
