Last night I saw a new Grindhouse TV spot and at the very end, Stuntman Mike is outside his car and is smiling and saying “THAT WAS REALLY GOOD!” or something like that. It was funny.

Yeah I saw that one too last better than the other trailer that says HOW BOUT THAT LAP DANCE?..

Wow, those two reviewers were at complete apposites about QT’s half. I think, with me personally, I won’t like the film as much when I go watch it, but after getting the DVD and watching it a few more times, I will grow to love it[/quote]

That’s exactly how I felt after reading the script. And why I compared the character interactions in Death Proof with those of Jackie Brown a few weeks ago. Instead of using its characters to tell a story, Death Proof uses a story as an excuse to let us hang out with the characters. Its the complete opposite of what a film’s formula usually consists of. Is this good or bad? Only the final product will give a definite answer. I enjoyed the hell out of reading the bar scene and the first part of the story. But when the second part of the story came up, it felt as if QT just re-started writing the script with different characters. And make no mistake, even if this movie is called “Grindhouse”, QT’s segment will be as dialog-driven as Pulp and Dogs were, maybe even more. Which is kind of strange, because save for one scene, I was expecting a whole lot of exploitable elements to be included in Death Proof. Especially considering the fact that this was his supposed love letter to exploitation cinema in the first place. We just have to wait and see I guess, let’s hope for the best.

Scar: I think youre right, in the end I think Death Proof will be another QT “hang out with the characters film” like Jackie B was. After you watch it a few times you’ll get into the groove of it and enjoy it more each time. It will have the horror elements, the hanging out elements and the car chase elements which actually is awesome.

I know I really loved the dialogue and the poetry of QTs writing in Death Proof. Add that with the visuals, the acting, music, I dont see how it can be a bad movie really.

Just because its not overloaded with gore FX and action doesnt mean its not good either.

It can’t go wrong really…

I mean…how cool is it when Kurt Russel goes: This car is a 100% death proof…only to get the benefit of it…you really need to be sitting in my seat!! 8)

It owns sooooo much.

We’ll see what we think. Im always excited about new QT films, so this thing will really have to be terrible for me to be dissapointed. I dont expect to be anyways.

I like the line “Fair Lady Your Chariot Awaits” more, so scary!

That line really gets my blood pumping…

BOTH FILMS LOOK AWESOME!! ITS NOT ABOUT WHICH IS BETTER ITS ABOUT THEM COMPLIMENTING EACH OTHER!!

PT is really getting me excited now too.

“wheres - the - shit” is going to be a classic line for years to come. That scene is awesome!

Death Proofs concept is pretty damn creepy because it could happen and you can definitely put yourself in Pam’s shoes. We all know how fucked up it would be to be locked into a box with no seatbelt, no way out and having someone telling you, youre going to die. Not only that but that while YOU die, he will LIVE. FUUUUUCKED UUUUP. :o

The scene with the girls in the diner made me all nostalgic. It resembles the opening scene in Reservoir Dogs almost exactly in terms of the scene and the actual camera movement. Haha, it seems from making films primarily about men, QT has now switched to women.

QT (as well as Eli Roth) drinking with the girls was cool. But already I get a sense of the dialogue almost becoming boring. It does feel like it is forced. But I realy need to see that in the context of the film, so can’t really offer a proper comment.

The Making of? That was already posted like last week. Its been reposted a bunch of times actually.

The dialogue: I have no idea how it will be when its in the movie. Ive never really been bored by a Tarantino movie yet. Theres always slower moments that drag a little, but they never made me want to stop watching or anything.

Id much rather watch a bunch of QT dialogue scenes over any other screenwriters dialogue scenes any day though.

the girls at the diner, that was re-shot in one take after it turned out the ladies had their parts down so well…

Seb, are you going to post a review and give us some info on your GH adventure? Whats taking so long?

Oh don’t get me wrong, I love QT’s dialogue as much as the next Tarantino fan, but the dialogue in Volume 2 wasn’t exactly on par with his other stuff. I mean the dialogue regarding the pregnancy tester always makes me cringe. It felt forced and therefore unnatural. I just want him to get back on track with the dialogue, it’s the only thing i’m not 100% on at the moment. The Making of didn’t exactly allay my fears. I’m not saying I didn’t like it, but the scene with Jungle Julia telling Stuntman Mike about her feet felt very forced, and it just seemed to go on and on, and will most probably be longer in the film. I hope he doesn’t indulge himself too much with the dialogue. The trick is to let the dialogue flow, not to try and get the best possible dialogue going because then it feels forced. You just have to let it flow naturally.

Listen to the dialogue in Volume 2, and compare that to his dialogue in Jackie Brown, Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs, there is a clear difference, and I am not talking in terms of subject matter!!
