ok there are 2 different major systems. the PAL system (Europe) uses more lines and therefore has a better quality - if the source material (i.e. the master) is a PAL content. the NTSSC system (USA and Japan) uses not as many lines as PAL and is theoretically of minor quality.
now if you make PAL DVD from a PAL master the quality is better than if you make a NTSC DVD from a NTSC master, because the systems are different.
if you make a PAL DVD from an NTSC master, the difference is not important, because the source material was NTSC anyway, and you have to fill those additional lines with some stuff, so the end product could even have worse quality.
if you make a NTSC DVD from a PAL master its the same, you loose lines, that means you lose quality. but the question is: can the human eye seee the difference on a standard TV? no
–> you need a PAL TV to watch PAL DVDs. Same with NTSC.
Really? There’s a car going by during a huge civil war?
Yeh, it’s during the part where Tuco says “I think we should tell each other our halves of the secret” and in the background, it is quite far away, you can see a car going past from the right side of the screen and it eventually disappears after like a few seconds!!
How good are the deleted scenes and is the extended version better than the normal one? I heard that they fucked up all the sound effects, updating the noise of the gunshot with some shitty new technology and updating the soundtrack so it doesn’t sound as good as it did originally

Well I though the deleted scenes were pretty good, they don’t add much to the story but still more Leone is better (same goes for Tarantino) Eli Wallach as you know is REALLy old now and his voice has really aged and so it is kind of distracting to hear him in the additional scenes. The guy who dubbed Clint’s voice in the scene after Blondie and Tuco leave the church (where Blondie recovers) doesn’t sound like Clint. But other than that the extended snes are good!!
You get to see how Tuco got those 3 guys to help him out, an additional scene in the desert where Blondie tries to drink some water Tuco used to wash his feet, how another 5 guys started to ride with Blondie and Angel Eyes for the gold and some more scenes.
The gunshots all sound the same but unless you are a hardcore Leone fan, I doubt it will bother you so much as to me the gunshots are fine!
The soundtrack though not perfect is good enough but “Il Triello” sounds a bit shitter on the DVD than it did on my VHS version.
I’d say the extended version is better than the normal version as that is how Leone intended it to be (a bit like just watching KB Volume 1 and 2 seperately and not the full complete version) Nothing gets taken away but its good to see the original cut. Apart from Eli Wallach sounding old, it’s ok really you just have to look past this. In my opion only one scene really doesn’t fit in well with the rest of the movie being the one where Tuco asks his friends to help him kill Blondie! I myself prefer this version to the other shorter versions, and I would also prefer it if it said “Il Buono”, “Il Cattivo” and “Il Brutto” on the screen when it shows those particular characters rather then the English translation because it’s cooler in Italian!
Actually, Clint dubbed his own voice in the new scenes.
Yeh, i heard that too and though it was great, but during that particular scene, it didn’t sound anything like Clint. Not even an older version of him, it totally sounded like another voice, the accent was different too!
