DEATH PROOF EXTENDED EDITION AT AMAZON.COM

This is probably a mistake on their part, but CD-WOW have the Death Proof DVD for sale and it states that it only has a Dolby Digital 2.0 mix. I thought the DVD had a 5.1 track? Can someone clarify whether this is a mistake. Thanks.

Definitely a mistake…

The DVD is great, but the film is NOTHING compared to watching it in an actual theatre, where it was made to be seen. I’d really perfer fullscreen to widescreen as well. Hell, I think I’d perfer VHS to DVD on Death Proof as well!

You’re kidding?

Well,it’s your opinion…

But I hate for example Kubricks madness for Fullscreen

And I love Leone for his madness for Cinemascope

But I think I understand your point: Because it’s a Grindhouse Picture you’re rather see it on filty VHS and Fullscreen!?

why do you hate kubrick’madness for full screen?

btw the aspect ratio of eyes wide shut on dvd is full screen but in cinema the ratio is classic 1.85. (there are nearly zero cinemas nowadays that are equiped to project 1.33 anymore…)

Because I prefer Widescreen…

Fullscreen reminds me in watching TV, and I don’t watch TV, if ya know what I mean

off topic!

well everyone go to best buy now and buy a 50 inch plasma and a 7.1 dolby system haha, THAT beats the movie theatre…hehe

The movie plays better the way its cut in this unrated dvd edition. I wonder why the b/w sequence wasen’t played, I really enjoyed. I like how Stuntman Mike stalks these women without them even knowing.

80% of exploitation films had poor film and sound quality. QT and RR had the same idea in mind when they made Grindhouse. This is cleary true because they used this device of chopping and scratching the film that the movies were shot on. -Cleaning this up by putting it onto DVD, a rather clean and reliable format, takes away from this quality. The idea of Grindhouse was based around this old media.

Yes but you should wait 20 years then you can get a real grindhouse experience ;D

I got my DVD in the mail today (import from the US) and I’m very happy.

The DVD cut has slightly more stuff in it than the european extended version. Nothing to write home about, really just a few tiny bits.

I still noticed because I’ve seen this 4 times in theater, and my last time was only 5 weeks ago.

Now, to the scenes! This should only interest hardcore Death Proof enthusiasts, real fans. Also, I can’t be arsed to really time this shit, the seconds are only estimates. And maybe some of this is in the US-cut, which I haven’t seen.

Shanna sits down by Lanna Frank on the porch, who gives her the pipe. “Now this party can really get started” “…” (about 3 seconds)

When the girls are again approaching him with the car, Mike quickly looks at his bloody arm. (about 1,5 seconds)

The camera stays on Kim and Abernathy a little longer after they say “Let’s get him” (about 1 second)

Zoe hits Mike with the pipe a few times more often, Mike’s perspective (out of the car shot) is used a little longer. (2 secs)

They also punch him up longer in the final scene, hitting him a couple of times more. (2 secs??)

When Mike sees the girls, he spits out his Vodka. Then they CRASH into him. On the DVD, we additionally see his steering wheel (suggesting that Mike hits his head on it, I didn’t really see that happen though) (0,4 secs?)

When he kills Pam, her head actually cracks the glass and SMASHES into the dashboard. (0,4 secs?)

The “Wilhelm scream” is added, right after the car crash, Mike slides down the road.

The car crash itself is also a tiny bit different. But to be able to tell the difference I’d either have to be an autistic genius or have both versions available. All I can say is it’s a tiny bit better now and I don’t think that in the theater, Pam flew into the air and landed on the street before everything else.

I also noticed some additional audio, like a a grunt by Zoe (a nice grunt)

Quentin has said on the DVD extras that they had very little time to edit Death Proof, so I guess he made his perfect version with the DVD.

additional audio:

Pam laughs after “who´s yor brother?” "Stuntman Bob"

Butterfly chuckles after Mike says “You´re goin´in the book.”

Am I right with that that you couldn’t see Zoe flew from the top of the white car after the first chasing even in cinema?

As I watched the DVD for the first time I thought I had seen it in theater and that it is missing on DVD but now I’m not that sure…

I watched it last night with the captions on and during the part when Stuntman Mikes taking pics of the 2nd group of girls, you hear: "click…click…“GOT IT!!”. Its actually creepy the way he says it.

That whole second half is actually creepy when you watch it. The way Mike looks at the girls in the car, touches Abbys feet, takes off one direction, then a few minutes later his car is back in the same place it started from.

you don´t see that in the extended cut either, i´m 100% sure.

No shot of Zoe flying off the car. It just cuts from Mike wiping out, laughing and saying That was fun!..Well, Adios!" to a shot of Kim shooting him.
