i really like war movies but havent seen many. iv seen SPR, BHD, Enemy at the gates, apoc now redux, windtalkers(wtf is up with this movie), couple others but not many. so can what are some good ones. iv heard platoon is good.
If you want to see a truly great war movie, rent Come and See. It is undoubtedly the most depressing, brutal, surreal thing I have ever seen.
It is an absolutely beautiful and disgusting film. It’s about the Nazis in Byelorussia.
Rent this movie, but be prepared for the most crushing film you might ever see.
sorry to keep going on with this, but i really think people ought to see this film.
SPOILERS
There is no other movie that will make you hate Nazis more than this one. This movie makes you absolutely dread war. There’s a twenty minute long scene where the nazis round up everyone in a small town, herd them into a church and burn it. There’s even a shot where they let a woman and her child out, and then roll the child back through the window, just so the woman can watch this. They then slowly light the building on fire. The audio is mixed with the laughter of the nazis and the screams of the people in the building. It ends with the building completely burnt to the ground.
The audio and visuals are beautiful. In one scene, the main boy loses most of his hearing from dropped bombs. Because of this, much of the sounds in the movie are distorted, but the director somehow makes it sounds beautiful. With the exception of one or two dragging scenes, this movie is great. It is not an action movie, nor a character movie, it’s sole purpose is to show the pain and suffering.
THe best war movie ive ever seen.
That film looks really really good from what I just read there. Did you get it online or did you find it ina store?
Here are some war movie recommendations:
Apocalypse Now
Platoon
Full Metal
Saving Private (you’ve probably seen it already)
Windtalkers - Directors cut
Three Kings
Combat Shock (hard to find but WELL worth it)
The Dirty Dozen
The Great Escape
Bullet in the Head
The Deer Hunter (I’m nota huge fan though)
ok il take a look at platoon and uh i just found full metal jacket on vhs in my dads cubrick collection
the best part about Full Metal Jacket was Gunnery Sergeant Hartmen, he’s funny as hell…
a great anti-war movie is A Midnight Clear. it is about a small group of American soldiers assigned to a cabin in Germany. they make contact with some German soldiers, but instead of the german soldiers shooting at them, they start throwing snowballs. after that, there are many twists and turns. this isn’t a comedy, it is a great movie about war and it is one of my favorites
Paths of Glory is the most under-rated war film I have ever seen. Well, it’s more of a war drama than war action but regardless…
I’m also surprised no one has mentioned The Bridge on the River Kwai or Lawrence of Arabia, though I could see why people don’t immediately think war when they think Lawrence.
One of my fav pre 20th Century era War movies is Zulu. Check it out if you can.
Note: Theres already a topic about this subject open I think.
A Rumor of War
The Boys in Company C
I’ve heard really good things about this one called Glory from Kentucky. Kentucky really liked it!
Right Kentucky?
Glory sucks. I hate it more than Windalkers.
Windtalkers is good

Zulu is a phat movie. Don’t rent it, just wait till it comes on AMC. theres a sequel called Zulu Dawn, but i’ve never seen it. another cool movie is Too Late the Hero w/ Michael Caine
Zulu is awesome. There isn’t a single scene of action 60 minutes into it, but who cares. Wasn’t that movie “The Four Fethers” that same out late last year supposed to have something to do with Englands situation in Africa… I.E Zulu.

The four feathers is a remake of the original movie of the same title "four feathers" about the English in Northern Africa-Sudan. The original was well over 4 hours long (it might have been eight i saw this with my dad when i was like 12)
I have not seen the movie "ZULU", but i have seen SHAKA Zulu
a southern African made made about the british in south Africa and their dealings with the Zulu lead by the man known as Shaka.(inspired from the real life story) It is also very long in excess of four hours
Braveheart
the last samurai
Some of these have all ready been listed but they’re the ones I like.
The Patriot
Saving Private Ryan
Basic (okay but sorta confusing)
Platoon
Band of Brothers
Braveheart
We Were Soldiers
