[vol 1 OST] General Kill Bill volume 1 soundtrack talk

Does Tarantino even listen to metal? It’s obvious he knows about music and has a wide taste in but I never guessed he was a real fan of metal. Someone said Fantomas should be on the soundtrack for the metal parts but they’re too cartoonish. Ennio Morricone knows John Zorn. He should hook those two up. Zorn’s film work is great. Not to mention the fact that he can do metal extremely well. Naked City, Pain Killer, the Xu Feng album.

QT chose RZA, Lars Ulrich to do the soundtrack with Additional music by Ennio Morricone. Its HIS movie. End of story.
I’m just saying Zorn would be on my dream score for KB.

Zorn did a lot of Morricone music on one or more of his CDs. is he a composer, too, or is he just a musician?
Zorn has tribute album to Morricone. The Big Gundown is more than just cover tunes, it’s almost a rethinking of Morricone’s work. He is a composer. Some it’s really out there stuff but he’s done everything from chamber music to jazz metal to jewish jazz to noise to genre jumping and string quartets. He plays Saxophone occasionaly but he’s a composer. He’s done scores for doctumentaries, film, gay porn and cartoons.

Morricones music is great all by itself. You should get Morricone’s CDs and listen to them. He is brilliant. The spaghetti western themes mixed with RZA and Lars’ music should be awesome enough for any film geek. If its good enough for QT, its good enough for me.
Morricone’s music is great. I was just saying that Zorn is a genius. Zorn knows Morricone, Morricone thought The Big Gundown was great. If Morricone likes somebody it’s probably for a reason. I will definately pick up a lot of his cds pretty soon. QT knows what music fits his films so my bashing of Ulrich was probably too soon. His connections with metallica and little to no history of real composition makes me wonder though.

I heard from a member of the 5678’s that their “I walk Like Jane Mansfield” will be on the soundtrack album. And there will be another one too. I’m asking them via E-mail but haven’t got any response.

+++I just found a Ronnie Fujiyama’s message on their message board, which said that there will be 3 songs:1) I walk like Jane Mansfield, 2) I’m Blue, 3)whoo hu(?) I can’t remember which song is this.

I’ll let you know later.

The ORIGINAL song from the trailer (I don’t know if it’s already known in the forum) can be reached in kazaa by

1)Typing ‘‘kill bill’’ and then choose and downloading the ‘‘kill bill teaser’’ file. (it is the song not the trailer  )

2)Typing the artist’s name which is ‘‘hotei tomayasu’’ and then downloading the ‘‘kill bill teaser’’ file.

It is not the same, for example the No2 worked for me better and downloaded faster than the No1, (I’m in Greece). Choose what will be downloading faster for your location…

By the way, the real title of the song is “Shin Jingi-Naki Tatakai”…

to me the pinnacle of morricone’s career is the 1960s mod/spy flick “diabolik”. it has the coolest soundtrack you will ever here. its kinda… surf/lounge music meets ravi shankar. very cool. i highly suggest renting it if your local video store has a good selection. in america it’s called “danger: diabolik”.

does anyone know what the song is thats playing in the background on the kill bill website, the surf one, when you can play around with uma’s sword? its hard to tell because its just 1 chord or so but its very cool.
A lot of Morricone’s scores are out of print aren’t they? Too bad.

hmmmm
hmmmm

Dude! Its DIABOLIK!!! 8)

Everytime I watch this movie that theme song gets stuck in my head!

“Deep deep downnnnnnn (guitar twang)” Damn Morricone!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Love this movie! So cheesy and campy but so much fun! Mario Bava rules!

diabolik has definately got the coolest soundtrack. a lot of morricones stuff is out of print, but this particular soundtrack burned up in a studio fire. i guess we could hope for a band to re-record it, which oftentimes happens. i highly suggest renting it because it really cool and i’ll tell you QT would most definatly cite it as an influence. haha but we cant forget the part (its an italian movie) where whoever is translated it was on crack and the guy randomly says “is that stud cumming?” hahaha

Hi, I’m new to this board.

Some stuff RZA hass said about Kill Bill in recent interviews:

Interviewer : Can you tell us if you are working on something new at the moment ?

Rza : I’m always working on music. I’m doing the score and soundtrack for the new Quentin Tarantino movie KILL BILL. Trying to do more movies though, I like doing those.

‘KILL BILL’ OST “I’ve worked on it and still am back and forth. This guy is a mastermind, Quentin Tarantino; I thought I was bad but he is so smart, man… I tell you something, you’ve seen ‘Matrix’? I don’t wanna say much, it’s not my movie, but this is incredible, it is not a cartoon, it is something, genre-defining… I don’t wanna blow the movie!â€?

METALLICA “Yeah, he had a Metallica song in but he came to me and told me he wanted something like that, huge and moving, but to work with my scene. It was a very good piece by Metallica and I had to capture it and it took several tries to make what he wanted. It took three days and it is such a good piece I’m thinking of using it for my song. You know, Tarantino has such a huge knowledge, he could be a Hip-hop producer, if he only knew how to work the equipment.

QT: the next P Diddy?!!

You’re working on the soundtrack for Kill Bill, Quentin Tarantino’s new movie. How did you two hook up?

We met during promotions for [the Hong Kong action movie] Iron Monkey. Quentin’s a martial arts fanatic. We were always kicking it about films and, next thing you knew, we started battling like, “Did you see this?” He started naming a few movies I didn’t know, and I was like, “Hold on, man! Nobody knows more than me!” Then he told me he was working on Kill Bill, which is a martial arts film, and that he’d like me to be involved. It was just natural. I don’t think there is a better person in America to express martial arts musically.

What inspired you when you were coming up with music for the film?

We noticed that [in] a lot of martial arts films that came out in America, the music never really matched the film. If you ever watch Jet Li’s Black Mask, the action is good, but the music makes the action seem corny. But if you watch old kung-fu movies, the action can be mediocre, but the music gets you excited. It gets you hyped. Superman can’t fly to certain things.

You had a small role in Ghost Dog. Have you considered going into acting?

Yeah, that’s actually one of my aspirations.

Ghost Dog is about a hit man who lives by the ancient samurai code. Do you think the director, Jim Jarmusch, asked you to write the soundtrack because of all of Wu-Tang’s previous samurai references?

I think it was a combination of the martial arts connection and the understanding of the code Wu-Tang lives by, which is a brotherhood code, a code of loyalty. Ghost Dog was really about loyalty.

What’s the difference between composing music for a soundtrack and producing Wu-Tang tracks?

Hip-hop music is basically looped every two to four bars, but with a soundtrack, sometimes I fit my music to 12 to 16 bars before I repeat the first note. I always try to put pictures in my music, and soundtracks give me the opportunity to explore that. My music makes you start seeing shit. Especially if you’ve got some good weed!

There are a few hip-hop producers who have started composing for films. How do you feel about that? Is it just a fad?

It’s a fad. Hollywood is very imitative–they follow trends. But hip-hop is a well-rooted culture. It’s not going to disappear after these studio executives give up on it.

what about this Guns’n’Roses/Lars Ullrich song rumor? that guns album seems to actually exist (soon), but what about that song?

about that Guns and Roses thing:

from the research i’ve done now on various GNR websites, it seems like still nobody really can say 100% if it’s SUBSTITUTE or PROSTITUTE and if it’s really gonna be on the Kill Bill soundtrack.

I will now download a few “chinese democracy” songs and then i will tell you if i like it :_)
