The Wrestler. Mickey Rourke rises from the ashes!

Oh, no way in HELL was this flick as good as Rocky! It was good. And it was very very true to the source. (you guys remember that I’m a pro-wrestler? I have my first match in 2+ years in March) But I know that guy. Mickey’s character is so much like so many oldschool guys I know. I was engaged to a guy like him.

Yeah, everything from the way he called the matches to the way he gimmicked his blade was dead on. The only thing that wasn’t correct was the handshakes. There’s a super-secret wrestler handshake. Everything else, everything was so accurate. Especially the way he heard the crowd cheering for him before he went through the curtain into the deli. Very well written. And Mickey did a good job too.

Careful… Rocky Balboa is a different film than Rocky.

Oh, I misread what was said. Thanks for being so anal.

What he said.

But actually, I think I do like The Wrestler more than the first Rocky. Now Rocky IV, that’s a different story.

“If he dies, he dies”

Did y’all notice how FUCKED UP Mickey Rourke’s fingernails are? Ugh!

Gee, so it’s true what my mother said - Women always check the fingernails first. (She really did say that!) LOL!

Robert Rodriguez has weird fingernails to. The nail bed is so long. Freaky.

I actually notice bad finger nails really fast. It’s a big turn off if they’re dirty. It’s just a matter of self respect on the guys part.

What if he’s a mechanic, and the dirty fingernails can’t come clean in a day? I actually think THAT’s a turn-on. I love mechanics.

girls are always pointing out how clean and neat my finger nails are

Haha, well, in that case it’s unavoidable.

At least you’d know he’s good with his hands. :stuck_out_tongue:

Perosnally think its far better than Rocky as well (better direction and far better acting), but yeah, was talking about Rocky Balboa as there were loads of parallels.

Best film of '08 hands down. Rourke delivers a performance of a lifetime and he needs to win that Oscar.

Aronofsky is, dare I say it, the best director working in Hollywood today. I love you QT and you’re the best entertainer, but if Aronofsky continues like this he will reach Kubrick status.

Mickey’s a good actor, I’ve always enjoyed his work. There’s no reason to call it the performance of a lifetime though, cos he’s just, really good.

Wow, wow, easy boy ! Don’t say such things, Kubrick ain’t nobody. Nobody will ever reach his level or status cause nobody can competit in the same category. He has his own.

Now there’s an over-exageration if I’ve ever seen one. Kubrick owns us all, especially Kinick, don’t ask me why, but he does!

Kubrick was definitely a talented filmmaker but he’s vastly different than Aronofsky. The Wrestler was so great because of the script and the performances. Aronofsky directred the script, that’s it. It was definitely lacking in style.

Kubrick was not as good when he first started out. His films received poor or mixed reviews. He was a bit of a late bloomer. Aranofsky on the other hand has had tremendous success with his directing and writing.

Late is a matter of opinion. After The Killing(one of my favs) which was also his fifth film he made some very significant movies including Spartacus, 2001, Dr.STrangelove etc. Let’s remember Kubrick only made 16 films and most of them are very well recognized. Look at Scorsese, sure now he gets the notice he should but before he wasn’t hailed the way he is now, even some of his films which are now considered classics. Plus I don’t think Aronofsky will be the kind of filmmaker that people will look back on and praise.
