Yeah but Woo ain’t no Kurosawa
A Woo Western would be pretty fun, since Peckinpah’s Westerns were a big influence on his own style, it would kind of complete the circle, bringing him back to the beginning. Whether or not it would have a cool story etc is something I dont know. How many slow motion gunfights can you do before it gets to be cliche?
no, but he’s eastern, imagine an Open Range-like shootout directed by the man Woo, would be sick
I know hes Eastern, but I cant say watching a Woo Western gunfight would blow my mind at this point. Ive already seen all his action films which all had Western style shootouts in them in some form or another. So what if theres cowboys and they have old fashioned guns and as opposed to new ones?
First of all, it’s no fun discussing a topic on this forum, coz there are some guys who can’t argue w/o affronts.
And i’m not really in the mood to explain my opinion, when its named “horseshit” after some sentences.
Second: The movies you like haven’t to be my fav; i don’t like neither American Outlaws, nor The Quick and the Dead [ it had some great visual style in it, but thats all ], nor Wild Wild West. All movies mentioned by Pink Floyd. Why should i confirm his opinion or any of yours, when its not mine ?!
And i also didn’t like Kill Bill 2, and just being a fan of western doesn’t make QT the right guy directing one. I don’t wanna see a pulp western, with a lotta references to other movies and cowboys talking about Superman and co. QT couldn’t even direct a straight episode of CSI, he had to change the whole universe of this series. For me he isn’t the guy directing a simple, pure western and so i don’t wanna him. I would take Walter Hill with the greatest pleasure.
And i prefer Gary Cooper or Burt Lancaster in the saddle over Brad Pitt and Pierce Brosnan, so i’m not hooraying about the new movies. Live with that.

You came on here with your opinion, fair enough. But you said some things which were wrong, and so I called you out on those things. It didn’t seem like you knew what you were talking about (“I’m sorry, but this shows that you don’t know what you are talking about.”). So I called you out on them whilst also disproving you. I put forward a fairly lengthy reply to your post, and I justified myself.
Then you said “I’m sorry, but this shows that you don’t know what you are talking about.” to my reply to your post. I asked you to explain yourself and you didn’t/couldn’t. It seems it was just a lame attempt from you to try to come out cool, because it’s always cool repeating what soemone else says isn’t it?!
You act like I just negated all your arguments without justification, when if you look back and read my posts you will see that I have explained/justified the things I said. e.g.
To come out with some horseshit like you don’t want to see a Western by QT is just retarded, seen as you have already seen some of this
. I only said “horseshit” once, get over it.
You’re not in the mood to explain your opinion, but you just did, well done.
Im really hoping QT makes a Western someday. I think he’ll do something really fun with the genre. He wont be discussing Superman in a Western Im sure.
His CSI episode rocked!! Totally spiced up the show and made it worth watching. Loved all his references and the music he picked, “Outside Chance” by The Turtles is one of my favorite 60s garage rock songs.
Contrai: You didnt like Kill Bill Vol 2? You must be the only person on this board who doesnt like it. Personally, I think its QTs best work as a writer-director. I actually like it more than Volume 1!
It’s my favorite Tarantino film, the highlight of his carreer if you ask me
if QT makes a western it’s gonna be a spaghetti western and it’s gonna be really hard to make it original and not let the references become ripoffs, but ofcourse I’d give my life to see it, the more genre’s he makes, the better! crime/kung-fu/horror/war/western? would be a cool genre to add to the list
I’m not saying it wouldn’t be great to see a real wild, cool spaghetti western extravaganza by Tarantino but he’s already proven he’s the King of Cool. It would be nicer to see him approach western with a more serious tone, like Deadwood or Unforgiven did.

Who is Walter Hill?
You do know that Gary Cooper and Burt Lancaster are dead, right?
Wow, with that post it seems you don’t like QT’s use of pop culture. You say you don’t want cowboys talking about Superman like you mean it in a derogatory way. Are you even a QT fan?
He couldn’t direct a straight episode of CSI? Are you out of your mind? His directing style is such that he will ALWAYS standout in whatever he directs. The audience will always be aware of his presence through the camera. He changed the whole CSI universe? How? You are sayig it like it’s a bad thing. Franky, I thought him bringing the history of the characters into the fore and developing the characterisation was a fucking brilliant move. Even if that was the first episode of CSI, I would have still felt for Nick because of what he was going through, such was the characterisation.
I thought Volume 2 was absolutely brilliant. There is no doubt that combined with Volume 1, Kill Bill is a masterpiece.

I don’t see why you can’t be serious AND cool at the same time. Just look at all the serious aspects in his previous films, they have all been pulled off coolely and with aplomb.
QT has said that IB will be his true Spaghetti Western - “More so even than Kill Bill - it will be my true Spaghetti Western-influenced film, but set in Nazi-occupied France instead of the Old West. I see it as a time when you had these no-man’s lands in Europe that really did resemble the Western landscapes of Sergio Leone”

He’s the director of the cool-ass film in my avatar, among other things. 8)
Who is Walter Hill? This kid really IS new!

That’s the first I’ve heard of him. I haven’t seen any of his films nor ever heard him being mentioned anywhere, before today. The Warriors was way before my time, though clearly not before yours. I’m sorry that I don’t know about every single director out there, please forgive me.
And what do you mean by new?
If you dunno Walter Hill, it’s of no use talking to you about Western or movies at all. Btw, he’s the one directing your Geronimo. And thats not his best work, for sure.
And yes, i don’t like QTs use of pop culture. It was sth fresh and new when he starting writing and directing, but its getting odd.
Especially when its not the rite setting for it; for example the CSI thing. When i wanna see the guys making comments about pop culture, i’ll watch the horrible Navy CIS.
His task was to direct 1 episode, in a series of 100+ former episodes; not to make his own thing. I don’t wanna be aware of his presence, but of the characters of the series. He couldn’t keep it straight and simple.
I was a fan of QT, before he made Kill Bill. For you its a masterpiece, for me it’s an overloaded, dysfunctional omnium-gatherum.
cough
contrai, i am speechless
I feel the sameway about the CSI episode. The dialogue was very unnatural when you have seen all the other episodes. Its out of place. Imagine Akira Kurosawa directing an episode of Mr. Ed. He also pushed the gore level for no coherent reason.
But Kill Bill still rocked!
this is way off topic, but really… those were the best CSI episodes ever. they weren’t so much about solving some sort of crime (which isn’t a forensic’s job in the first place but that’s beside the point) but it was fucking intense! and stylish! and cool! and it fucking rocked! (ok i am overreacting, hehe)

It’s no use talking to me about Westerns or movies at all? Aren’t you going a little overboard here, buddy. I’m sure even the high and mighty Contrai won’t have heard of atleast one director. If I don’t know about something, why don’t you educate me on it. Your kind of attitude is what’s wrong with society, you ignorant bastard.
What do you mean by he’s directing my Geronimo? What the fuck are you talking about?
I don’t think his use of pop culture is getting odd at all. He doesn’t over-use it. Kill Bill didn’t have half as much pop-culture stuff as Pulp Fiction. Frankly, when I watch a QT film, I want to see pop-culture references - it’s interesting.
I agree, some of the pop culture stuff was out of place in the CSI episodes he directed. That board game they were playing didn’t seem to fit in properly.
Why do you think they got QT in the first place? If they wanted it to be like any other episode, they would have stuck with the original director(s). But they wanted him to obviously bring something new and fresh to the series, and end coolely, stylishly and brilliantly (which he pulled off with aplomb). You don’t hire The Beatles and ask them to play the songs your garage band normally play!!
You don’t want to be aware of his presence? For someone who claims to know so much about Film so as to not want to talk to someone else about it, you sure don’t know very much about Tarantino. Have you not seen his 4 films? His presence is ever so present in all the work he has done. That’s part of his style. He is as much the star in his films as his leading actors are. Maybe your pretentiousness has blinded you.
Also, I know for a fact that you are in the minority. A lot of the CSI fans I know/have talked to, loved the episodes. They loved what QT brought to it. Just look at the sheer number of people that watched the episodes and bought the DVD. You’re the only person I know of who likes things to be plain, simple and boring. Congratulations.
Please explain to me how exactly Kill Bill is “an overloaded, dysfunctional omnium-gatherum”, I’m intrigued.

Exactly when and where was the dialogue unnatural? Where did he push the gore levels? What kin dof “coherent reason” are you looking for, for such a thing?
