THANKS! I’m adding it to my netflix queue now! If I like it, I will buy it, like I’m doing with Lost in Translation.
Same as lili I’m a huge fan of Sofia. I totally agree with the review you wrote on page 6 or so by the way, and I don’t know why there’s so few critics who could see it as we did, for a SC movie it got pretty bad reviews even in France if I remember.
But my fav movie from her is definetly LiT, not only it has a good esthetism and stuff (that Sofia’s touch), but also the scenario and dialogues really hooked me up. I wont say this movie changed my life but it sure helps rationalizing your point of view about love (in a dead funny way though, Bill Murray is brilliant).
But I really need to rewatch VS since I only saw it one time on a DVD that kept f-ing with the sound volume for no apparent reason, as I recall that really kept me from liking it. It’s too bad I went on watching…but well, it’s a SC movie, it’ll never get old and watching it a second time sure can’t do harm !
Oh and I’ve seen next sofia’s movie as a director, called Tipping the velvet started production in 2007. But no release date has been announced. What’s up with that ? Do you folks have some news to share about that movie?
I think MA got pretty good reviews in France, probably the only place where she was welcomed.
About LiT, I don’t know if I can say it has changed my life either but it sure had such a great impact on me, same for VS. You should rewatch it. It’s a very different atmosphere from LiT but so great. I think I think I needed to see this movie first. Was more appropriated to my age, to my mentality at the time. And then LiT seems something new and again so appropriated when I saw it in theater (too bad I didn’t see VS when it was released).
About that movie, Tipping the Velvet, there’s no news about it anywhere on the Sofia Coppola good places. It was a rumour I think. Cause she said recently she wants to have some rest, take care of her baby and is even scared cause for now she doesn’t feel like writing or has any idea.
Was MA really accepted by the general public in Frances? I heard she got booed at Cannes…
It was booed by the press BUT it got the longest stanind ovation of the fest, which proves that she got recognition of the public and of her peers. When it was booed, it seemed like only 4 or 5 journalists did it, and only foreign one. French press welcomed the movie really good.
This post is for every Sofia Coppola fan but more precisely for Seth Gecko if he reads this :-*
From wwd.com:
[i]LIGHTS, CAMERA, FASHION: Filmmaker and writer Sofia Coppola confirmed she has directed the latest advert for Parfums Christian Dior’s Miss Dior Chérie fragrance. The ad, scheduled to bow worldwide early next year, stars Byelorussian model Maryna Linchuk. “It’s about a young woman in Paris,â€
New Sofia’s Miss Dior Cherie ad (very poor quality though, it’s just the brandnew link, more to come in better quality) :

Very, French-looking. Which to Americans means “artsy and cool” by default since most of us are dense.
I like when you think so of French ;D
Yes, because every girl in France wears a pink coat and a stupid hat, and drives around on a bike carrying a perfume bigger than her head.
… besides, I’m gonna take this one today :

Miss Dior Chérie Commercial NEWEST - YouTube
The miss dior ad with a watchable framerate. But the quality is still very bad.
I don’t like it that much, mainly because I just HATE the song!!
I love Sofia though
Yeah, it’s more watchable, too bad it’s a screener though.

I know, I am a leech. But any news on the subject “wonderful oracle of coppola sweetness” Lili?
For now, not much news, but you can see a proper version of her ad for Dior :

No news about her new script.
Here’s a funny story for geeks like us :
From interview with Courtney Love from Elle magazine:
<LINK_TEXT text=“http://www.thefirstpost.co.uk/people,18 … idge,67132”>http://www.thefirstpost.co.uk/people,1805,courtney-love-explains-affair-with-alan-partridge,67132</LINK_TEXT>
In the interview, Love, who claims she has finally beaten her dependency on crack cocaine and alcohol, reveals how she has sought to atone for her former wild girl past. “Let me tell you a story,” she says. "On Sofia Coppola’s 16th birthday, way back in 1987, I stole a lip gloss from her Sistine Chapel of a bedroom.
“Years later, I left a Chanel lip gloss in the reception of the Mercer Hotel for her. You know why? I believe that you’ve got to fix your karma.” All’s well that ends well.
how the heck did she know Sofia Coppola well enough back in 87 to get into her bedroom
