A live-action movie version of Avatar: The Last Airbender is at hand. Director is M. Night Shyamalan. At first i was happy over this film, but now something has gone terrible wrong. What? Take a look at the cast:
Aang will be played by Texas Karate champion, Noah Ringer, who got the part in an open audition.
Katara is going to be played by actress Nicola Peltz.
Sokka will be played by Twilight actor Jackson Rathbone.
Zuko will be played by Slumdog Millionaire actor, Dev Patel.
Suki will be played by actress Jessica Jade Andres.
Zhao will be played by actor Aasif Mandvi.
Iroh will be played by actor Shaun Toub.
Ozai will be played by actor Cliff Curtis.
Whats wrong with that? The heros are white and the villans are colored. And thats not all. The characters Aang(12) and Katara(14) has love-realationship. Noah Ringer is 12, but Nicola Peltz is like 20. Creepy…
Actor Jackson Rathbone is 22 and his character is 15. Ok, that has happened before many times but come on!
If one actor is in the right age, then all actors should be so. Otherwise everything get’s just weird.
I hope i will be happely suprised…
Hold up, Aang is gonna be played by a white kid? I have high hopes for this movie but shouldn’t the little asian kid from the cartoon be a little asian kid for the live action movie?
I’m not as worried about the age differences so much though, I’m sure they’re not gonna let shit get weird on screen. I’m more worried about whether M. Night will be able to pull it off in a big bad way. I’ve always been a fan (one of the few who thought his last couple of movies weren’t that bad, I actually enjoyed them) and it’d be nice for the world at large to start appreciating him again.

If you ask me this is how the color of the actors should be:
Aang-Asian
Katara-White
Sokka-White
Zuko-Asian
Iroh-Asian
Zhao-Asian
Ozai-Asian
Suki-Don’t care
The fire people should have british-accent, becouse i belive there is some conection to the british-people taking over “inferior” nations.
Why Katara and Sokka white?

Mayby i am the only one to notice this, but exept the water tribes there are no other blue eyed people. Since they live around the pools, they should be pale becouse of the lack of sun-light during winter and the sun light not being so strong there.
Interesting logic. They always came off as more Indians than whites though. It’d be a cooler thing if their eyes were blue and they were Indian toned.

Yeah, but that would be creepy. It would appear like they were vampires.
Not if they didn’t exaggerate the color and did a natural blue.
Was the kid from Slumdog Millionaire cast before or after that movie came out? Don’t really like him as Zuko. He’d have to act his ass off to convince anybody he’s a villain.
Biggest worry: That the costumes, sets, and effects come off like Dunes did, not quit right. I kind of dig that movie but not because it’s any good. Really anxious to see the first pics of the cast in full Avatar garb.
In this thread are the only two people who care about a live-action Avatar film.

Guessing your not too big a fan of either.

Actually, i am not worried about the costumes. I think the real problem is making every season with 20 episode 20 minutes long into a regular movie. I hope they allow it to be 160 minutes.
But that Slumdog Kid… Bad choise. It was probably a last minute choise, becouse he is famous. They should have chosen a guy like the one who played that jap-kid in X-men. He looked evil. But he is to old…
I hope this will not be the Dune of our lifetime.
Here is a link to two dudes who would work as Zuko and Azula:

I hadn’t thought about the time yet. This is probably going to be aimed at the younger fans of the show and I don’t know how the studio would feel about releasing a three hour epic, because it is an epic. I hope they would. Maybe with M. night at the helm they might let it pass, maybe. Regardless of what you may feel about him, he is an established director.

I like Signs, but thats the only of his movies that i have watched.
Really? Sixth Sense would be the obvious one to watch, but I think Unbreakable is the superior movie. Try and watch 'em all before you watch The Last Airbender.

M. Night was good until he started to take himself too seriously and then his work went downhill. He’s a bit too cocky.
I have never seen Avatar, but the thought of a Japanese-style animation made by westerners turns me right off. I love anime and I love Scooby-doo and Wacky Races and all that, but combining Western animators with Japanese influences doesn’t work for me.
But you haven’t seen the show right? Before i saw it I just tuned it out as another Nickelodeon cartoon. Then one day I was flipping through channels and an episode was starting and I thought I’d watch just the first five minutes to find out what it was about and ended up really digging it.
Give it a shot, huh?
And as far as M. Night you either like him or you don’t. I happen to like him. Probably because I saw his flicks long after he was a media target and just got to see his flicks for his flicks and not for what people were saying about him.
As one of the two (maybe three) people on this board who give a shit about this movie, I was glued to the television and suffered through half of ET to watch the new footage from the flick. It was awesome! The fleet of fire nation ships, the airbending, the Kung-Fu style thing going on with Ang in the circle of candles! I feel so childish and geeky right now, it looks so damn cool.
It doesn’t hurt that M. Night’s name is above the title either. I love M. Night even more than Avatar and it’s a big deal to me. Excitement!

The official TEASER!
I’ve never seen the show before and kind of never heard about it besides seeing little things here and there. But after watching the trailer, it had me on the edge of my seat wanting to see the result of all those f’n ships.
I wish it would be rated R, because that scene has blood and guts written all over it if it was R. lol.
