It is…really is.
Have you noticed how every single character has certain breaks and pauses in their dialogue! It makes it sound so real. They’re like Qt’s match, but hey two brains against one, it ain’t fair. It just comes to show you that it takes two really smart brains to match QT’s!!! Scary…

Well, although QT has some brilliant (and poetic) dialogue, I don’t think you can really compare the two. The Coens’ have been at it since 1984 - 12 films since then, and they have consistently written great dialogue. And it just seems to get better. Furthermore, although their dialogue shares a lot of the same elements (e.g. repetition and interuption), it’s so very different. Their dialogue is like a microcosm of their films actually in that respect. All share similar elements (trademarks), yet are somehow vastly different from each other.
With QT’s dialogue, it all follows very much the same pattern. It’s like coming from the same direction. It’s about coolness and word play (think Dylan), and has a lot of poetic characteristics. It relies heavily on humour and pop culture. The Coens’ dialogue is far more varied, yet seems much less coherent and with the exception of The Ladykillers maybe, doesn’t dwell much on word play.
Also, those breaks and pauses are all purposeful. The Coens are perfectionists this way. A few exceptions aside, they really do want their actors to say the dialoge verbatim. I suppose in this way they share a similarity to QT.
By the way, QT is a huge Coen brothers fan, and cites Blood Simple as one of his all time favourite films. The Coens’ have been an influence on QT may not as much as other filmammakers, but the influence is still there. Take the anime sequence in Kill Bill. The scene where the two dudes come waltzing in to the room only to find O-Ren under the bed as she shoots their legs. A very strong reference to a similar scene (done in real time) in Miller’s Crossing.
Yeah I noticed that in Vol. I, Miller’s Crossing - I saw that a looong time ago, but I still remember that scene. Have you also noticed the trailer action sequence in Raising Arizona, it resembles the battle sequence in Budd’s trailer with Elle and Bea.

I can’t remember it. Have only seen Raising Arizona once, and that was on some shitty TV with shitty sound. It’s one of two Coen brothers films I don’t own on DVD.
It’s a double-feature DVD that I bought. It has Fargo and Raising Arizona. Fairly cheap, like 10 bucks…
The Big Lebowski is my favorite Coen Bros. film
Still the greatest Coen Bros movie EVER!

Remeber what Dude said: “That’s your opinion maaan!”.
I think that “Fargo” is as good as “Big Lebowski” but i still have a lot of Cohen bros. movies to watch. Did anyone noticed that Dude Lebowski is a bowling fun but… I’ve never saw him in the action
I’ve never seen The Big Lebowski (no, seriously) but I recorded it last night so I’m finally gonna see it tonight - so psyched! Everyone I know has seen it and keep quoting the most random lines and I just kind of nod along and laugh. But not anymore! As of tomorrow I’m gonna be a Big-Lebowski-Quotin’-mothafucker!

Duude! You’ll see why the word “Dude” is in my daily dialog! I LOVE this film!
"You see what happens when you fuck a stranger in the ass!"
I saw an episode of Gonzo on MTV2 where they interviewed Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age who had watched The Big Lebowski on the plane over to the uk. However it was the censored version so they had changed it to “You see what happens when you find a stranger in the alps”. Doesn’t quite have the same effect.

I love that dream sequence. Reminds me of Anchorman’s pleasuretown.
This film holds a special place in my movie list. Its just so fucking cool
Many people have Darth Vader or Indiana Jones as their movie hero. I have the Dude.
The Dude is clearly showing us the cool way of living, the ordinary way, it’s not a cinematic idealized way of living unlike most of the movie heros we have.

I’ve never understood why anybody would idolise Darth Vader. But people do.
Not to take this thread off-topic, I was listening to CCR in my car today, while I smoked.
