I finally started watching Season 3 for the first time. It still has to pick up after the first 3 episodes, but the whole fiasco with Cheese and his dead dog made me laugh hard. ;D

Richard Price wrote that entire debacle beautifully, and I especially loved how something as simple as a dog being put down could start a mini-gang war.
So how many people here are caught up? Only one episode left and a lot has gone down is the past few. I wanna comment on what’s going down right now but it seems as though most people on this forum are watching it on DVD and I don’t wanna spoil anything.

It’s ok mate, just put a SPOILER warning and we should be fine.
The more things change the more they stay the same. The game is the game!

That about sums up the entire point of the finale, my friend. I just still can’t entirely come to grips w/ the fact that the greatest television series ever is now over.
Finished watching Season 3 yesterday. Loved it, no question. But…
SPOILER
Why the fuck did they kill off my buddy Stringer?? Why, cruel world? Why?? He’s always been my favorite character alongside McNulty. I don’t think Season 4 will be the same without him. :’( :’(
I have to say, this is why I love The Wire. Never before have I seen a show that’s both had the balls to kill off some of its most beloved characters, when necessary for the plot, but to also do it in a way that feels fitting, justified, and that impacts the audience (more specifically, you the viewer) in such a real way like The Wire has been able to do. Between Wallace, D’angelo, Sobotka, Stringer, and a few others that I won’t post for consideration of season 4 & 5 spoilers. Each time it was like I had just heard from someone that a good friend had died, or read in the newspaper that one of my favorite actors, and/or auteurs had passed away. In fact, I would alomst tell myself that I would no longer watch the show after each of these deaths, but the overall quality of the series is just on such a high level that I would always retain my rationality.
