Damn. I wish I had on demand where I live.
I just finished watching Season 1 today, absolutely terrific stuff. QT should have directed an episode of this instead of CSI. These characters are so right up his alley.

I kept thinking the same thing, especially during season 2. In fact, episode 10 of season 2, or episode 23 ‘Storm Warnings’ as I like to refer to it, felt like it would have been the perfect episode for him to direct. The main reason I say that is because this was around the same time he said he wanted to direct an episode for a TV. series, and the whole time I was thinking “Wire, Sopranos, Wire, Sopranos.” I mean, CSI is okay if you’re looking for cheap entertainment, but The Wire and The Sopranos are most definitely the two best series of the past twenty years at least, and IMO in television history.

Great news man. Whadaya think of the series at this point?
I enjoyed Season 2 as much as Season 1. Though I didn’t like some of the new characters that much. Ziggy got on my nerves, and the Greek wasn’t as interesting a villain as Avon Barksdale was.
I am an official fan of McNulty though. Loved the scene when he crases his car (twice!) and when he infiltrates into that brothel dressed as an English man. “Can I have more than one?” Hilarious. ;D

I somewhat agree w/ you on your character observations. The Greek wasn’t nearly as dynamic an antagonist as Avon nor, I felt, was Sergei much of a compensation for the lack of season 1 hitters like Roland ‘Wee-Bey’ Brice, but I thought Ziggy was an obviously deeply flawed character but highly integral to some of the emotional impact felt by the end of the season. Although, of course not as much as either Frank or Nick’s ultimate fates. Not to worry though, Avon is most definitely back in full affect by the peak of season 3, and yes McNulty is absolutely one of the greatest characters in the Wire’s repetoir of great characters.

I never thought about it until just now but this thread really sums up the show’s life pretty well.
On a forum of hundreds it’s just the three of us that watch it.
P.S. You wouldn’t happen to know who sings season three’s theme would ya? I did a search
on Limewire but all I could find were the Tom Waits and the Five Blind Boys versions. Well, and
a Rolling Stones song with the same name but not a cover.

Yes my friend. It’s the incomparable Neville Brothers. There isn’t an available copy for public consumption just yet, either MP3 or CD, but there is a comprehensive two disc soundtrack coming out on January 8th, 2008. It will feature all five versions of the theme song, the ending montage songs, other memorable, but digetic, selections from the series, and various bits of dialogue from popular and/or powerful scenes.
P.S.-Favorite Characters:
1.Vondas
2.Omar
3.Prop Joe
4.Freamon
5.McNulty
P.P.S.- aliemrac06 also watches the show, but thats still just four members out of a forum of hundreds. As to why he hasn’t participated in this thread, though? I haven’t a clue.
‘And the police wouldn’t have a fuckin’ clue either.’-Proposition Joe Stewart

Im just getting turned on to this one. It doesnt seem to get much attention but the production and scripts are top notch
Glad to hear that Kingpin. Well that makes it five then. ;D
Just finished watching season four again. Gonna watch the season 5 premier tonight
I think. Just read that this season is only gonna be ten episodes which kinda sucks.
Supposedly 10 episodes was all that Simon, Burns, & Co. needed to finish the story they wanted to tell. I just hope that is the truth, and that HBO weren’t just being stingy like with Rome. I which case the ending might be a bit rushed and somewhat unsatisfactory, but we’ll just have. Damn I wish I could see the season 5 premiere now. I’ve been jonesin’ bad for the past two weeks now.
I just got finished watching episodes 1-4 back to back, and I must say this is w/out a doubt the most dark, humourous, and entertaining season yet. I was a bit worried about the newsroom during the first two episodes, but they’ve incorporated and woven it nicely into the rest of the story. Overall, great season thus far, a few weaknesses and cut corners by comparison to the previous four seasons, and some incredibly suprising moments as well, but I’ll reserve judgement until the series finale.
I’ve watched up to the end of episode 8 last night. Shit gets crazy but I won’t spoil it. This season is very dark and to the point. I think it will get the respected ending that it deserves (unlike The Sopranos…) but it will piss off some viewes at the same time. The game’s the game though.
I’m shocked that The Wire doesn’t have more postings on this forum…
My favorite characters to watch**
- Avon
- Herc
- Bunk/McNulty **Bunk has never been funnier than in Season 5
- Omar
- Vondas
