Sorry, I know its only a link to a message board, but I can’t find any direct links to a source. Does anyone know if this is founded or just another bs rumor shooting around the net…because this really sounds like a project QT would endorse and run with.
he should just let them put some reservoir dogs in their next game and write some dialogue for them

That being said, the GTA games at least had dialogue and whatnot, it might be cool to see how Qt would pull it off if he made it.
Well, you also have to take into account that if QT made a GTA film, he would be the first competent director/writer to make a game to movie translation. I predict that if he did do it, it would be like this really kick ass movie about stealing cars and mafia shit with maybe only the characters and general plot being the same.
Two reasons why video game movies suck:
- Hollywood never gives good games the treatment they deserve and tend to hand them off to hacks and new comers to the industry…this is also true of many comic book movies.
- Because most video game to movie adapters are hacks, they end up trying to adhere to the storyline and characters of the game rather than trying to forge anything new or unique that actually adds to the franchise. And remember, most of these stories are originally developed by JAPANESE GAME DEVELOPERS not professional writers, and thus end up sucking without gameplay and 3d graphics to back them up.
In any case, we know QT is definitely not a hack, and we also know that QT has the creativity and the balls to take only the premise and run with it, filling in any gaps with his own wit and dialogue.
In any case, I don’t think this would really go through, even if I had well defined link. I think the slasher flick or the airplane disaster mentioned in previous interviews are far more likely than this to get QT’s attention. But who knows? If another GTA game or game by the creators of GTA comes out around the end of filming for IB, when QT will be particularly impressionable to new projects, he just might go forward with a script.
I’m starting to get tired of these topics: “do you think Tarantino will make the newest Bond film?” “Will he ever make a Zombie flick?” "Tarantino likes to watch porno, think he’ll ever make one himself?"
My point it, Tarantino is a lazy stoner who pops out 3 movies a decade. After Volume 2 and Inglorious Bastards, God knows how many years that will be. And I seriously doubt QT will ever adapt something like a Video Game or a Bond film. Sure Tarantino rips off other films and used an Elmore Leonard book as inspiration for Jackie Brown, but his ego is way too big for him to make a movie based on Grand Theft Auto.
Its not an issue of ego or him not doing it. Albeit, he IS lazy stoner who only pops out three movies a decade, that doesn’t mean that this idea won’t be on his future things-to-do list. He SAID he would do it if allowed, and seeing how the GTA games are are practically a nod to him and Scorsese…I don’t see how he would have any problems getting the license to the franchise which he has already expressed interest and which, itself, has proven to be influenced by him.

I disagree with what Buono said, but he does make a point. It’ll be 2008 or some shit before QT starts working on another movie, and I’m thinking his nifty GTA idea will dissipate. Shit, he prolly already forgot about it.

QT at least has a Nintendo or he never would have made that comment about (paraphrasing here) “if I wanted that cgi bullshit at the movies, I would stick my dick in my Nintendo.” He’s referenced video games before, I don’t see why he wouldn’t have a playstation.

Ok,Streetfighter,Mario,Tomb Raider etc…sucked…but how can GTA suck???The life of a young crook making his way up in a crimefamily…I think it would work.And I hope QT will make a flick of this.
Video games into films always goes bad. I used to love Resident evil, it was my favourite video game, but then came the film…i nearly cried.
John Woo originally wanted to make Teenage Mutant Ninja Turltes 4. That would’ve been a wet dream come true.
