this may have been asked but anyone know when sukiyaki western django will be released on dvd?
You really didn’t see the old topic, which was at the top of the list before you started this new one?
To answer your question; a month ago.
Merging…
Got to see Sukiyaki on 35mm, twice (wasn’t planned). Surpisingly I still didn’t get bored and although I had reserved the later screening for sleeping (it was at 4:15 am) I still enjoyed the film (and with no edge enhancement, yeee). The print was, however, the international version. Differences that I noticed include (minor spoilers):
- Boss Kiyomori performing Shakespeare is missing
- The sheriff having hard time to making a decision has been removed (this is before he goes totally nuts)
- The sex scene ends with the woman saying â€

Can someone please check if I entered the information on this page correctly and supply the additional missing information on languages, formats, subtitles and extras of the standard edition? thanks
Both
Released by Geneon
Image: 2.35:1 Anamorphic NTSC (progressive)
Sound: Dolby Digital 2.0 (Japanese, English), Dolby Digital 5.1 (Japanese, English), DTS (English)
Subtitles: Japanese (optional)
I believe the Standard Edition is one disc, not two discs
you believe? hm… i took that from dvdcompare.net…
are you sure about the formats stuff at least?
Picture and audio I am positive. I have the limited edition.
To be more exact about the audio, the DTS track is 6.1.
I can’t find any source other than dvdcompare (which even has the picture and audio totally wrong) of a two disc edition existing. All retailers state commentary and trailers as extras for the standard edition. Would also be the first I hear about a 2 disc release being sold for that price.
k thanks, I changed those bits…

cool
On yesterday’s Attack of the Show on G4 they had the trailer for Sukiyaki Western Django. It had a quote from Tarantino at the beginning stating that Miike is one of the best directors living today. Also, it had three shots of Tarantino in the trailer. First, Tarantino’s character was narrating the story of rival gangs, the red and the white. Second, it had Tarantino shooting his gun standing over a body on the ground. Third, Tarantino was dressed as an old man sitting in a rocking chair chair telling a story. Attack of the Show plays again at noon eastern time if want to catch it. I recommend you do.
we’re adding Region 1 and other DVDs now, get your credit cards out fellas

I’ll order the R1 DVD just before it’s released. And yeah, I’ll use this link. I don’t trust pre-ordering that far in advance, I’ve gotten burned by doing that before.
Sebby, you should have a topic for placing links to amazon for any and all random shit I wanna buy from there, then I could help you out when I order stuff.
i thought we had such a link. but using any link and ordering something else once you clicked on it should work also… but you can always shoot me a PM
K. I searched it to no avail, but I didn’t know that I could just take any amazon.com link from here and it would count towards you. I’ll let you know though.
yeah the way it works is that i get higher commission on direct referrals, but i still get commission on stuff i didnt really point you towards, as long as it was through the link, and it’s the same session
Right. I need to buy some things with my upcoming birthday money.
3. Sukiyaki Western Django - OK, it came out almost a year ago in Japan and is out on limited release here on August 29th. Ok, it also your only opportunity to see Quentin Tarantino onscreen so far this year - which may or may not wet your whistle. But if it does and if you are a fan of Westerns, this tongue-planted-so-firmly-in-cheek spaghetti western meets samurai movie, in subtitled Japanese-accented English will leave fans of the mashed-up genre impressed. It will also remind the rest of us how movies can sometimes just be fun. The Tarantino cameo is making me wonder, after Tom Cruise’s great turn in Tropic Thunder, if there should be a special Oscar just for these brief but often show stopping appearances. Just sayin
“…and Tarantino’s campy, barely watchable performance…”
:’(
i’ve also read completely opposite takes on his cameo… so again… screw the critics
