Takashi Miike films

what’s the deal with this movie?

some people have told me it was horrible, pointless violence and is not worth seeing, while some people have told me it was an amazing movie.

if you have seen it, voice your opinions.

also, has any one seen these two Kill Bill inspiring movies:

The Bride Wore Black

Lady Snowblood

if so, how are they?

Well who ever said Ichi the Killer is horrible and pointless should really be shot down. Ichi The Killer is an amazing film, everything about it is pure gold. It’s really the acting and characters is what makes this so damn good. Kakihara is one of the best bad guys ever to be in a movie of this calibur, he is funny, psychotic and is always calm and cool. Ichi himself is a bit irratating at first but then you get why he’s come to be such a demented person. You have to be able to stomach some extreme violence, though some of the violence and gore is what makes it so special. This movie can be compared to something David Lynch would do, but this movie is something you can actually UNDERSTAND. The ending makes you think, it’s really like a puzzle at the end. There are some excellant twists in this too. This movie ages like wine, I swear to god it does. Every time I watch it, I see something new. There is really NOTHING wrong with Ichi The Killer.

Go buy the uncut version of Ichi. 8)

Except the name.

Why didn’t they just call it “Ichi” or “Killer By Name”.

Those I are kinda stupid but just a thought.

PULP DOG

I believe the Japanese title translates to something like Number 1 Killer, or Killer 1. Ichi the Killer doesn’t really bother me as a title, it’s pretty to the point.

Anyway, Ichi is brilliant, go see it. There are so many people out there who cry and moan about the violence, but I just don’t get it. The violence doesn’t effect me, it’s almost comical and certainly highly stylized. Sure it’s gory, but I don’t think it takes a iron stomach to sit through. It’s amazing how many reviews you’ll find out there that comment on nothing but the gore factor, so many knee-jerk reactions to the film that it can get you sick.

Ahh, but what can you do. I’m at the point that if a film offends me in some way, it usually gets my respect. Ichi didn’t offend me, but it’s an incredible piece of filmmaking. Some folks just don’t seem to be up to that kind of cinema I guess.

Haven’t seen those other two flicks just yet though, sorry.

I loved the violence in this film. It’s not sugar coated at all.

Not even alittle. I especially like the torturing the actress.

No more nipples for her.

PULP DOG

You guys convinced me (BTW i was kidding about the name) I’m gonna break into starkey’s room and steal it. Don’t tell him, he’s not at that house right now. I’ll give you my review after.

Ichi was a fantastic movie. It was the kind of film that changed my perspective on what a movie is. The cinematography was great, and was a perfect reflection of the characters. I bought this not knowing what the hell I was getitng into, but once I saw it, I was happy I bought it. I’ve only seen 3 of Takashi Miike’s movies, but would say he is easily one of my favorit directors.  EVERYONE SHOULD SEE THIS. Check out Audition also, it plays with your head like nothing other.

I SERIOUSLY need to see this movie. Nobody around here carries though… :’(

I did what i said. I went to Starkey’s house and took it. Well, he was there, so he kind of handed it to me. Anyway, i couldn’t get past the part where they’re sticking needles through the guys chin while he’s hanging by hooks going through his back. I thought i was gonna barf. I might finish it later, but that was just sick. SIQ.

I just recently started getting into Miikes films. A friend of mine who owns a video store has gotten a bunch of bootleg copies of Miikes earlier films and he sent me one to check out called Violent Fire (Deadly Outlaw Rekka). All I can say is: HOLY SHIT!! This movie kicks so much ass!! I wasnt really sure if Id like Miikes stuff, but now I can say that he might be one of my new favorite directors.

Violent Fire is a super violent yakuza action flick starring Riki Takuechi as Kunisada and it also has Sonny Chiba!! It has loads of violence, but what surprised me is that it had alot of humor and warmth in it as well. Two thumbs up from me.

Im gonna be getting Ichi The Killer and Fudoh pretty soon. I cant wait to see those!

I lost out on a bid on ebay for this movie. I really wanna see it, how violent is it Toothpick? There is really NO reviews ANYWHERE on the net for it and what you just said was the closest shit I’ve heard to a review for it. I wanna see that one sooooooooooooooooo badly it’s not funny.

Im not sure how to compare it because its the only Miike film Ive seen so far. I figured Id start with earlier films then work my way up to his newer films. The yakuza guys basically fuck, take baths and kill people in violent ways. You’ll love it if your into heavily bloody gonzo yakuza flicks.

I’m gonna see if I can get some other bootleg Miike DVDs. I’ll let ya know what the other ones are like.

pantsman or bullet, either one of u guys seen Visitor Q? what is it about, its got Chiaki so it cant be all that bad

Vistor Q= One of the most fucked up movies ever made. I swear to fucking god this movie FUCKS WITH YOUR HEAD. I’ll tell you one thing about it…

Its about incest…

wow i love incest!

just kidding

Indeed, Visitor Q messed with my mind as well. After I watched it, I needed a breather. Much like Audition, it hits you really hard. After I sat through it I read through all of these reviews calling it a ‘brilliant satire’ and such, but I thought it was the most disturbing film I had ever seen. It really had a huge effect on me, more so than any film I can really think of.

Now I have to see Violent Fire! I’m going to do my hardest to get my hands on that one sometime soon, that and the Miike remake of Graveyard of Honor. Miike has been my favorite director of all time for about three years now it seems. Ever since I first laid eyes on Audition. I reccomend even his worst films.

Whoa! If you felt sick watching that then your gonna love the rest!!!

He’s not joking. Did you get to the part where Ichi cuts that guy from the top down?

Also, who has seen the “Dead or Alive” series?..any favorites of the trilogy?

EDIT: BTW… This is the real name of Ichi the killer “Koroshiya 1”
