What did you think QT was going to do with a film called Death Proof about a killer who uses a car instead of an axe or knife? Did you think it was going to be some character driven drama with lots of crying and emotional scenes with old ladies? This is QT we’re talkin’ about!! Hes making a wild 75 minute slam bang Exploitation killer car film!!
CujoKing by saying that this is a “step back” for QT in terms of quality, shows that you really dont even know his work. I mean, have you seen any of his films? Do you know about his hardcore love of Grindhouse films? Do you know that every one of his films have been a mix of Grindhouse and Arthouse genres?
Whether or not this script review was genuine or not, I will go see Grindhouse. If it is the actual script, it may not even be the final shooting draft.
Yes, I admit it, I’m a “typical QT fan”, actually I’m more of a die hard QT fan. I’ve always loved his work and he hasnt dissapointed me yet. When youre a big fan of a director, youre a fan for a reason. I love the way he creates movies and I always love the subject matter he explores.
As the script reviewer said, the film isnt dialogue based, but is IS visual based and THAT is what I’m hoping for. I WANT TO SEE QT say FUCK THE DIALOGUE EVERYONE KNOWS ME FOR and see him focus on becoming an even more stylized visual storyteller.
Does anyone really believe QT cant write the most kickass pulpy dialogue anytime he wants? HE CAN!! HE DOESNT WANT TO BASE HIS CAREER SOLELY ON THAT!! WAKE UP!!!

You’re really not worth having a debate with. You see things your way and assume others see things a totally different way all together. You are also quite offensive. When you choose to treat me with a bit of respect and talk to me instead of patronising and swearing, we’ll communicate.
Oh now I’m not worth having a debate with. Uh, I cant have a debate with people over stuff they dont even know about in the first place.
Seb: I wasnt defending the reviewer of the script was I? Cujo King stated he felt QT was taking a step back etc with Death Proof after he read the script review. I was merely saying that if you ARE a QT fan, you should know already that QT has always filled his films with cool Grindhouse and Arthouse themes. This just happens to be more straight up Grindhouse.
Why do I have to explain myself about this crap? Arent we all pretty much on the same page when it comes to QTs way of making movies? If not, please let me know.
Scarface: The thing I am wondering is, why in the hell would AICN even take a chance on something this big if it wasnt the real thing? Dont they know BS from the real thing at this point in time? Its a HUGE step backwards for AICN if they start posting early script reviews that are fuckin fake.
Last night Ebert and Roeper paid homage to “The Wolf” and QT. Ebert said that there would never be another character like the wolf who was as good as the wolf.
Then, on Politically Incorrect, “George” from seinfeld said that if any sex offenders were caught in his neighborhood he would have to go “Quentin Tarantino” on him!

Not too long ago AICN reported that the movie was gonna be called “Grind”, not “Grind House”. A few days after they admitted that this rumor was false and that the film is still gonna be called Grind House. AICN is notorious for this kind of shit man.
Yeah I see your point. A title change is one thing, I just dont think they should be posting script reviews when they dont even know if its real or not.
seems like he had to pull it off his fan site just a day after. if you sign up for that forum you can read it. here’s a quote from it:
Jeff the stunt co-ordinator came up to me and we talked of all the stunt men we know, and he described how they are going to have this big zombie pick me up and hurtle me 30 feet into the side of a police car. I will have to wear a harness attached to this 70 foot overhead crane with wires and the zombie will pick me up and spin me around in the air and hurtle me toward the car. There will be an automatic stop on the crane, and my stunt double will actually take the hit. More later.
I dont like super strengh zombies… like 28 days later ect i perfer the more traditonal zombie… they got rigamortis for fuck sake… course they move slow!
OK, I just spoke with someone at AICN about whether or not this script review was in fact the real thing and its been confirmed IT IS.
So if you arent diggin the basic premise of the film, you’ll have to skip QTs part I guess. Me, I’m 100% thrilled about Death Proof. Its gonna be a blast!!!

About the “Death Proof” script review. An interesting thing about Tarantino’s best work, like Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill is that it isn’t there in the script. Pulp Fiction is much campier on the page. Tarantino has a way of pulling his material down to earth (the actors too). But Death Proof sounds like a throwback to movies like “Faster Pussycat” and “The Warriors”, which are right in line with QT’s body of work so far. I remember hearing the idea for the Travolta story in Pulp and thinking that it sounded cliche and corny. I was dead wrong, and I’m sure QT will deliver a good piece. I mean, he has to. He’s the only filmmaker I have complete faith in anymore.
Seb: The person who posted the script review informed me its real and that he knows it for sure. He works in Hollywood and the script reviewer is someone he knows. Of course this script is probably only the first or second draft and QT surely has new things he’ll be throwing in thats not even in that script.
Stanrick: This BS is the same old thing that happens every time QT has a new project. Everyone bitches its too “hokey” and too “cheesy” and too “campy” and then it comes out and kicks everyones ass. Youd think at this point everyone would just realize QT knows what hes doing.
In regards to the film itself, I think QT realized after Pulp that everyone expected everything he wrote to be just the pop culture filled-super memorable dialogue. What hes been doing is not giving people what they want in that regards on purpose. Its like hes saying “Ok, you just want that kind of stuff? Well forget it, I’m going to go do something else”. I cant speak for him, but thats what I think hes been trying to do.
Like this Death Proof film, its certainly not going to be some deeply fundamental statement, its going to be QT using the camera probably more than anything else to deliver the thrills and fun. I’m all for that. Hes having a good time, making crazy Exploitation films and trailers Then when he does Bastards it will be another huge epic QT film with all the pop culture dialogue and more realistic themes etc.
I’m a bit sad about Mickey- Flavour of the Month- Rourke apparantly playing the lead. What happened to the brilliant and very underrated John Jarratt?
While I have liked Mickey’s performance in Sin City, and that is liked, not loved, I would have loved to have seen John in the lead role. Anyone who has seen Wolf Creek will know that this man is absolutely terrifying.
I dont think Rourke is a flavor of the month to QT. Hes been a big fan of his for years (he even name dropped him in the True Romance script). I mean if QT thinks Rourke is the killer (he definitely wrote the part for him) then thats who he thinks is right for the part. John Jarratt is great like you said but QT knows what he needs.
