Let me do my best to define Overrated;
Many people would say the Beatles were overrated because they were’t that good but were so amazingly famous. Overrated is something that many people loved but you, or others, thought was crap. Overrated things don’t always have to be bad, they just might not be as good as they are brought up to be.
Let’s stay on topic, and not concintrate on how much you like or hate the beatles. We are talking about movies here.
i think a veryy overrated film is “dare devil” all my 13 year old friends loved it i HATED IT!!!
Yes!

Good point!!!
I agree with whoever said Scarface is overrated. Now understand Scarface is like my 2nd fav movie of all time right after Pulp Fiction…
Everyone at my school loves this movie…why? Not because of the beautifull cinematograpghy, not the brillant dialogue, not the dark humor, not the wonderfull acting, not the awesome cast…but because the nigger on MTV likes it, so they gotta like it.
Like Ordell said in Jackie Brown about everyone wanting a .45 JUST because the Killer had a .45.
I love Scarface to the death, I think when u love a movie u love every aspect. These kids these days like it to fit in, they don’t watch the slow parts with awesome dialogue…they skip the end and watch Tony die (good scene, but u get my point)
They don’t fucking understand theres OTHER brillant fucking crime movies BESIDES Scarface. I bet those kids would never see a great film like Jackie Brown…then if some dumb ass on MTV makes an appearence on Cribs and says how much he loves Jackie Brown, every white boy on the block is gonna be getting Jackie Brown…only to find out maybe the dumb ass on MTV was right that Jackie Brown was brillant, and NOT have a end scene to fast forward to.
I’m rambling.
But, when it comes to movies KFMF, we are better than them, and we know why it is a good movie. They like it for dumb reasons, but none the less, they still like it, and that just adds to the list of the people that like this movie
if someone that has never seen pulp fiction came to this site and decide to finnaly watch it, i think that theyd think pulp fiction is over rated. i let my boss borrow it a month ago or so, told him it was awesome and was the best movie ever, he gave it back to me a few days later and said it was allright, but not as good as i made it sound. this bothered me, after some deep sulking i realized that we all over rate things that we love. except pudding packs, you can never speak to highly of those things
I think Scarface is just kindof cool, that’s the impression I got of it a few years ago when I finally saw it. I haven’t seen it since, and one day I might and totally change my mind about it, but for now I think it’s overrated. Everyone loves it, and I can’t figure out why. The only thing I can think of (with the people I know anyway) is that they love it because of the final scene, the huge pile of coke, and hopped up gangster shooting everybody.
theres no doubt scarface is overrated and i hate to break it to you but a few years down the road when hes done a few more films that are very good and we aren’t waiting inthe winds for 7 years for a new offering everyone will realize that KILL BILL is not a great film; its entertaining and fun and beautifully expensive in some areas but 50 years from now it means nothing to noone, a non tarantino fan would not become like the members of this site if KB was his 1st taste of quentin and unfortunately may never realize how great something like pf really is. OVERRATED: robert rodriguez is the most overrated person working in HWood today! i know coffee runners who’ve got more talent than him el mariachi is good, he and tarantino become friends, he rides that popularity, makes crappy movies, latino family schlock, ten years pass__ once upon a time in mexico is without a doubt the most overrated film in history. ps all my opinion

No I disagree completely with you. Scarface is NOT overrated. Its a cult classic.  I dont think you can overrate cult classics, they will always be part of pop culture. Scarface is one of my all time favorite films as well. Its the film that really got me into movies.
I also strongly disagree with your statement on Kill Bill. Just because its not Pulp Fiction 2 doesnt mean its not a special film. I think in 50 years, kids will be cherishing QTs entire filmography, Kill Bill will be looked at as “that awesome Exploitation film QT did back in 2003”.
I think the word “overrated” is BS. You can say ANYTHING is overrated. You can say Citizen Kane is overrated, you can say Apocalypse Now is overrated etc etc. Its just pointless to me. Its all a matter of what you find special and important. You cant just label something and disregard what it means to others.
I agree with toothpick just because its ovverrated dosnt mean it isnt good
I love movies of all kinds, this generations and the few before it, but 50 years is a stretch to say many movies will last as pop culture goes. You’ve always got guys like us who’ll watch old films but few films of the 40’s and 30’s actually stayed in our modern pop culture. Wizard of Oz, Gone with the Wind, It’s a Wonderful Life, Citizen Kane, Casablanca, those movies have lasted the test of time, but I’m not sure any of QT’s will (not to criticize him as a filmmaker), I would say so far Pulp fiction might, and would like to think Kill Bill might, but unfortunatly no one knows.
I do think Star Wars, and atleast one of spielbergs will however, maybe the Godfathers, Taxi Driver, Time will tell though
Titanic, sorry but that movie doesn’t deserve 11 Academy Awards.
Agreed
I actually like the movie for what it is, I think it’s a good movie at core, but it isn’t a great movie.
I think alot of people latched on to this movie so hard, talking it up to be a masterpiece that can’t be equaled by anything out there.
The average joe went to it, apprehensive about dicaprio in the first place (great actor, but at this time he was on the cover of every teen girl magazine, that’s not gonna make guys like him at all), promised this masterpiece, and feels cheated by it. Not only that, but no one else for some reason can’t shut the fuck up about it for like a year or so.
I think the critics, and the hype of this movie will always take away from how good of a movie it is. Not a landmark film, but a good one.

EXACTAMUNDO!!! MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY!!!
And to the guy that was ragging on KILL BILL, you my friend will not be remembered in 50 years, but everything QT did will be cherished forever.
I wasn’t ragging on Kill Bill or anything Tarantino, I post on this board, that pretty much means that I love the guy.
All I was saying is noone can say for sure what will still be popular(as old movies go) in 50 years, will film geeks like us know who he was and appreciate his work? Almost Definately, but I’m not gonna speak for the rest of the population.
Well I will speak for the future generations, and I think that he will be remembered and loved, just like we like old directors like Sergio Leone, Charlie Chaplin, and John Huston, they will love QT, and you can quote me on that.
ok listen the reason upcomming directors will love QT is cos there part of our generation, our generation is a generation obsessed with watchin people die, but some one dyin doesnt work wiht out a story line and QT gives us some one dying with a story line that allows the charactor to die. The upcomming directors will all have grown up watchin tatantino.
You know what i learned today you know the really crappy singer pink she got her name from reservori dogs she was originally mr. pink but changed it to avoid trouble with copyrights or somthin’.
I think that’s tight that she named her stage name after Steve Buscemi’s character in Reservoir Dogs, but if I was her I would tell the world where she got that name, just to make the Tarantino following even bigger.
Fuck these overated shitfests
Bad boys, what the hell
cast away, fuck Tom Hanks
Chicago - fuck musicals, it was filmed in toronto too
Rocky - Taxi driver lost to this???
Moulin Rouge - …
A beautiful mind - Rip off of an indie film
Pulp fiction - Im joking here to get attention
Forrest gump - I didn’t mind it but if it didn’t steal everything at the 1994 oscars pulp fiction would have
Star wars - Didn’t mind it but people are putting this into overkill
Halloween - Boring slasher
There are more but I forget
Sorry to but in on the other guys convo also…
I liked Forrest Gump, Rocky, and Castaway, but I agree with all the rest. I think that Forrest Gump was an excellent movie, and though, I liked Pulp Fiction more, I think that regardless of what happened at the oscars, Pulp Fiction was still the film to beat. Yeah, it only won for best screenplay, but for Pulp to come and bombard the oscars with a lot of nominations, it took Hollywood by suprise, and now everyone that was involved with that film are popular, and can do basically anything they want. Quentin has had nothing but a great career so far. Sam Jackson is now a star and getting roles that he can pick for himself. John Travolta, hasn’t really done anything excellent since his role, but this movie revived his career. Uma, what can’t this bad ass bitch do, Kill Bill that is all I need to say for her. Weinstein, QT made him rich and well known, and continues to that to this day, that is why he gave QT total control on Kill Bill, and told him not to cut a thing.
Though Pulp didn’t get the trophy, they still got glitz, glamour, and recognition, and this year Kill Bill will get it all. Plus, the sweet is never as sweet without the sour. I think that it was all worth it waiting this long to see QT get an oscar. I predict that he will get at least 4 this year for screenplay, best director, best cinemaphotography, and best picture, any takers.
