For those that already own it -

is the transfer decent?

Is it 16:9 anamorphic? (Somes sites say yes, some say no)

or is there a better dvd version out there

Grindhouse Ezekiel:

There’s only this American DVD you hotlinked and the British one. Both have not the best transfers you can imagine, but for the age of the film they’re OK. I have the British DVD and in my opinion, the picture is better than the American DVD’s picture, because its more sharp and has better colors. The American one is too “red” with the colors. Looks not very good.

So I would say, get the British DVD. Its a really good one. Read my review @ GRINDHOUSE (link: signature!) in the Japanese Cult film section in Reviews!

The admin:

I think the price is far too high for a below-average DVD like this. I suggest you wait till the price drops. but still, if you want it, get it. maybe you can just sell it again ifi it’s not as good as you imagined

Diceman:

The british “Lady Snowblood” doesn’t have removable subtitles, as far as I know. They are fixed. For me this would be a reason not to buy such a DVD, because once I’ve been aquainted with the story and dialogue, I’d like to watch the movie without subtitles, in order to concentrate on cinematography, camerwork, settings, acting and stuff. The picture-quality of the british DVD, however, is a bit sharper and colours are richer and more realistic. I’d prefer the american DVD, though, because it has optional subs, I think.

For the german ones:

There will be a DVD release of Lady Snowblood by REM with removable subs.

I have stolen ;D ;D ;D and copy this post form DICEMAN, who posted this on a german QT board.

I finally bought it! YAY! I’m gonna watch it asap!

Hope you have fun with it. It’s clearly 1 of my most favorite blind-purchases ever.

I have bought the german release of Lady Snowblood and I´m more than happy. The company was able to put their hands on the japanese master and so the quality of the DVD is awesome.

I really dig the movie. The last scene in the snow was so great!

I have the region 1 release which is pretty good but that german one looks fantasic. Now I have to start studying german… no wait, I just study japanese and everything’s gonna be fine. ;D

too bad the german DVD doesnt have English subtitles, it would’ve been a hit in multiregion dvd online retailers

Netflix has Lady Snowblood.

NetFlix is something we have in America. It’s used for renting movies and shit.

is there anyone who knows hov many Lady snowblood movies there is?

There are two. Lady Snowblood: Blizzard From the Netherworld and Lady Snowblood 2: Love Song of Vengeance. I’ve only seen the first film, which is excellent. The sequel should be okay, too.

is the pictures on the first page of this topic from the first one?

Yes. Here’s more pics (from the first film) in case you are interested: http://outnow.ch/Media/Img/1973/LadySnowblood/

Lady snowblood is a great movie. It’s impossible not to see similarity to Kill Bill. After seeing it i have to buy it. And in my case that means waiting for Hung Fist to update his version

I just saw the sequel and it was a lot better than I expected. Sure, it wasn’t as memorable as the first film, and the swordplay was pretty slow compared to Zatoichi or Lone Wolf & Cub. But it was still a damn entertaining piece of cinema. I liked the cinematography and music, and the action scenes got better as the movie advanced. And Meiko Kaji is always a good thing ;D

I added poll. I rated both movies 4/5, though the first one is more like 4,5 and the sequel is 3,5. It’s very much possible that I will raise the rating for the first film when I get to see it again. I seem to like it more every time I see it.
