He probably meant that it was too long becuase she had to get to sleep. Something short would have been OK though like a 15-30 minute cartoon or something, not a 1 hour + film.
This has probably been mentioned, but I noticed yesterday in ‘Reservior Dogs’ Madsen pulls a knife out of his cowboy boot like Thurman does in Vol 2 when she’s buried alive. Same knife too.
This has probably not got anything to do with Kill Bill, but i’ll say it nevertheless…
I watched a week ago called “Se sei vivo spara” aka “Django, Kill… If You Live, Shoot!” (1967), it is a spaghetti western (not related to the more well known Django) and there is a guy called Bill in it and he gets shot and this women says “Kill Bill”, it just reminded me of this great QT film, but I don’t think it has anything to do with the name of it.
(little Shogun Assassin tidbit: It was the first NC-17(or X-rated I can’t remember) movie not given the rating because of sex in the US.)
Actually that was The Street Fighter with Sonny Chiba. And if was the X-rating
Pf reference
PF "my names Pit, and you ain’t talkin’ your way outta this shit"
KB "my names Buck, and I like to Fuck"
Maybe it’s just something he likes to do though
He has another one in Pulp Fiction:
"Hey, my name’s Paul and this shit’s between y’all"
Oh, I have a question. Where in Kill Bill is the theme for Seven Notes in Black?
I don’t think this has been mentioned here in this topic. But, the bleeping out of The Brides name is a tribute to The Man With No Name from A Fistfull of Dollars, For A Few Dollars More and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.
Here, at the GRINDHOUSE, you get the biggest reference tally of KILL BILL in net: http://members.aol.com/grindhousesite/killbill.html
REFERENCE: 1984, GEORGE ORWELL.
The appartment number of Bill’s place in Mexico is 101. This the room where the thing you fear the most resides in 1984 and, incidentally, is Neo’s flat number in The Matrix.
REFERENCE: TRUE ROMANCE
Poster for the movie written by Tarantino hangs on the wall of Budd’s trailer. (I can’t remember seeing this!)
REFERENCE: HIS GIRL FRIDAY
Bill says the line, “I’m more or less particular who my girl marries.” This line is spoken by Cary Grant in His Girl Friday, directed by Howard Hawks (one of QT’s favourite directors)
I’m being driven mad by my inability to remember where Bill’s statement in the chapel (“That’s asking a lot”) comes from. Does anyone remember?
in Bud’s Apartment there a Mr. Majestx poster on the wall which was written by Elmore Leornard
K-BILLY’s super sounds of the 70’s.
Kill Bill’s super sounds of the 70’s
Been mentioned before most probably, but im a lazy ass fuck right now
There’s a Lucio Fulci Zombie reference shot when Budd holds the mace to Kiddo’s eye.
My first post so i’ll make it snappy
SCARFACE: In the House of Blue Leaves scene when one of The Crazy 88’s Falls into the water just under the balcony and The water turns blood red. This reminded me a lot of the finale of scarface.
Also, In the Pai Mei chapter during the brides training theres a slanted shot out of a barred window when the bride punches the wall. These types of shots were a staple of Hitchcock. it could even be an homage to De palma doing an homage to Hitchcock! (The entire Dressed to Kill Movie)

As one of QT’s favourite directors is De Palma, this was most probably a reference to that scene!
The scene pryor to the Esteban Vihaio scene with the palm trees is very much like that famous scene in Apocalypse Now. Also, right after that scene, when we see The Bride in her car, I saw an ox (or was it a cow) which could also go with the theme of Apocalypse Now.
Tarantino said that The Bride going to meet Esteban whilst on her journey, would fit into Apocalypse Now quite well, with the whole notion of Martin Sheen meeting various people on his journey, so I this particular scene IS most likely a reference to Apocalypse Now!
Watching the Jet Li flick “The Legend” a couple of weeks back (Damn Fine Movie by the Way!) I noticed how much of Kill Bills action scenes are similar. The House Of Blue Leaves features numerous references
- Fighting while on someones shoulders - Just like Uma Destoying one of the 88’s
- Cutting Through partitions to get to enemies - Towards the end of the chapter when the bride reachers the room O Ren was in earlier. The 88’s cut through the doors.
- Bending a Cane to snap it off someones head - similar to what the bride does to Johnny Mo
There are other little refrences Kill Bill has to “the legend” mostly taking place during the House Of Blue Leaves Scene. These may be unintentional but i doubt it!
some movie titles from an older topic:
They Call Me One Eye aka Thriller (1974)
Rolling Thunder (1977)
The Beyond (1981)
Star Trek 2 : Wrath of Khan (1982)
Fists of Fury aka Chinese Connection (1971)
Day of Anger (1969)
I dont know if this has been mentioned before (im not going to sift through 6 pages) but i found the direct Truck Turner reference used with the music, as i own the DVD (an awesome movie btw).
In the beginning of TruckTurner it automatically starts up with the classic theme (featured in Kill Bill Vol 1) then as it goes to a shot of Truck’s car the music just cuts off suddenly - exactly like when the Bride is in the hospital car park and when there is a inside shot of the Pussy Wagon.
It’s an exact reference, and pretty cool too btw

Here’s one. Lines from Miike’s Rainy Dog:
“Grow up. Then come and kill me. I’ll be here waiting for you.”
