Japanese in Kill Bill

Some Japanese in Kill Bill is not subtitled (for example the joke one of the Crazy 88 tells during the House of Blue Leaves sequence) Can someone who speaks Japanese please translate that and the other parts without subtitles.

How was the Japanese of the actors what were non-native speakers ? Julie Dreyfus who speaks perfect Japanese said that Umas Japanese was good and Lucys was excellent. But maybe Julie just wanted to be nice because I have read that Umas Japanese was pretty bad. Can someone clarify that ?

Are there any translation errors in the english subtitles ?

By the way I love how O-Ren said  " Charlie Brown" with a Japanese accent !

Why don’t you ask Tomohiro Machiyama.

His contact email’s on that page.

He was the guy that saw the Japanese version and reported on it here:

As well, he interviewed Tarantino here:

i speak japanese and lucy and uma’s japanese were both equally bad. but hey, they are american and dont speak japanese so no big deal. o-ren however was supposed to be able to speak japanese because she was half and grew up in japan so i think lucy comes off worse.

i dont exactly remember what the crazy 88 guy said but it was about an old woman and his wiener.

How do you know japanease ODing Bitch.

Actually, O-ren is not supposed to be able to speak japanese. She’s half chinese, half japanese american, remember? That’s why she gets so pissed of at that guy who brought up her heritage. She also speaks through a translator when they have the meeting.

good point

i just assumed she was able to speak japanese because she was wearing a japanese school uniform in the anime when she killed the man who killed her parents. so i figured she went to school in japan and they speak japanese at school there.

so yeh good point, o-ren has a translator, she doesnt speak japanese then. so she doesnt come off worse, they were both equally bad.

Why is their japanese so bad ? I thought the actors took so many language lessons to get it right or at least do ok …

uma and lucy did a good job learning the lines but thats not gonna make them sound good when they say it. they can practice all they want but it takes more than a couple lines in a movie to make it sound like they can speak the language. i didnt expect lucy n umas japanese to be great and i dont think it matters in the film anyway.

I can say from knowing french, Julie Dreyfus probably speaks french really, but she says her line like she is on a film-set (I guess in China) far away from a french country and far away from other french-speaking people… She says the line like the whole crew doesn’t understand what she is saying…

those two very short sound-clips are only for our research in the film-making techniques in Kill Bill, I will remove those files from my server as soon as our study is complete.

there is all this talking/laughing where i guess the beginning of the story is told…then the crazy 88 guy continues the story…

“so then while this old man is waiting, theres this old ladys face and hes like why is it right in front my face and then his dick gets hard.”

…chatter/laughter continues…

this is my interpretation not a word-for-word break out the dictionary type translation.

I think it is really interesting Julie Dreyfuss and O-Ren both are laughing at that kind of joke… and that GoGo doesn’t think it’s funny.

Does anybody know if this exists?

What I’m searching is a complete transcript off all dialogue or monologue spoken in other languages than English.

Yeah, I would like to know what was the joke that C88 guy was telling (just before O-Ren sent Gogo out of the private room to check on the suspicious sound). I expect it’s something to do with ED.

Someone said that little speech is the Japanese version of the “E Lois” joke from Reservoir Dogs. But thats just a little rumor.
