Inglourious Basterds Teaser Trailer Discussion

I thought the same but I’ve becoming suck a freak cause now everytime I see a shot in the woods, with lots of leaves and green ton, I DO think of Miller’s Crossing but not all the directors are influenced by this movie, ahah.

Haha, you silly billy!! :stuck_out_tongue:

"They will find the evidence of our cruelty, in the disemboweled, dismembered, and disfigured bodies of their brothers we leave behind us. And the German will not be able to help themselves from imagining the cruelty their brothers endured at our hands, and our boot heals, and the edge of our knives. And the Germans, will be sickened by us. And the Germans, will talk about us. And the Germans, will fear us. And when the Germans close their eyes at night, and their subconscious tortures them for the evil they’ve done, it will be with thoughts of us, that it tortures them with."

That segment from Raine’s monologue is reminiscent to that of The Brides in Kill Bill -

“I want him to witness the extent of my mercy by witnessing your deformed body. I want you to tell him all the information you just told me. I want him to know what I know. I want him to know I want him to know. And I want them all to know they’ll all soon be as dead as O-Ren.”

QT’s poetic nature is clearly present here, he is one hell of a writer. I didn’t want to read Raine’s full monologue, but after watching the teser, I gave in and I gotta say it is fucking brilliant. Also, I know people were bitching about Pitt’s delivery, but you can’t still doubt him after having heard an extended version of his speach. He completely nails it, and like Sam Jackson, he seems to understand that melodic quality QT has in his writing.

In the trailer, skip to the scene with Til Schweiger 52 seconds in, there is a dude in the background no doubt doing something very violent. What do you think it is, scalping?

After seeing the trailer, I’m finally starting to “buy” Pitt as Aldo Raines. I wasn’t sure initially if his casting Pitt as Aldo was really a good idea given his limited acting ability but after seeing the monologue I’m convinced Tarantino has gotten a good performance from Pitt. A feat few directors have accomplished. QT is an actor’s director…

Brad Pitt is one of the few consistently good actors working in mainstream hollywood. Especially in the last few years. not to mention that he’s got a great eye for projects, there’s a reason Scorsese, Tarantino and Mahlik all wanted to work with him.

Pitt has some good roles… Fight Club 12 Monkeys but he has also had some real stinkers like the Devil’s Own Seven Years in Tibet, Joe Black the Mexican Troy Scorsese may want to work with Pitt but he is working with DiCaprio and often because he’s a better actor and Pitt wasn’t even Malick’s first choice If Heath hadn’t gone and overdosed Pitt probably would never have been in the Tree of Life

Pitt is in movies because he looks like a living god not because he can act like one

He’s a very talented actor and it’s that “he looks so good” mentality that prevents people from seeing him for what he is. Of all the contemporary actors working right now, I think he has one of the best collection of performances, I mean just off the top of my head;

True Romance;

Kalifornia;

Legends of the fall;

A river runs through it;

Sleepers;

12 Monkeys;

Se7en;

Fight Club;

Snatch;

Babel;

The Assassination of Jesse James;

Benjamin Button;

Not many actors have a resume with that kind of variation. He’s criminally underrated because of how he looks, which sucks. Now at least he’s getting his due.

Brad Pitt in Fight Club= BAD ASS

Brad Pitt In Inglourious Basterds= ULTIMATE NAZI KILLING BAD ASS

I just saw the full trailer, and I must say…i am as giddy as a school girl on pizza day.

I thought that kind of thinking went out ages. What does Pitt have to do to prevent backward thinking like this? He is one of the greatest actors working today, hands down. His turn as Tyler Durden in Fight Club was absolutely fucking immense. Also, one of my favourite movies of the past 5 years - The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford - stands as such largely due to Pitt’s amazing performance. Maybe he has given some not-so-good performances, who hasn’t? I’ve seen him in 16 films, I’ve only been disappointed by The Devil’s Own.

Give me a break backward thinking

::slight_smile:

I’m not looking down on him and saying he can’t act well because he’s good looking. You misreading what I’m writing. I’m saying that his career is due in large part to the way he looks not his acting ability that’s all.

Leo Dicaprio is good looking handsome and is the greatest living actor of his generation. He chews up the screen when he’s on it… Heath Ledger same thing. Jake Gyllehaal same thing Christian Bale All good looking all great actors

Pitt not so much. Pitt has done well in some movies but Dicaprio he ain’t never will be

Some people think that just because an actor can achieve A list status that they automatically become endowed with talent. I just don’t find that to be the case.

What? I don’t understand what you mean. So you’re not saying that he can’t act well, but that he plays roles where his looks are important?

I’m saying that there are lots of roles where he’s done a lousy acting job.

He’s done well acting in a few roles.

I think on the whole he isnt the greatest actor out there and his acting is uneven at best.

I’m saying he gets cast in roles because of the way largely because of the way he looks not his acting ability. He’s a box office draw.

I think that on the whole most people don’t go to see Pitt because of his acting skill.

Hi, my first post on here and it’s nice to see people liking the teaser and not spewing the irrational hatred I’ve seen elsewhere. I’ve been waiting for this one for many years and it looks great.

I think Pitt works well when hes got a good director and script like Seven, Fight Club and he was great in 12 Monkeys. When he’s cast in dumb popcorn fodder like Troy hes crap because hes just going through the motions doing whats required and no more. This will more than likely fall into the first category.

He needs good material, but who doesn’t. I don’t think he was terrible in Troy, given the level of quality of the project, he was decent. To label him because of a few bad projects or choices is completely unjust because there are very few actors who haven’t made bad films. Look at Sean Penn, one of the best actors working today and he’s made some stinkers in his time, so has Leo, so has Streep. In a few years I think Brad will have gotten past this phase in his career completely and will be wholly respected, to me he’s equatable to Robert Redford of this generation.

That’s convenient because he was in that Spy Games movie with Redford. Robert Redford is totally sexier though.

I think Pitt was fantastin in Burn After Reading. My favorite role of his.

He was so over the top in Burn After Reading… and I hope he redeems himself with this. He looks good in it. However to put him in the same sentence as Penn and Streep is really fucking dumb.

If Brad Pitt hadn’t have been a pretty boy - because he has aged badly now - he would never have been considered for all the roles he’s had. Nublob is right.

After rewatching the trailer, there’s one high point I find very weak: the filming. What’s the point of hiring Richardson if Tarantino’s goal was to duplicate the flat aesthetic of the seventies italian men on a mission movies? Ok, with KB, he borrowed from Shaw Brothers and Japanese exploitation but these films, contrarely to western exploitation movies, had a visual, a style. There’s a point when paying tribute doesn’t excuse everything.

Yes because putting someone in the same sentence as someone else automatically calls for a comparison. And it’s that kind of shallows-as-hell mindset that makes it impossible for some people to be taken seriously. Look at Dicaprio, he’s one of the best working today and he’s still got detractors because of that whole Leo-Mania bull from Titanic. So, just because you can’t look beyond the surface doesn’t mean there’s anything else there.

I happen to like Leo. His performance in Catch Me If You Can and The Aviator BOTH deserved an Oscar.

Whew! Reading that article where QT led us through the teaser, man, when he said that “watching Donny Donowitz’s character beat the germans is the closest thing you’ll ever get to watching a movie,” boy, that really got me pumped. DD must be beatin the tar off of their asses, I mean, he got’s to be taking wup ass to a whole new level with that bat! LOL And when he said that the bar scene was a mini RD’s, this movie is going to rip all those other war movies a new childhood!

I hope this is QT’s masterpiece! By the looks of it, it just might be!

My fingers are sooooo crossed!
