They’re not even allowed to show a swastika? Thats crazy.

they are allowed to, but shy away from it. All the people in my age group (Germans and Austrians) I know find it as ridiculous as me.

What did you think, Germany is full of Nazis and Bavarians?

The use of insignia in fact is restricted. For movies there’s some historical exeptions, but to be honest, I hardly believe IB is going to pass censorship (that legally doesn’t happen at all in Germany) without any cuts.

so, when are we going to see a teaser poster?

A swedish website said the 20th.
Empire Magazine met up with QT himself and made him break down the trailer. No major spoilers as far as I can see: <LINK_TEXT text=“http://www.empireonline.com/features/ta … efault.asp”>http://www.empireonline.com/features/tarantino-talks-inglourious-basterds-trailer/default.asp</LINK_TEXT>

Empire… you are awesome! This is more material from the Damon Wise interview with QT on set but still top-notch info.
Thanks for that.
Nice article, thanks for sharing it (no spoilers for people who are spoilers maniacs like me). It’s just details and talking about the characters and comments on the trailer.
Do you really think Tarantino never thought of Schwarzie and Sly as he protests in the article ?

Cool stuff. Interesting how he talks about different visual themes in each chapter.

I don’t think we’ll truly ever know that now. Possibly not. But I did chuckle a bit at how a few of the things I would have played in my mind as to when he come up with them, he felt thew need to address and state that they were there from the beginning; the Shosanna story, the introduction of Hitler etc.
Now the mystery has been solved
But why the extra u in Inglorious? “I can’t tell you!” says Tarantino mysteriously. “But the ‘Basterds’? That’s just the way you say it: Basterds.”
Didn’t Sly say he had spoke to QT
Regardless, while out promoting Rocky Balboa, Stallone officially denied his participation (kind of), saying: “No, I gotta talk to Quentin about that, I’ve been reading about that. That’s possible but I don’t know how we would get together, it wouldn’t be easy.”

“Inglorious Bastards – I never said it was going to star Bruce Willis, Schwarzenegger and Stallone. I don’t know who’s going to be in it at this point,” Moviehole quoted him [Tarantino] as telling Rotten Tomatoes
I think he said he would have to speak to QT - as he hadn’t heard anything about it. If I remember correctly anyway.
Edit: yeah, that’s the quote, nublob posted.
I can’t stop looking at this one… :o
Gorgeous.
yeah that’s like the beginning of a spaghetti western. someone’s family gets slaughtered and then years later the revenge… sweet revenge… a dish best served cold
I love all of it. :-* Its perfect… Its exactly as I pictured it after reading the script…
My epic scale has been raped by this trailer.
He talks honestly and with so much passion. You can tell he’s trying to do his best, and I love the guy for that, pure commitment to his work.
Ok, I just updated the Screen caps page on the Wiki, all the images are now better quality, larger, and I have added 10 more screens too.

Regarding the EMPIRE trailer breakdown (which is obviously just an extention of that article in the recent issue of the mag):
The opening shot, like most of the trailer, comes from ‘Chapter Two: Inglourious Basterds’.
So it the chapter going to be spelt like the title, or like it is spelt in the script?
“The opening chapter truly feels like a spaghetti western, but with World War Two iconography.”
Yeah, I thought exactly the same thing.
I mean the image above (disregarding the dude with that huge gun) reminds me of the scene in The Good the Bad and the Ugly when Van Cleef visits the farmer near the start of the film.
“One of the biggest changes in my conception of it from way back when until now - in fact, hands down the biggest thing - is that, in the original version of this script, Shosanna was more of a kind of movie character. She was badass. But the thing about that was, I did that with The Bride in Kill Bill. So I started making her more like a real girl in this situation.”
It’s funny they wrote that with this shot:
because that shot and of course this one:
reminded me of The Bride in Volume 2, when she’s in the desert, all dirty and fucked up.
“La Louisiane is a huuuuge deal, I think the biggest deal I’ve ever done, in any of my movies. I always said that once we’d done the La Louisiane, then… everything else won’t exactly be easy, but it will appear easy after La Louisiane. And we’ll be able to do a great climax because we’ve done the La Louisiane.”
HELL YEAH!!
“I wanted to stay away from all the silly war-movie cliches that I never bought into,” says Tarantino. “Y’know, they have to take out a guard, so they very lightly strangle him and that takes care of that. They kill a German soldier and all of a sudden, not only is there no blood on their uniform or even a bullethole, it miraculously fits them when they put it on! All that kind of stuff.”
A lot of people seem to think IB is going to be a very silly film, grounded in pure fantasy fiction, well this quote from QT proves otherwise.
“When he’s on set, he’s Aldo,” he says. “He doesn’t really break character. When you talk to him about other stuff, he talks in Aldo’s voice. And because I created the character, it’s great to have the guy around all the time.”
Haha, that made me chuckle. It’s like creating Frankenstein, QT has this character in his head and breathes life into him in the form of Brad Pitt. I bet it was a lot of fun. ;D
That was one of the first things I wrote. The Hitler stuff I wrote a long, long, long time ago. But I enjoyed writing Hitler. It was a lot of fun."
This will be interesting. Long time ago to me suggests during the Pulp Fiction-Jackie Brown days. One might even be able to compare and contrast QT’s writing from past to present during this film.
It’s great that every chapter will have a different tone. Robert Richardson is a master of setting a tone, I mean his work on Kill Bill is a testament to that. All the images I have seen so far, I have been very impressed with the tone - the colours and atmosphere they convey. The more I see about the film, the more it seems like “Kill Bill set in WWII”, of course, that is exactly what I want (mixed in with some PF).
Regarding the Teaser:
I would have liked for it to have QT hand-picked music in there. The music that is there does the job, it just doesn’t really enhance the trailer much, which is what music is all about in a QT film.
This shot looks very old-school to me. I like it.
These shots kind of remind me of Miller’s Crossing. I know QT is a Coen Brothers fan, maybe he’ll take a few leaf’s out of their book again.
It’s obvious they’re trying to appeal to the masses with that teaser. Showing a lot of action and stamping only Brad Pitt’s name on there (as opposed to any of the other actors) will clearly get people interested.
All things taken into consideration, it’s shaping up to be one hell of a film!

I thought the same but I’ve becoming suck a freak cause now everytime I see a shot in the woods, with lots of leaves and green ton, I DO think of Miller’s Crossing but not all the directors are influenced by this movie, ahah.
