Hostel

Not a horror fan?.. There are a million reasons but why?
I cant stand gore or watching people suffer. It bothers me beyound reason. I also think for the most part they are all the same, especially newer ones. Hillbillies + young teens + disturbing torture = new horror flicks I just think its terrible. 28 days later was one of the few “horror” flicks i liked, but i think a big chunk of it is a thriller, so its a bit different.

Yeah im really a fan of the older more stylized horror films( which aren’t unnecessarily violent ) - rather then the teen slashers of today… Which reminds me i saw the At The Movies review of Hostel M. gave it 2 1/2 stars and David didn’t give it anything - surprisingly enough for both critics it wasn’t the worst film of the night anyways they did highlight the fact that in horror the violence wasn’t always seen and it was probably cooler that way

There’s a place where all your darkest, sickest fantasies can come true…where you can torture, punish or kill for a price…

Have you seen it?Did you like it?..Why do you think Tarantino produced it?

All in all,it’s just another gory movie, with more sex, violence and blood than The Last House On The Left

…but I still like Eli,even though he is now, claimed to be-the sickest man in the industry…

p.s.it’s been a long,long time 8)

Yeah, i agree. But i found Hostel to be above the usual teen horror film fare. I have developed somewhat of a taste for good horror films. It is kind of hard to please me when it comes to horror now, because i never thought much of it and now i only want to see the good ones. A lot of the teen stuff nowadays just fails to appeal to me.

“well that’s just, your opinion, man”

I am gonna watch this in a couple of weeks when it comes out over here. but from what i know about this film, it is clearly a film where I would say, that not liking it is okay, because not everyone is so horny about gore and all that

This had the potential to be a real shocker. If Eli Roth had have paid more attention to the story and the script rather than taking the usual route of torturing a bunch of unlikable teenagers, it would have been good. Sadly, it isn’t good. It isn’t even worth paying money to see it, or even buying a pirate copy. It really is THAT bad.

The only reason it has had the sort of exposure it has had, is because of the very clever marketing tool… IE “Quentin Tarantino presents”.

Cabin Fever was a poor enough debut for Roth and he clearly hasn’t learnt from the mistakes in that in which he proved himself to be a very mediocre scriptwriter.

I was recently very angry to hear he might be adapting Stephen King’s Cell for the big screen… doesn’t bear thinking about.

ok yeah it could of been better but i love gore and it was gorey alright well i still likes i even liked both of the saws and they kinda suck exept for the gore )

who me?
Saw was horrible, and the gore didin’t even disturb me at all. Hostel on the other hand is very poor in story and character, but the gore is genuine and fun. Yet Cabin Fever is Eli’s best movie yet.

yeah well that movie cabin fever was fucked i never expected ne thing in it but yea it was good n’ shit and i still like the gore disterbing or not i life for that shit

I so fuckin’ look forward watching Hostel after I saw the trailer yesterday. But I have to wait until the end of April.

This is a good movie, well made and very suspenseful, but I also found it disturbing to the max. Some of the torture-scenes were almost too much for me, and it wasn’t the pure depiction of gore, but the psychological impact this movie had on me.

I’ve been thinking a lot about it, why particularly “Hostel” feels more creepy than that gruesome slasher-movie “Wolf Creek”. Both of them advertise with their realistic appeal, both of them are supposedly based on actual events. I think, it’s mainly the notion, that in “Hostel” there’s a very large community enjoying to inflict violence on fellow human beings, a kind of sick subculture, whereas in a movie like “Wolf Creek” it’s only the individual who’s mentally fucked up. I still recommend “Hostel”, but it’s surely not for everyone, so be careful whom you’re gonna take with you in the theater. I have to admit, that “Hostel” even haunted my sleep. I didn’t have any nightmares, and all, but I woke up a few times, immediately recalling some of those images before my eyes, thus continuing to think about the story and the psychological background. It’s dark. And I really was grateful for having company in the theater, in order to discuss the movie afterwards in a mature way. That way I could more appreciate some of it’s merits.

Well, “Hostel” may be one intense and sick ride of movie, but it’s also one of the most effective and well done Horror-movies in recent history. And it’s a good thing they put some humour in it, too. It’s the twisted kind of “Woohoo, get some, bitch”-revenge-with-a-vengeance kind of humour, but it really helps to release the tension in between. And despite the running time of 95 minutes, “Hostel” felt like 45 minutes. I was like sitting on edge the whole time.

That is the very first time I have seen a good review for this movie since it was released.

Wolf creek was based on a whole collection of true events. Backpackers who have disappeared over the years in Australia, as well as cases with serial killers targeting backpackers. I expect that Hostel is based on actual events in the same way. A collection of stories about such incidents.

So theres little actual truth i gather… just a sort of composite of truths… :stuck_out_tongue:

It was a good movie, but I was disappointed about the way it ended.
