Hostel

So theres little actual truth i gather… just a sort of composite of truths… :stuck_out_tongue:

Some bitch in the video store where i work was going on about “how do they know what happened if Wolf Creek was based on a true story” thinking they were being lied to. But it never says based on a true story, it says something to the effect of “based on true events”. It is based on a collection of true backpacker murders.

But Hostel, I would believe stuff like that happens, but i know nothing of how it was found out.

Well i watched this movie last night and it did kinda scare me :o I think it is going to take sometime for me to watch this again :-</E>

Bloody good (if you excuse the pun). A horror that made me cry, I really cared for the characters and felt upset when…Oh I won’t spoil it for you. I also loved ‘Cabin Fever’ so now I’m looking forward to seeing what Eli Roth does next. Nice to hear the remix of Willow MacGregor’s song from ‘The Wicker Man’ during the sex scene. I wished I was in a cinema full of people shouting at the screen as I wanted to do so myself!

anybody know what all is added in the uncut version?

Often blurry reception, but here’s a pretty good interview with Roth for DVDTALK:

I’m kind of irritated by people saying the movie is bad because of stupid reasons; like…The movie had no point, just torturing… >:(when in fact it’s showing how dangerous that part of Europe can be, and I also like to look at the film as a survival/horror movie.

You can’t just rate the movie bad because you are too much of a pussy to handle watching torture scenes either…the fact that those scenes make your stomach weak make a point right there. Eli Roth did a good job in creating his vision and was able to make people nauseated…that’s the point.

I really loved the hole hit and run scene at least the film brought me to the point where i was thinking “oh yeah heres your chance run over those bitches… ah… YESS!” As for the violence as i said before the film may have been violent but i dont think it was all that graphic… i mean my memory is a little fuzzy now ??? but i dont think in the drilling scene that they actually showed him drilling into the person they just showed before and after, with screaming…

^^Yes, there’s nothing I like to watch more than a little revenge

The point of the film was to entertain, as with most horror flicks. Hostel was no masterpiece, but it was a fun movie.

Currently making my way through the DVD. Listened to Roth’s solo commentary.

LoL, At the beginning he asks the question, “Why does this DVD have 4 commentaries? It’s because I got a lot to say”. And he ain’t kidding! The guy doesn’t shut up!

The “Making-Of” is divided into 3 featurettes and believe me on this one, it’s definetly the most entertaining behind-the-scenes documentary I’ve seen yet…And that was just part one!

Sure is shaping up to be a killer DVD. I’m saving the Tarantino/producers commentary for last.

It was a fucking horror film. Does it really matter to people if the film “had no point”. I disagree with that statement, but even if it didn’t have a point, who really gives a fuck. It was a good film.

Last time I checked most films don’t have a point in the way that people think they should. Their point is to entertain. Kill Bill’s point was to entertain. Film is a form of entertainment. It does have the power to influence people and sway the masses, but ultimately it is a form of entertainment. Hostel was entertaining, therefore it had a point.

i hope schnittberichte.com gets a detailed comparison (as always) up pretty soon.

but if you have the choice, why bother with the theatrical cut if you can have a bit more

i read somewhere that some scenes are a bit longer, such as the cruzification scene and the final showdown. and i heard there are harsher deleted scenes on the disc

Oh, I’ve already seen the theatrical cut. I didn’t mind bothering because, well, I got to see it in the theater. I was just curious about the unedited version, even if I’ll probably see it eventually anyway.

there’s been 3 instances in my life when i saw a movie twice while it was in theaters…and I saw Hostel twice for some reason, I guess i really liked it to that extent.

What were the other two instances?

I saw both A History of Violence and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang twice whilst they were in cinemas. They were both great films, but the main reason was that the people I were with on both occasions hadn’t seen them and there was nothing else there (after mix-ups with movies that weren’t even out).

I would have seen Kill Bill 1 + 2 both twice, or more in theaters…but I just never got the chance as I am always busy with work, etc. Let me think, When i was younger I saw Toy Story twice , i guess because it was the first 3-D animated movie ever to come out so it was exciting. Damn, I can’t think of the other movie i saw twice, but w/e.

Hostel is good, but not that good.

Poll added, extremly late, but… ;D ;D ;D
