Hostel Part II (2007)

… Actually come to think about it there arent any great American directors nowadays other than Tarantino and Rodriguez… Maybe Fincher, Oliver Stone, Spike Lee, Tim Burton and Kevin Smith…[/quote]

PTA, Wes Anderson, Frank Darabont, Spielberg, Terry Gilliam, Michael Mann, Danny Boyle, Chris Nolan, Michael Gondry, Todd Solondz...all MILES better than Roth. Just comparing their talent to that of Eli Roth is an insult to all these people.

spike lee can suck my cock!

I like the way Kevin Smith’s name is crossed out

Gondry is french not American… I hate Roth… Just sayin that what blue meant is thats hes one of his favourite upcoming directors… Gilliam is a legend he belongs to the Hitch, Kubrick list and I included Spielberg… I cant believe I forgot PTA… not a big fan of Mann though… Anyways Im not a big fan of American cinema these days… My favourite directors of today are:

American:

Quentin Tarantino

Robert Rodriguez

Asian:

Takashi Miike

Takeshi Kitano

Chan Wook PArk

Kim Ki Duk

Latin American:

Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu

Alfonso Cuaron

Guillermo Del Toro

Carlos Reygadas

Waler Salles

Fernando Meirelles

Fabian Biellinsky

Europe:

Michael Gondry

Pedro Almodovar

Shit you’re right. Danny Boyle and Chris Nolan are also British, even though it could be argued that they’re making American films now. But my point was that there is quite a bit of talent nowadays, and this talent is far superior to that of Eli Roth.

Christopher Nolan is one of my favourite directors working today. And I’m Australian but think Nolan is still very much a British director, despite working in the American film industry.

I just can’t think of anyone else who would cast more English and Australian people in a movie about Batman and make it work so well. For someone who is thought of as an American icon, the English sure do a great job.

And yeah, Memento kicks major ass

just clarifying that i wasn’t apologising for my taste in movies, just trying to put across my point a bit more accurately. I dont take offence at any comments, its good to see some people still actually give a shit about their movies. Still think roth might make a masterpiece one day though i can just see the potential.

Anyway, to class directors such as PT Anderson & Wes Anderson (who are both really amazing directors) as the new generation is strectching it a bit, they emerged in the mid-late nineties, as did some of my faves innaritu & chris nolan. So who are we left with as the new school of auters? Gondry (who is the jury is still out on) and Edgar Wright (who’s kind of at the same stage as Roth but not as good IMO). I cant think of any others who have emerged post-millenium…

Well said lol.

The Wachowski Brothers are ones to watch as well- Speed Racer looks like its gonna be good. And I loved the Matrix.

Batman wasn’t as good as I expected it to be, but I still liked it. The cast was perfect IMO. But I more excited for the sequel because the Joker and Harvey Dent(Aaron Eckhart!) will be in it.

And yes, Memento kicks major ass.

Michael Keaton was the best Batman - and Jack Nicholson didn’t hurt the movie either.

How many Edwige’s fans… ;D ;D ;D

On the audio commentary, Eli said that there was one guy who went to an advanced screening of Hostel and was wearing a “Cannibal Holocaust” shirt. The guy told Eli that Hostel wasn’t gory enough. :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh I REMEMBER him saying that! It makes sense now, as in another interview Roth said he hated Cannibal Holocaust…

Got ya

Please, someone tell me what is so great about Eli Roth.
