Okay, I posted my last DVD, which is the extended version of HERO from china
And then there were some questions about the length of the movie. I answered there, well, I don´t wanna go too off topic, so I think we should open a new topic about the movie.
I´m just on work and have less time, so I can post later…
But feel free to post you thought about the movie and what you heart about the different cuts.

Please don´t start a discussion how much Miramax fucked up the movie, first it is a given and second, I opened a Miramax topic in the Chat board and we have a Mira - Hero discussion somewhere on the board…

So Basically you have to buy the last one because its the super limited edition with the FULL LENGHT DVD. they are suckers, because 1) they make you buy the expensive one if you want all the specials 2) they dont have english subititles with the extras.
Edit: The documentary is available seperately. Also, these are the Chinese DVDs. We can hope that the HK or other region3 discs may be even better.
Just dont buy the 95 minute fuck-up miramax version and you’re all good
This is the version I have. The extended or DC called one.
The monkeypeach site says it is 118 min long.
The easydvd site says it is 108 min long…

This is a fucking great movie and it is mine…yeah!
There are some people out there on other sites who say there will be MAYBE later a longer version. But this is only a rumour…
IMO this longer version is great. There is no need for a longer one. But well, I wait what will happen in the States, if they will release there a third version, I will buy it.
But the extended version is great! Do and see it.

Is there a fight between Flying Snow and Broken Sword at the riverside? You know, where they are dressed all in green, with the waterfall in the background? In that fucked-up-Miramax-Version they were just standing and facing each other, but then I found this picture. Looks awesome:
I dont think there are more than 2 versions in terms of lenght. there is the mirmAXED version, and the extended one. all others are just different editions…

because harvey FATMAN weinstein thought, smartass motherfucker he is, that the movie didnt make sense so he let it re-cut and shorten. and since miramax (i.e. buena vista) distribute interantionally, they have lots of power, so every country worldwide buys the movie not from china, but from Buena Vista. so you have the entire world flooded with the MiramAXED versions of Hero, Shaolin Soccer, Malèna etc…
the MiramAXED version of Hero is not only cut, its RE-EDITED, its not just censored, its CHANGED. i saw it in the theaters a year ago and it really was boring as shithole

I have a region 0 that I got before Hero was even slated to come out in North America. And its the short one without the riverside battle. Make of that what you will but I believe the short version is the one originaly released in China, and the extended version has stuff that was added later not stuff that was cut. But thats just a hunch.

i am not sure of that. but it was Miramax who forced all those cuts and it could be that they even released that crappy version in china. but as far as i know the original theatrical screening was the original uncut extended version
Here you can find a detailed comparison (in german) between both existing versions.
i dont know, might be. there’s always tons of footage for a film. there’s a 5 hour version of Apocalypse Now, that doesnt mean that its a finished film, that means thats all the footage edited together for a possibly working version. who would buy that (i would)
well, i am holding the Hero extened SE (the big box) in my hands right now. I’ll post a little review after i’ve seen it. too bad i cant decypher the booklet (all in mandarin)
I have the dutch version of Hero. But there is a mistake, on the cover it says that the movie is 110 minutes long. So I thought that it was an uncut version. But the movie is 94 minutes long with the credits afterwards. I felt a little bit cheated.

I just saw Hero in theater’s i have to say that this is movie is one of the best films of 2004 already. I did get a little confused in the story, and the different variations in the story. But overall i have to say that this movie was great. Every scene was beautiful. Espically the fight at the lake. I loved the colors in this movie, how they used each variation with different colors. It was just a great movie.

I saw it just two days ago and I think it’s great. I was browsing the IMDB message boards and there were a bunch of people calling it communist propoganda or at least a sort of parable with the so-called war on terror. I don’t really agree, but I could see how one would think that and I wanted to know what you people think.
