Yes that’s correct.
Also correct: there are missing reels, and jumpcuts and all that stuff
PT 80 minutes
DP 90 minutes
PT international (seperate and dvd release) = plus 20 minutes footage.
DP international (seperate and dvd release) = plus 30 minutes footage.
this is what Robert said…
i’m not gonna tell what’s in the missing reels. and they are not ‘reels’ per se, but just scenes missing. sometimes it would just be seconds, like frames missing or so, sometimes an entire scene and it would jump from a conversation to a burning house or something. at one point the film burns on screen. wild stuff.
so that’s that.
So the MISSING REEL title card thing isnt right? Ok. I didnt know that.
well it’s “right”, but it’s not a REEL. i mean, that much isn’t missing, it wouldnt be a reel really in terms of length. but there are some title cards that say missing reel (i can remember at least one), but then there are just lots of things missing
ok, so i was right, there isnt a title card that says “missing reel”?
there’s at least one.

Its not that I thought theres a missing reel, we all know its just footage thats being left out. I just wanted to know if there was a title card that said Missing Reel and there is. So I was correct.
it just doesn’t make sense to have a title card that says “missing reel”! if they want to replicate the “grindhouse” experience, there wouldnt be a sign saying missing reel, it would just be missing with no explantation…
Grindhouse films didnt have Missing Reels. They just had missing frames.
then whats the point of “missing reels”?!
to make the audience laugh. jeeez do we have to question everything like it’s rocket science?
The whole Missing reel thing came from QT who bought a print of a 70s movie. When he watched it, he found out that it was missing a reel (20-30 minutes of footage which contained a major plot point). So he ended up watching the movie without that reel and found it added an interesting mystery to the second half of the film. Thats where the concept for the Missing Reel (skip in the storyline) came from.
Did a lot of the older grindhouse films have missing reels?
well I think it could just happen.

Just wondering Seb, are there candy ads before the trailers during the intermission?
