Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

What did you like about this movie? For me the best part in the movie is just Johnny Depp, the way he plays it: fucking amazing!! Plz will someone give him an Oscar for that :stuck_out_tongue:

What bothers me sometimes is that most people find this movie wierd and totaly not interesting because noting really happens!! I respect that, but at least you can enjoy Depp’s character wright?! So hilarious…

I thought the key point of the movie and the book was that they were trying to find that American dream, but nothing ends up happening. I love the movie and the book. Johnny Depp did the best Hunter S. Thompson impersonation ever captured on film.

#3

well it was like gonzo filmmaking. it was faithful to HST and very good very surrealistic and a wild and crazy style that unfolds

#4

Yea, this movie kicks so much ass. I just got the Criterion the other day, the extras are really cool too. Johnny Depp is prbly one of my fav contemp. American actors, same with Del Toro.

#5

Yep indeed, Johnny Depp is just amazing. And really funny I think as well… You should try to listen to the funny noises he makes sometimes… Too bad the dvd i got has nothing of extras on it :’(

hey man don’t steal Qtfightclub’s avatar…first come first serve

#7

Is there a rule on certain avaters that I can not use? If you can give me an avater of Raul Duke we got a deal then; then i will change it :stuck_out_tongue: 8)

#8

no there’s no rule, just an implied rule

look for Raoul Duke on a search engine, and look in the pictures folder…you should find a .gif or .jpg pic there cuz

#9

Thanx!!! I’ll search for it this week (don’t have much time though :frowning: ) If i find it, consider this avatar gone

#10

Its all good, i switched mine, to Travis Bickel, ive been in a Taxi Driver mood lately.

Anyway, the extras on the DVD are simply amazing, i cant wait to listen to Hunter’s commentary, cause he is fucking hillarious! The 2 docs on him are really good, im really thinkin about reading Fear and Loathing.

#11

Do that. I heard it’s a good book. Read the Rum Diaries too. I think that’s what it’s called.

btw, QTFightClub, I thought your avatar was a pic of Edward Norton pointing a gun at the camera

#12

Rum Diaries is said to be made into a film soon.
i cant wait to listen to Hunter’s commentary, cause he is fucking hillarious!
Listen to what he says about Tobey Maguire ;D

Yeah so it is true?? there gonna make another movie from the book of Hunter S. Thompson?? That would be so cool…

I read in a magazine that Del Toro would do his character again from F&L, but nothing was said about Johnny Depp… Anybody who knows he’s gonna play in it again? Clearly there isn’t someone else who can play Raul Duke (i do not not know anything about that other book, so maybe a stupid question bur raul duke is in it right?!  ::slight_smile: )

^ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0376136/ Has anyone seen Where the Buffalo Roam? Bill Murray plays Hunter. Is it any good?

#15

Thanx a lot!! O yeah he’s gonna play in the movie, my Johnny!! But a different character though?! As Paul Kemp? Who the fuck is he?? Can’t wait 4 this movie though…

#16

Rum Diary isn’t going to be a sequel to Fear and Loathing or even a prequel. Sure, its hoping to bank off of the cult status Fear and Loathing has, but its an entirely different story (occurring BEFORE the big acid and drug waves, so no pyschadelic stuff in this one, either) with entirely different characters save Johnny Depp in his Thompson role. The lead in this one is Paul Kemp - practically the antithesis to Duke - and is more like the real life Thompson than the caricature of him in F&L.

Still, I think it stands a very good chance of being great. The book has a very different vibe from Thompson’s post-Hell’s Angels career, but its still entertaining, and should definitely be purchased by any of his fans.

#17

Probably still gonna be great, if Johnny is in it… And of course Del Toro can’t be forgotten… We’ll see…

#18

i loved the movie, johhny depp’a narration was excellent! im going to have to read the book.

Classic Fear and Loathing quotes

Circus Clown:

“Step right up and shoot the pasties off the nipples of a ten foot bull dyke!”

Drug film narrator:

“Know your dope fiend. You will not be able to see his eyes because of tea shades, but his knuckles will be white from inner tension and his pants will be crusted with semen from constantly jacking off when he can’t find a rape victim.”

The book was one of the best books I ever read. I highly recommend it. Great read if you are a fan of the film and Thompson.
