My pick is “Platoon”, that film didnt just change my view on war but on film aswell, it has a rawness i think Apocalypse Now doesn’t have, i like The Deer Hunter more as a film but i enjoy the drama aspect of it more than the actual war sequences, Platoon is beyond great as a war film to me, so so great

I love the war movie genre. Platoon was good, but so is the whole Stone trioligy; Born on the fourth of july and heaven and earth were also great.

Apaocalypse Now was nice but I refuse to believe the whole Vietnam war was one crazy bloody circus with clowns, playboy bunnies and guys racing around in boats.

hard to choose; so many great war movies, I also really liked the Band of Brother series, anybody else seen it? I bought the box today.

but if I had to choose I’d also pick platoon, one of the few movies that showed the reality of war.

I’ve only seen 2 of those films, but out of all the war films I have seen, saving Private Ryan is the best. I love watching and listening to it on surround sound

from the list, saving Private Ryan is probably my fav

Where’s the Greats!? >:(

My Fav’s ‘The Great Escape’

The Great Escape was actually betta than i antipated, but i choose SPR

where the hell is Black Hawk Down?

The Great Escape is my favorite, but from this list I would say Full Metal Jacket.

And what about “We Were Soldiers” ???

I think that’s not much of a serious “critique” in that sense but I’d also go as far as to call the film “not good” (for reasons I analysed in the research paper I wrote for my high school graduation). But what the film does good, is create a gorgously-photographed war film, and show an episode of the Vietnam war previously not much centered on. the overly patriotic bullshit and sadistic violence aside, this movie is well entertaining and can serve (along with the documentaries and commentaries on the DVD) as a good starting point for research on the Vietnam War (and how that War is portrayed in american film in general).

WWSoldiers is a very modern approach to the matter and it at least “tries” to be unbiased… which it ends up being not…

i think its the cast that did it for me

Mel Gibson, Chris Klein, Barry Pepper, Ryan Hurst aren’t really war material if you ask me

i hate it when they give war films this ‘modern’ ‘youthfull’ twist, keep it dark, war is hell

I pick Platoon too

I chose SPR, but that might change when I get to watch Taegukgi

noone appreciates the master Ridley Scott and his seminal war flick Black Hawk Down ???

that was a great film indeed

The game was better than the film :-</E>

My pick is platoon…great, great, great fucking movie!

THE LONGEST DAY does not deserve to be on the goddam list. That movie bored me. It jumps around between 40 friggin characters and expects the audience to give a shit about a character with 5 minutes of character development. It also has John Wayne parading around and killing Nazis like war is EASY >:(

I say if you take The Longest Day off the list and substitute in BLACK HAWK DOWN you got a PERFECT LIST.
