Controversial opinions about movies

I think the reason Watchmen ranks a little lower for me (and I love the shit out of that movie too) is because it really doesn’t do anything the comics didn’t do (besides making everyone super tough/strong). Most of the dialogue was word for word what it was in the comics so the first time through I already had this weird feeling I’d already seen the movie.

On the other hand I’ve been a fan of the bat-family of books my whole life and The Dark Knight incorporated all that into it’s own story. Of course fans would have been pissed if you do something like that with Watchman so it’s understandable and definitely the right choice.

I think more than anything The Dark Knight was about the power of hope and for all the good Batman does he’s just not a symbol of that. In the end he knows that he has to be the guy that strikes fear into people’s hearts. Just because he’s letting the world perceive him as a villain doesn’t mean he is one.

I can’t think of a character in Watchmen who really blurred the lines between hero and villain.

The super intelligent and wealthy guy, well, he un-blurs it quite quickly but…yeah.

I should rewatch it :stuck_out_tongue:

And I must state that I haven’t actually read any comic book of any kind, so I can’t compare the movies to the books. But TDK didn’t get all his fame only from batman comics fans.

Yeah, there was a shitload of “Heath Ledger’s dead so now I love him” fans attached to that movie’s success.

He was no James Dean. Shit, even James Dean didn’t get an Oscar for Jett Rink in Giant. That Oscar belonged to Josh Brolin.

See that’s the problem with the Academy - it’s all a popularity vote these days, you look back to the 30s and 40s - especially in that 1939 year, Bette Davis made: Dark Victory, Juarez, The Old Maid, The Private Lives Of Elizabeth and Essex!

She was nominated for Dark Victory but out of that aersenal of fantastic films she didn’t get jack shit!

If Bette were alive in this day and age she would win every year, that’s how terrible this generation of films are.

Agreed. Good movie indeed but I don’t think it deserves the amount of praise it has received.[/quote]

where were all you Godfather-sceptics when I was the only one who said the movie is just good, not one of the best movies ever made? I remember people jumping at me like crazy.

The Godfather is mostly a movie for people who prefer books over movies, as no cinematic cards are played out excessively .

Books are awesome. The Godfather is awesome.

Books are awesome Geoi. God bless you for saying that. The Godfather is not awesome. The Godfather Part II is awesome.
