Controversial opinions about movies
Well, I can totally understand your thinking. However, have you ever watched her in interviews? She’s lost without rehearsal. People always forgive her cos she’s super attractive… I won’t take that away from her… But that’s all she’s got going for her. She has no personality, and no intelligence.
Yeah, I said she says dumb stuff. If anything that just makes her a normal 23 year old American girl. And I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t leave an accurate representation of myself if I was constantly being questioned and scrutinized. Especially if strangers who get paid to create controversy were the ones shaping the world’s perception of me.

Megan Fox isn’t some poor innocent darling that the evil press has turned into a joke, she’s a joke that the press has turned into a household comedy. If every other actor or actress in Hollywood can make it through their press junkets without offending the audience or taking shots at others in Hollywood or the people she’s on set with - why shouldn’t she be held to the same standards? Why should her performances not be held to the same standards as other actresses? Just because she’s pretty? She says dumb things and takes shots at others, of course the vultures are going to latch onto that. They would do it to anyone else too.

She’s pretty, but she doesn’t do a whole ton for me. She’s plastic to me. Like the girls in porn, who do a lot more for me if I shell out money to buy something of theirs.

Well said, Josh. You and porn make a great team.

I have to go back to this real quick…
Now for more controversy:

 • Titanic is the best film Cameron has directed.
WHAT!!! I thought Titanic sucked so bad. Beautifully shot, granted, but I didn’t care for it. Even if I did like it, Terminator 2 is his best work. In my opinion, anyway. Or even The Abyss and True Lies. Hell, I like a lot of his stuff… Almost all of it.

You better hope lili doesn’t come here

I like Cameron…he does make good stuff and Terminator 2, True Lies and The Abyss are great movies. But to me T2 and TL didn’t really rise beyond the level of a good action flick. Enjoyable indeed, but rather forgettable imo. Arnold is indeed an iconic and memorable character there but I really didn’t care about the rest. I actually like The Abyss more than those two.

Not to write a review of it but I was truly moved and immersed with Titanic and it actually made an impression on me that stuck. It is indeed beautifully shot as you said and the soundtrack is amazing as well. I found the acting by Winslet mesmerizing and while DiCarpio was not as good, they did create a good chemsitry on screen and compensated the other quite well. Clearly the dialogue is not the strongest point of the movie and it does feels a bit sappy at times, but overall, it is alright and the movie doesn’t depends so much in it and there are also some good lines to be found. While over 3 hours long, I never felt bored at any time or that the movie dragged. It was actually quite balanced and from the point where the ship hits the iceberg, the movie builds up increidibly towards the climax where the ship sinks.

Thank you for expanding on that point. And this is a really cool topic, so thanks also for starting it. I’m not sold on Titanic, and never will be. I saw it once, in the theater only because my boyfriend made me go with him to see it. I wished I was on the boat so that I could jump ship and die just to get out of it. I’m not into true story disaster flicks (even though this was based more on fictional circumstance). I couldn’t wait til they died. Too bad they didn’t kill off Kate’s character also, then there wouldn’t be a movie and I wouldn’t have waisted 3 hours of my life. :stuck_out_tongue: ;D

She’s not held to the same standards though. That’s the point I’ve been making. This whole “war” the media created between her and Michael Bay is the perfect example. She didn’t say anything about Bay that Shia Lebouf hasn’t said before. Pretty much everyone who’s worked for him has said he runs the set like a dictator.

Nobody threw a tantrum when Katherine Heigl bashed Judd Apatow and Knocked Up. Or when she said the writers of Grey’s Anatomy were sexist. Or when Rose McGowan said if she lived in Ireland she’d join the IRA.
Well said, Josh. You and porn make a great team.

I think the only Cameron film I’ve really enjoyed was Terminator 2. The last half of Titanic wasn’t bad but it wasn’t worth what we had to sit through to get there.

Ditto. Just saw it again recently, thinking I just hadn’t understood before, and fuck was I right the first time. It really does take a great filmmaker to make a truly bad film. That it was applauded for anything other than it’s effects is mind boggling.

The Godfather is one of the most grossly overrated films of all time.
The Godfather is one of the most grossly overrated films of all time.
Agreed. Good movie indeed but I don’t think it deserves the amount of praise it has received.

I may be wrong, but I the way I see it, some people can’t fully appreciate some films unless they can appreciate the time that the films came out. Can’t fully appreciate the era unless you were alive and coherent during the era, and experiencing all the other films of the day. I mean, some films are timeless, and always great. But possibly some lose their power with time and advancements or evolutions in cinema.

The Godfather is one of those important movies to me (even though I wasn’t exactly coherent when it came out). But the Godfather II is amazing.

More to stir the pot (or not):

 • The 90s are the single best decade in movies.
 • M. Night Shyamalan is an underrated director.

Good! Hehe, which is your favorite decade in movies?

Is Shyamalan really that terrible? :stuck_out_tongue:

Shyamalan’s kinda hit and miss for me. I haven’t seen The Happening yet but from what I’ve heard it’s pretty horrible. But then again people said the same thing about Lady in the Water and I frickin’ love that movie. Not a big fan of The Village or Unbreakable but Signs is up there with some of my favorite movies of all time.

And yeah, The Godfather is vastly over rated. I mean, sure it was probly something special back in it’s day, but it’s day is over.

My fav decade, hmmmmmmmmmmm…

probably the 60’s.
Good! Hehe, which is your favorite decade in movies?

The 80’s!! O0 Extended from the late seventies to the early 90’s. Not so much a decade I guess as an era.

And as for Shyamalamadingdong, I’m completely with Dex. He nailed it.

Hate eighties culture, love the movies inspired by it ;D Particularly in the horror genre!

Going back to this:

I think the fact that you’ve heard of these comments shows indeed that she is held to the same standards. The main difference being the fact that most actors or actresses who say stupid stuff generally try to either make amends for their comments or don’t follow up their dumb comments with other dumb comments. Her comment on Scarlett Johanson was one that really bugged me. Claiming Scarlett uses a big vocabulary because she tries to prove she’s smarter than everyone else… no Megan, she’s just smarter than you.

As for The Godfather, it was a favorite movie of mine at a time. I still love it as it was one of my introductions to crime cinema, but I can totally see how younger viewers might be turned off to its more deliberate pacing.

As far as controversial opinions, I don’t really hold Kubrick in that high of regard. I like several of his movies, but can’t say I really “love” any of them.

Yeah, after you talked about era instead of decade, I guess I’d change my fav film “era” to about 1965-1975. I like that more.

I’ve been looking for a topic about this for a while!

LORD OF THE RINGS is fucking horrible! i’d rathr have a tooth pulled than sit through that again. When Ksmith included the joke about LOTR being just a movie where fool’s go cross country just to get to a friggin volcano in clerks 2 i literally cheered i remember people looked at me at the theatre but i didnt care it was the stone cold truth i no one could have put it better oh and the godfather isnt overrated imo its outdated yes but i still think its one the most interesting stories ever told on film and time has no effect on great storytelling
