. . . Btw, i thought Return to a Better Tomorrow is quite ok.

“Return to a better Tomorrow”, wasn’t that a Wong Jing wannabe Heroic-Bloodshed movie? Don’t know, once rented it, but had to switch it off after twenty minutes or so. I found the cast pretty annoying, they tried too hard to appear tough, plus the action was shot in a pretty frustrating way, full of cheesy blue colour filters and headache-inducing slow-mo effects, which were kinda stylish when Wong Kar-Wei used them in “As tears go bye”, but not here. And I couldn’t stand the horrible over-acting, and what the fuck was that all about, with the mother putting her child in a cage? I don’t remember the details, and maybe it was just the bad german synchronization, letting this movie appear worse than it actually may be. But if you say it’s actually good, I might give it another shot.

Yes, that movie ;D

I don’t remember the details, coz didn’t watch it again [ maybe 8 yrs ago or so ].

But around '94 it was something new, something refreshing. It wasn’t just a copy, but kinda travesty to the franchise.

The action gets a little better till the end, and the acting is okay. Thought, Michael Wong gives a great performance and theres a young Lau Ching Wan.

I’d to watch it again and i dunno the german cut version, so.

Here’s my old opinion. I even wrote “Dior Cheng” instead of “Ekin Cheng”, coz this guy was an unknown; so please have this in mind.

So, the german version is cut. I didn’t knew that, maybe I have to give the uncut version another try, but I wouldn’t buy it. I’ll check if Claudia has it by chance and could borrow it to me. And I just checked with www.schnittberichte.com as well, and there I learned, that even the HK-version had to be cut down in order to avoid a CAT-III rating. Hmm, that sucks.

I remember watching the new A Better Tomorrow but it was just another forgotten movie…

Wow, Chingmy Yau is in there, too? Does she look as hot as in “Naked Killer”?

(A personal guilty pleasure of mine . . .)

Are you talking about Yau Shuk Jing? No I don’t think so.

Uhh what the hell are they making this for - dont mind me i just saw a better tommorow 2 - Am i the only one who thing the new mark is a godam pritty boy - then again mabye thats what Chow Yun Fat was going for…

I’ve the british MIA - DVD [ next to their tape release ], so that shouldn’t be a problem.

No, Hung Fist was also fascinated

This guy is very cool btw; i even would call him cold. But he has some trouble playing emotions.

I’ll give the Korean ABT-remake a chance, because I’ve been positively surprised by the quality of those Gangster-Movies coming from Korea lately, addicting stuff like “A bittersweet Life”. The new cast is okay, but I don’t like the new Mark-Character as much, he sure is a pretty boy, but he’s way to young and his coolness isn’t as raw as Chow yun Fat’s. I can’t describe it well, but there’s a thing like Chow yun Fat-Coolness and something like Nicholas-Tse-Coolness. Actually I dig both of them, but the new Mark-Character (what’s his name again?) is more the Nicholas-Tse-type and somehow I can’t see him playing a tough badass with a tragic background. Well, I think I’d better try to see it as a different movie alltogether, not a remake, because I don’ want my adored John-Woo-Classics to be touched ever. I don’t know, maybe it’s partly arrogance by me, but if Hollywood would have tried to remake this move, I’d be rambling and foul-mouthing it like crazy.

Until we create some form of identifying types of “coolness” and measuring them then the stuff your talking about cant be described well but i get what you mean… this guy probably wont be all that believable unless the actual characters changed to suit em

Seems, you haven’t seen anything with Louis Koo yet ?

He’s neither CYF - cool nor Nic Tse - cool. He’s cold.

Tough Badass with tragic background ? Watch Masked Prosecutor with him [ and Jordan Chan ], the HK version of Punisher.

Watch him in Throwdown and Election…this guy’s the new CYF, yeah

It’s funny that this thread is becoming a ABT remake thread

yeah contrai, you like Nicholas Tse?

Nic Tse ? Yes, like him. Especially his music, but also as an actor.

are you Chinese?Or maybe you just interested in Chinese pop music and movies?

There aren’t many people who are as cool as CYF. That is why it is too hard to make a new ABT film without CYF.

just interested.

and just in music / novies, not in history or language or landscape…

I’m don’t like the contemporary Hong Kong pop music that’s going right now…but I do like Kelly Chan’s music. Her acting sucks though.

I like Chinese films…music…history…culture…language…

I am a Chinese fan boy, but i like Japan equally as much as (if not more than) China.

JOHNNIE TO DIRECTS CHOW YUN-FAT IN HARD BOILED REMAKE

A sharp-eyed reader forwarded me the link to a story in Apple Daily, Hong Kong’s premiere tabloid-style newspaper (think the New York Post in Chinese) that claims Johnnie To will be directing Chow Yun-fat in the Hollywood remake of John Woo’s HARD BOILED.

Apparently, the remake rights have been purchased by a US company who signed Chow on to repeat his performance. They then tried to get John Woo on board to direct, but Woo declined saying that he didn’t want to remake his own movie. Chow then recommended that they contact Johnnie To who agreed to direct.

Although this is still at the “rumor” stage, apparently both To and Chow confirmed the story to Apple Daily with To saying that the story would be different from the original but that it would still be called HARD-BOILED. An American actor will play the Tony Leung Chiu-wai role. Production will begin in May 2007.

What a surprise…

I’ve just watched Takashi Miike’s “The great Yokai War” and now I absolutely need that cute Sunekosuri-fella as a cuddly pet-toy or something. Yeah I know, this is a most weird thing to open a thread for, but if you happen to see one for sale, please drop me a line.

It looks like this:
