Best known for Chow Yun-fat’s trench-coat wearing, gun-toting mobster character, Woo’s 1986 movie is a story about honour and brotherly love as it tracks the downfall of a gangster whose younger brother is a police officer.

If you don’t use Chow Yun Fat and don’t have Woo’s action skills, what’s the point of doing this?
I don’t know about other people but when I pop in ABT, I want to see Chow Yun Fat fucking up people with unbelievable coolness and style…
I think Louis Koo ( the guy who plays Mark ) can play Mark well. I liked his performance in Election and Throwdown and he’s able to bring the emotional subtlety of his character.
They should make a film about a few old fashioned (moral codes etc.) gansters living in a modern criminal society that knows no such things as honor or loyalty. Basically that’s what the original movie is about, but Woo’s film shows all this in a very positive light. This time they should make it feel like there’s absolutely no hope for such people. A really dark and gritty film. A bit like John Woo characters inserted into a low budget Takashi Miike ganster movie (like Rainy Dog). That’s something that could work.
Who knows? If the filmmakers want to remake they should make something contrary to Woo’s version… like more like a character driven film and less over the top action

I totally agree. They can’t top the action anyway.
I am a bit worried. I don’t know if i like the idea…
But then again, i am a bit of a purist when it comes to these things. It took me ages to accept A better tomorrow 3. I didn’t like the idea of Tsui Hark taking Woo’s place (though i do like Hark a lot). Although i thought the film was pretty good, but i don’t know if i can accept this. At least Hark’s one still had the same actors.
A Better Tomorrow 3 is one of the films that I really appreciate more. It seems to my this film i sTsui’s most personal film cus he was born in Vietnam and the settings relate to him. I think it has more character and story development compared to Tsui’s other films. A Better Tomorrow is a masterpiece, and this compared to the first looks kinda different and lame. It would have been better if this movie isn’t called A Better Tomorrow 3 and the characters have no relationships with 1 and 2.
Dang I need to see # three. I love the second way more than the first. The horrible setup, over the top acting, and the biggest ass kicking finale is so much more entertaining than the straightforward original.
The problem with the new one will be the yakuza had style where as this will be some present day music video gang crap if that makes any sense.
The second A Better Tomorrow is shown on the television in True Romance. They are watching it just before Clarence goes out to kill Drexl. Some book i read said it was the first one, but it was definitely the second one.
The second one has a wicked ending.
As far as Tsui Hark goes, I am a huge fan of Zu Warriors from the magic mountain (the original) and so if i was going to pick my favourite, it would be that.
I don’t want to see it. And i really hate it when people think i mean the new one when i say Zu warriors from the magic mountain. I always make an effort to say “the original”.
