Asian Cinema Ticker

K.

Then thats bad news, don’t wanna see it.

I want to see Untitled John Woo Project. Sounds like a cool title.

I really would like to see the red circle. I am a BIG Melville and Woo fan.

I thought Face/off fucking rocked! I really love that movie.

A quick question

Was it just me or was it Beat Takeshi in Ong Bak as a table sever?

As far as I know, it’s just some juy who looks like Kitano. I’m not 100% sure, though.

I wish John Woo was more influenced by John Woo. I saw Windtalkers the other day. What a piece of shit. He needs to move back to Hong Kong.
I don’t know why so many people hate Windtalkers. It’s one of my favorite Woo films in America. Yes it is cliche but still it’s better than many other Hollywood cliche movies. Some people took it too personal cus the story should be about the Navajo and not Nicholas Cage. But’s that should be seperated with the film’s criticism. Also it seemed to me that the film was a homage to John Ford and Chang Cheh, and that I really liked.

I don’t hate Windtalkers, but i can’t keep interest to this movie; tried it 3-4 times. I watched and forgot this, so i watched again. I’m outta the plot, the story. Don’t get into it, don’t feel with the actors. Then its getting really bland during the non action scenes. The war sequences are heavy stuff, but theres nothing behind.

I bought the directors cut some days ago, another try.

It IS a hollywood cliche movie. Thats why I hate it. The bus scene. The hospital scene with flashbacks. The poker scene. :-</E>

In fact I enjoyed many hollywood war films better than this one. I say it mostly rips off of the Glory race tensions. Or maybe it was the Patriot. And the scene where he killed the talker was so drug out I could of screamed. Its like taking the kill me scene in Dusk Till Dawn and multiply it by 5.

The thing I hated the most was you would see someone shooting from the side and then you would see the bad guys getting shot. I want to see it all in one shot dammit. Or the guy gets his head cut off. How hard is it to have a fucking dummy get his head chopped off. No we just get a fucking cut, now hes decapitated. You have to be pretty disinterested in making movies to not show stuff like that.

Spoiler for Bullet in the Head

How cliche is it compared to Mission Impossible 2? I couldn’t even bear to watch the whole film after the first 20 minutes. There are good cliches movies and bad ones. MI 2 is bad. I mean at least I cared for Cage and Ben the Navajo dude. And boy I was moved when Ben got crazy killing people. It reminds me of Jacky Cheung’s character in Bullet In The Head when he got violently insane after he got shot in the head. Hell yeah it’s even better than Heroes Shed No Tears.

By the way the director’s cut is a little longer but it’s much better. Woo’s commentary is kinda boring and he keeps praising Nicholas Cage too much.

Yeah boy enough with American movie talk. Let’s talk about Asian movies, yeah.

How is that a spoiler? I didn’t even mention the ending.

When you name a character and tell he’s going to get shot in the head, that’s pretty much of a spoiler to me. Besides, that takes place somewhere around 90 minutes. If you tell what happens during the first 15 minutes, that’s okay. But telling something that happens near the end is giving away too much.

That makes me want to see it, plus it is the title. ;D

The spoiler warnings are funny.

The spoiler warnings are a sign of respect.

Yes, that´s right. some people have not seen the movie and there is no need to spoil something. Cool to see that we both have the same opinion in this point.

OK a little bit of a light hearted one here

I was watching Take Care of my Cat and I saw one of these phone dangly things (pictrue from Google)

I’ve seen alot of them in recent films but always wanted to know what they are, and to see if there are any male orientated ones

Anyone know?

Rain, Jang Dong-gun to star in remake of John Woo’s A Better Tomorrow

HONG KONG (AP) - South Korean stars Rain and Jang Dong-gun will star in a Korean-language remake of John Woo’s Hong Kong gangster classic A Better Tomorrow.

Best known for Chow Yun-fat’s trench-coat wearing, gun-toting mobster character, Woo’s 1986 movie is a story about honour and brotherly love as it tracks the downfall of a gangster whose younger brother is a police officer.

In the original movie, Ti Lung played the gangster, late Chinese pop star Leslie Cheung played his brother, and Chow Yun-fat played the mobster’s loyal lieutenant Mark - one of modern Hong Kong cinema’s most famous characters.

In the remake, Jang will take on Ti Lung’s role, Rain will assume Cheung’s place and Hong Kong actor Louis Koo will replace Chow, Hong Kong’s Apple Daily newspaper reported Tuesday.

The 100 million Hong Kong dollar (US$13 million) production is a collaboration between Hong Kong’s Mei Ah Entertainment Group and an unidentified Korean company.

The movie will shoot on set in Seoul and on location in Hong Kong and mainland China, with a target start date of July to August, Apple Daily said.

At the helm will be director Chung Yoon-chul, who made Marathon, a film about the relationship between a mother and her autistic child.

Mei Ah didn’t immediately return a call seeking comment.

Rain is one of South Korea’s rising pop stars. Jang is known for movies like the box office hit Taegukgi, set against the inter-Korea conflict, and Chinese director Chen Kaige’s recent mythology epic The Promise.

Koo was most recently seen in another gangster flick, Johnnie To’s Election.

Hmmm… I read about this earlier today. But it sounded so stupid that I though it was a joke…

At least this proves asian film makers are just as stupid as american ones.

Well at least they got a pretty good choice for the cast. Actually Woo’s A Better Tomorrow is also a remake of a HK film in the 60’s. But Woo changed the setting from ancient times to modern HK times.

I don’t really see a point in remaking A Better Tomorrow. How are they gonna do a modern version of a film that is already a modern action/crime classic. For example Tsui Hark’s The Blade was okay because it had a totally different style/approach compared to the original version. I guess the same applies to ABT and the 60’s film it was based on (thanks for the info. I had no idea it was a remake…). But I don’t see how they can make a modern version of ABT. It could work if they changed everything from characters to story, took a totally different approach and only kept the main themes about friendship, loyalty, honor etc. But I don’t think they’re gonna to that.

Yeah I think it’s hard to do a remake of ABT cus it’s hard to top over Woo’s version…but anyway remakes are all about the money…even Woo remake his film Once A Thief. I heard Woo wants to remake Le Circle Rouge. But Le Circle Rouge is less action oriented and how Woo is gonna top over Melville’s version is beyond my comprehension…
