Thanx so much for the info

I heard that the Miike/Kitano movie Izo is supposed to make fun of KIll BILL in some way. Of course i just heard it as a rumor, might not be true. By the way MIIKE IS GOD!!
In response to Zatoichi - Darkness is his ally…This is the last Zatoichi in the series.  I’m not counting the new Kitano Zatoichi sense it’s a retelling and not part of the series.  All in All it was a good film however there are better zatoichi movies…may favorite being Zatoichi meets Yojimbo (1970)  Dir: Kihachi Okamoto
Hey Kakafuego!
Seems that you know much about the Zatoichi stuff. So maybe you can give me some recommendations. I´m new in this stuff and I just ordered
ZATOICHI CHALLENGED (1967): I read that the martial art in this is fucking great.
ZATOICHI AT LARGE (1972) the truth is I read that this one is rare, so I thought, okay get it if you can.
ZATOICHI - THE BLIND SWORDSMAN'S VENGEANCE (1966): I read that this one was so wonderful filmed by Kazuo Miyagawa, that it is def. a must
What do you think about my choices and what should I buy as the next one?

It’s a parody, nothing really mean spirited. And i’m not sure if Kitano is working on the project.

Out of those three you listed the only one i have not seen is Zatoichi At Large.  Basically all the Zatoichi movies i’ve seen kick ass.  I’ve seen about 17 of them too.  One in particular that I highly recommend is
Zatoichi Meets the One Armed Swordsman (1971) A.K.A. Zatoichi 22-- Directed by Kimiyoshi Yasuda
The final showdown in this film is really kick ass.
Thanx, man!
I found someone who sell it. But it´s fucking expensive.
I will order it at the end of April. Do you think that I should order it with ZATOICHI - THE BLIND SWORDSMAN'S CANE SWORD (J, 1967)? Cuz it´s the same director.
What do you think about the other directers ecpessily (sp? Seems that I invent a new word...) about Misumi?

In regards to my opinion on ZATOICHI - THE BLIND SWORDSMAN’S CANE SWORD…It’s a good entry in the series but nothing really that great. As for the other directors you can’t go wrong with pretty much any movie directed by Kenji Misumi. He’s got a fucking great track record in my opinion. He did make the best samurai movies around - the LONE WOLF AND CUB series-.

What i meant when i wrote Miike/Kitano was that Miike was directing it and that Kitano was starring in it.
All I read was a little paragraph from aintitcool and I never got to see the trailer because my connection is too slow, so never heard anything about Kitano being in it. I believe this is a made for Japanese tv movie…
Oh sorry, I gave the same link later ( :-[ ) than you, I didn´t read it in the Zatoichi topic.
The link you post is really sweet. You can see a yellow suited woman fighting with a sword perfectly like Uma (Uma is so much better looking).
It is made for the japanes TV and is in two (1) parts.
This is the 女と愛とミステリー
japanese main page.
I have a bad translation into english but it´s too large to post, above all in the Zatoichi topic…
i just saw that trailer and that wasn’t IZO so the rumors were wrong. Thats a different movie than the Kitano/Miike movie which is a feature length film…not made for tv.
The 2 part film: Part Time Detective?
The 2 part film: Part Time Detective?
Is that the name of the miike made for t.v. movie that has the kill bill parody? I had heard a rumor that that was on IZO which is the kitano/miike movie but that rumor was obviously wrong.
I just asked a person on a german asian board.
He pmed me back that for some time in japanese TV was a film called Part Time Detective. That´s for sure. Cuz he saw it, a friend from Japan send him a tape. He only saw it in jap without suptitles. So he can´t say that much about it.
Now Miike made this Part Time Detective 2. That´s what the link is about.
Unfortunaly he can´t say, if this was shown on jap. TV.
If you want, I can mail you a long and very bad tranlation of the movis site.
My problem is, that my english is so fucking bad and when I try to read the translation, it is very very difficult, cuz i hardly understand a word. :’(
All I know it is a 2part movie…
I don’t know if anyone’s asked this, but are there Zatoichi box sets available? I went to Borders today and saw one of original movies, but it cost about 20 bux.
I just found an other and older topic of Zatoichi in which Holiday asked about the names of all Zatoichi movies.
Sorry I didn´t saw it earlier, so I made this one to the only open one…
HellHound gave him there a wonderful link, where you can find all the names of the “old” movies:
http://www.e-budokai.com/chambara/zatoichi.htm
And Laydback asked the following question:
Does anyone know which Zatoichi movie it was when Ichi first saw the ocean? Or I take that back…First heard the ocean? I was browsing through my Zatoichi collection last night and thought that I had that one on tape, but I guess not
That really was one of the most touching moments that I’ve seen in that entire series and would like to watch that scene again. Any help?
Please contribute only here to Zatoichi movies…
thanx cps
I just saw Zatoichi in the theatre and it is really a great movie! I´m too lazy to post a review just now, it´s 1:00 am here and at 5:00 I have to go to work… maybe tomorrow,
Go and see this movie!
I dunno if you read this already but kitano will be doing a sequel…
For some months now, Kitano has been appearing in public with blonde hair, and as Kitanos hair has been its usual dark since December 2003, the change in colour has caused fans to speculate about “Zatoichi 2”. So, in order to end speculations and to answer those who emailed, kitanotakeshi.com can confirm, that Kitano indeed is making “Zatoichi 2”.
As the story goes, when Kitano agreed to make “Zatoichi”, he also agreed to make a sequel, if the first film would become a huge succes. Not only did “Zatoichi” become a huge succes, it became the biggest succes in Kitanos career as a director. Kitano didn’t talk about it, as he hadn’t decided when to make it. After all, he had only promised to make it, but not when, and he had already decided to dedicate 2004 to acting. But in August 2004, the contracts were signed and about the same time, Kitano dyed his hair blond again.
There are no details on the actual shooting, neither when nor where, on cast or on story. A possible premiere date would be during Venice 2005, but nothing is decided yet.

i myself think it’s great that he does another zatoichi film and keeps the legend alive…
I changed the title - cps
the return of the legendary, blond, blind, gamble addicted but extremly lethal Zatoichi
(or is he really blind?)
that sounds interessting. i have seen Zatoichi (2003) in the theatre and own the DVD.

Are you ready for some more of the “blind swordsman?” I know I am, so I was excited to hear news of a soon to be sequel of Zatoichi was in the works.

Beat Takeshi Kitano directs and plays the title role in this tribute to the wildly popular “blind swordsman” of Japanese cinema who was the hero of more than 20 movies and a television series from the early '60s to the late '80s. In Kitano’s version, Zatôichi wanders into a town harassed by criminal gangs, and helps two geishas take revenge on the men who murdered their parents. His mission leads him to a final, bloody confrontation with the gang’s mastermind and his hired assassin (Tadanobu Asano), a swordsman with a reputation as lethal as Zatôichi.
I found this interview with Kitano about his Zatoichi Version:
