I believe the only reason why Fabienne exists is to indirectly characterize Butch, to show what a good man he is, although he is a professional boxer and a murderer. The viewer is supposed to hate her and to recognize that Butch is such an understanding and loving boyfriend that he even accepts if she forgets his watch, starts crying all the time and keeps talking about bullshit like a pot belly.

No way! She is there to show that while Butch is “the good guy”, he is capable of exploding into a verbally abusive person who would attack a sweet and obviously “innocent” person. Her character has to be innocent to make this point credible. He didn’t mean to kill the boxer, and he wasn’t planning to kill Vincent either. He had the “best of intentions”, but they went awry. I think that a key element in the film is “best of intentions”. Each story shows that while we may have the “best of intentions”, it is very rare that the outcome is congurent with them. There is an old saying “If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans”
- Brett had the best of intentions and got killed
- Vincent had the best of intentions and damn-near killed Mia, who had the best of intentions when she snorted the heroin that was put in a baggie instead of a balloon - another case of best of intentions.
- Jules had the best of intentions when he tried to spare Marvin’s life
- Butch had the best of intentions when he tried to flee the boxing match and disappear
- Zed had the best of intentions when he was helping Marcellus pack up his shit
- Pumpkin had the best of intentions when he robbed the resturant - he didn’t plan on any violence or running into one real "bad mother fucker"
So, what are your intentions?
quentin is the greatest writer i have encountered
quentin is one of the best directors i have encountered
quentin is one of the worst actors i have encountered
not only is his portrayal of jimmy the worst performance in pf but it is a clumbsy character in many respects
"dead nigga storage" is something jules would have said … you could argue because they are friends they use similar language but “what does marselles wallace look like” is practically the same line and didn’t need to be repeated
i know he had to show jimmy being angry and not wanting to get divorced but it could have been done a lot better by developing a more unique character … i believe having a good actor in a shot/scene can make bad actors look better than they are … not even harvey, samuel and john could make QT convincing
i was horrified to read QT considered playing the part of lance himself but he wanted to stay behind the camera for the OD scene … he shoulda stayed behind the whole movie and do what he is the best at

Fabienne is certainly a way of exploring Butch’s character. All the secondary characters are; it’s just a matter of how well they’re written. Fabienne IMO is pretty terrible. She has the one speech in the movie that is just plain annoying. Nobody says they wish they had a potbelly and goes on and on about it. I think Fabienne is communicating that she’s pregnant, but it’s a terrible scene.
Anyway, Fabienne is there to show Butch before and after his war with Marsellus. Butch starts off as a total dickhead who doesn’t care that he killed a guy, even when it was an accident. But then we see him with Fabienne and we see his sweet side. What’s more, it’s obvious that Butch and Fabienne haven’t been together for long. Their dialogue is the dialogue of a couple still in the beginning stages of a relationship. Then Butch explodes, scares Fabienne to death, and storms out. He obviously has one way of dealing with things - violently. After the war, he comes back to get Fabienne. She pulls her cute woman crap at the wrong time (once again), and Butch gets testy. But then he realizes that he should change his approach, because of the events that morning, and switches to a calm, consoling demeanor. In short, Butch has grown a little.
On Jimmy:
I think QT’s performance is fine. He’s funny, and he nails the type of character Jimmy is supposed to be. Yes, he’s insulting. But he’s supposed to be. He’s pissed, and he’s pushing Jules’s buttons. This matters, because at this point in the story Jules is trying desperately not to blow his stack. And Jimmy is a cool character. Remember, he is supposed to be out of the business. But what does he do? He sells he and his wife’s best linen to a bunch of gansters! Jimmy is a reminder that getting out is harder than it seems. Jimmy is basically like Henry Hill from Goodfellas after he left the life.
I would have to agree Fabienne has to be the most annoying character.
the worst performance was the french lady with bruce willis.
now that i relizaed it

Butch gets testy before he even goes back to his apartment to get the watch and kill Vince. He is a classic wife-beater that can’t control his anger. Butch will one day lose his temper with her and give her a whack…and she will probably take it and continue to be the victim of domestic violence.

mehh…The things she discusses are a little annoying to me. (but she’s cute )
Raquel…(The wolf’s girl) is stupid. Her one liner is:
Wolf: "say hello Raquel"
Raquel: “Hello Raquel”
stupid bitch with a plaid shirt. >:(

:o Gross! Hahaha
Only bad perfromance was the woman who got shot after Butch wrecked his car. Its so bad its funny. I actually love it. The reason I find it bad is because it just looked really fake.
