Why does everybody call this a drama?

the golden globes nominated it for the Best Drama Motion Picture award. IMDB calls it a crime/drama. in many video stores it is placed in the drama section. now yes, I agree, it is a drama, but not as much as it is a comedy. I laughed a lot more than I felt sad for any of these characters. adn what really bugs me is when the video stores put it in the action section, that just makes no fucking sense to me. they call this a drama, and lord of the rings not. what the fuck is wrong with society?

QT said he thinks Dogs and Pulp belong in the Comedy section of video stores. (Reservoir Dogs DVD interview).

So its official from the man himself they are comedies to him.

yeah, I think Dogs is a drama, but Pulp is definetely a comedy. Jackie Brown is probably a drama, and it's a gimme that both Kill Bills are action.

I think people like QT and Robert Rodriguez should get their own section in the video stores…something like nouveau style or something…

you mean like a section for all of the films that are QT-esque and stuff?

Yeah, or a section with: 5 star movies…so they wont have to hang around stupid movies and people would mos def see them…cause its in that “good movies section” among other good movies…

to me…if you put any QT film in the same section as for instants stop or my mom will shoot or any other random fucked up movie its an insult to the director… ;D

But its cooler if they make a section like that…and I think those movies would be rented more…

Ive always thought they should have a “crime” section, but they never do.

i was gonna say that

Yeah, they should seriously look into making a crime section. I always see Goodfellas, Mean Streets, and even Donnie Brasco in the action section. (Honestly, Donnie Brasco has maybe 2 action sequences and they’re more like violent suspense sequences…) I also even saw Easy Rider in action before! Fucking weird.

If I was a video store clerk and I was to put this into a section, it’d go into comedy or crime. (Yes, I would make a crime section.)

Hi!

I’m pretty new here!

I think most people don’t understand the word “drama”,but first of all i agree,Pulp Fiction is NOT A drama.Reservoir Dogs definetely Is a drama. But that doesnt mean that “Dogs” isn’t funny, dogs is a drama,or better call it a tragedy, because of the structure. The Content is a typical “Heist-Movie”,but QT works with it as a drama or tragedy.

Imo PF doesn’t show this parallels to for example Shakespear,so it isn’t a Drama. But that PF is pretty funny is no argument.

ther’ya go

Black Humour or Black comedy should be used in there somewhere.

Yeah, Pulp Fiction is not an ordinary COMEDY like everyone is saying. It’s full of black humour. Just like ResDogs, only Dogs is more harsh and serious.

And I will never understand why Pulp Fiction is called drama.

haven’t heard that ???

Romeo & Julia?Black humour?

Actually a lot of Shakespears work is full of cynical wit and black humour, it depends whether your examining his dramatic tragedies or his comedies…mind you Othelo ends preety much the same way as RD, everyone preety much getting killed by last few pages so their all dead at the end…maybye QT was inspired by classical english playwirtes…all though I some what doubt it :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyway, getting myself back on topic, I definetly agree that PF and should be classified under a crime category, theres to much comedy, black humour, wit and groove for it to be a ‘Drama’…but well you wouldnt really classify it as comedy would you.

Pulp Fiction is of course a comedy. I laughed my ass off the first time I saw it. All the stuff about the watch and the Bad Mother Fucker wallet. I’d say it has dramatic elements though.

The only part that comes even remotely close to a drama in PF to me is when Jules is telling “Ringo” the meaning of the Eziekiel speech.
