What dvd did you just buy (part 2)

You don’t find that from proper American stores because judging from the cover art that’s a bootleg of the Scandinavian dvd

http://www.anotherworldent.com/TORSO.htm

The product desciption makes it seem like a bootleg of the German dvd, though.

Either way, it’s a bootleg.

well don’t that suck. Thanks for looking that up for me. So I guess there isn’t a Torso region 1?

There is, Anchor Bay’s old dvd, but it’s out of print.

^ crap. oh well. Hopefully find it on ebay or something. Thank you so much for your time in helping.

No problem. Glad to help you.

Are you getting these Dvd’s from here: (link removed - HungFist)if so i was wondering if there good quality. I emailed the guy that operates the site/works for the site and he said the Dvd’s are blue? Made me think that there bootlegs.

No, I’m not. The site you linked is a bootleg site (I removed the link from your post). I’m buying the official Toei dvds from yesasia and cdjapan. (you can get them from all the other japanese retailers, too). Remastered transfers, japanese mono, no subtitles. Let me know if you want screencaps.

Whoa that was a close one because i was thinking about ordering from there, thanks alot. Are there any legit releases with english subs?

No, and I don’t assume any to come out either, ever. These films don’t have enough audience in the west. But subtitle scripts are available for Red Peony 1-6 (7 & 8 should hit the net sooner or later as well) and Brutal Tales 1-3, so if you’re familiar with custom subbing then get the Toei dvds before the end of the month (that’s when the limited time offer, 3000 yen per dvd instead of the usual 4500, expires).

Everyone who wants a region 1 of Born Invincible look:

Taoism Drunkard

Awaken Punch

Kung Fu Massacre

Never knew it existed but it does and I am buying it. Oh and don’t worry, even though it is made by Videoasia, the reviews for this dvd on amazon, etc makes it seem like they got a dvd set right finally.

Obviously the films have not been licensed. USA is probably the only western country where “legal” bootlegs/pirates exist.

They could be public domain?

I’m not familiar with all the movies, but the ones I am I’m 99,99% sure are not.

They’re also gonna get in trouble with their recent ‘Jet Li’s Shaolin Fists Collection’ as they were too stupid to realize Dragon Dynasty owns The Bodyguard From Beijing (which is included in the set)

^ Are you talking about the collection I posted?

Is it bad for me to buy it? I can’t find Born Invincible anywhere else.

Plus if they aren’t licensed, I don’t know why sites like Bestbuy would carry it.

Sites like Bestbuy and HK Flix sell these because they

a) don’t care

b) don’t know

This is nothing new. Every non-anamorphic & full screen Sonny Chiba dvd released in the US is unlicenced as well. Most of them have later been released officially and remastered but some still remain. For example The Street Fighter has never been released “legally” on dvd in the US. These companies rely on that Asian right holders won’t come after them. They only get in trouble when some other American company owns the rights. But even then not nearly always. The Shaw Brothers films are also bootlegged all the time. The only companies in the US releasing those films officially are Dragon Dynasty, Image, Media Blasters and BCI (the last two have not yet released anything, but have licensed some films). Yet both the american web stores and normal stores like best buy are selling Red Sun bootlegs.

I don’t think Born Invincible has been released anywhere on dvd officially. What you find from that disc is most probably a vhs transfer.

I finally got around to buying the “Nanno” DVD-Box, which contains nothing but concerts and music-vids of Yoko Minamino on 12 DVDs. Since it’s a Japanese release, I’d better not tell you, how much I paid for it, but with immediate danger around the corner for this collection to become out of print, what else can you do?

Hung Fist,

Thanks for the info and heads up on them. I have never seen Born Invincible and I really want to. The guy who left a comment about it on amazon gave it a good picture transfer, so it might not be that bad. I don’t approve of bootlegs, I just bought a dvd at a store, that’s all. Not my fault, right?

I’m not judging anyone here, just telling the facts.

@Dice, pictures, pictures. Here or somewhere. Wanna see. And also, be honest, how much did you pay for that beauty?
