Ahah, fortunately you’re not talking about Cameron’s Titanic or I was about to jump on you and categorize in you with all those bitter people who hate Titanic for no reason.

I hated Cameron’s Titanic cos it’s boring, way too long, and the “love” story was stupid. I’d seen SO many documentaries on the Titanic before that movie came out, and I felt like it was just spitting on the graves of all those real ppl that died.
I don’t think Titanic is boring at all. I think it’s a masterpiece of epic proportions. Love story or no love story.
Geoi, have you watched the movie recently or do you judge the movie on the souvenirs left from your past viewings ? Cause I first loved as a teenager, and then a couple of years later felt a bit ashamed to love a love story that everybody thought was stupid. I only watched it again like 5 or 6 years ago and believe me, the movie is very good. Cameron is an excellent director and the actors are all so great. Dicaprio and Kate Winslet were already so talented. I now always think that people who dislike Titanic are : a) people who haven’t watched the movie but are snobby enough to judge it, b) people who are ashamed of something they loved deeply as a teenager (especially girls who were in love with Dicaprio).
What’s so boring about Titanic ? It’s a perfect love story, it’s never naive. And the length, seriously it’s not long, I never got bored watching it. And how can you be bored watching Titanic and are not watching Tarantino movies which are very chatty and long too ?
I agree that Titanic probably gets more flak from the film geeks than it deserves. I watched it not too long ago and it’s a decently paced drama that holds up a whole lot better than other blockbuster fare from the time such as Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, The Rock, etc.
Still unbelievable how successful it was, as I would say it’s nowhere near worth all of that kind of excitement. It’s a good flick, but not anything that would make me drive anyone else to see it if they had not.
Oh, and yeah, I was one of those teenage guys who hated it because all the chicks loved Leo ;D

Ahah, at least you now recognize it, ahah.
Well, I think the movie had such a huge success cause it’s a popular movie. It’s a love story and a drama, the actors are great, there are both poor and rich characters who are on the road of the american dream, plus the Titanic is a famous historical even (history is alwas a great deal to make audience), plus the movie is really pleasant to watch because of the perfect directing and cult music. Plus it’s an epic movie and the biggest it is, the bigger audience you can get.
Plus the success of the movie is due to the whole coverage of the movie even before it was release. Everybody knew there was gonna be a movie on the Titanic and that the director (for non-american audience and not movie geeks, his name wasn’t that famous) has a lot of financial troubles. Plus everybody knew before the release about the CGI effects which weren’t that commun in movies.
Kate Winslet showed her booty.

A billion dollars right there.
I just didn’t like it that much. Too much movie for not enough story. That goddamn dialogue… Then all those Oscars! I remember the moment I found out that that movie of all the movies that year walked off with a boat load of undeserved Oscars (except for the effects award, nobody can sink a big boat better than Cameron).
Guys…
This was not intended as a topic about Cameron’s movie, but the Ed Wood version.

All be damned, I just jumped right in like a fool. But hey, now we got a topic about Titanic.

I only watched it the one time. My boyfriend made me go to the theater with him to see it. You’d have to strap me to a chair like Alex in A Clockwork Orange to get me to suffer through it again. I have sooo many other movies I need to see.
No, James Cameron’s Titanic is one of the worst films ever. The only cool part is when people started dying. Up until that it was just a shitty, overly sentimental and poorly written love story about who gives a shit and jack all.
Who cares anyway? Let’s just settle down, everyone and watch a little movie I like to call Love Story starring two people I like to call Ali McGraw and Ryan O’Neal.

Come on, I wouldn’t dream of telling that to your face.
No, more often than not it’s the guy who’s so unwillingly dragged to see this kind of shit. The thought of some guy dragging you kicking and screaming into the theater made me laugh.
