Schmidt’s wife’s funeral is shown with a POV sequence… he looks at the casket, cut to CU, he looks at his daughter, cut to CU, but then he just starts looking around randomly and we cut to seemingly arbitrary shots like a tree or the sky. What’s with that? I mean, I get that the POV sequence in North by Northwest is getting across the feeling of isolation, but this one in About Schmidt I can’t figure out.
