According to the agent, it is just because negotiations didn’t succeed. I remember vaguely there was an article in a french magazine about how the french casting happened. Judging on the pictures he received by his assistant, Mélanie Laurent wasn’t his first choice. Then he met her and saw her acting, it changed his mind. She became his first choice after they had dinner. They never mentioned once in the press that she was fired, so I assume it was only rumors. Anne-Sophie Franck was considered for the part too, as well as Lea Seydoux. That’s why QT hired them for small parts.
