The Poster That Inspired Grind House

#1

I found the poster of Dragstrip Girl and Rock All Night that inspired Rodriguez and Tarantino to do Grind House.

Here’s the Robert Rodriguez quote explaining the significance of this poster:

"I had an idea to do a double feature. I had an old double feature poster that had two movie posters on the same poster, saying ‘Two Hot Rod Flicks Together,’ Dragstrip Girl and Rock All Night or something like that, and I thought I should do something like that; they are truncated features, like each one is an hour. I forgot about it and went to show [Tarantino] his Sin City scene, and he had the same poster on his floor (laughs). I said, ‘Hey! I was thinking about doing a double feature - you should do one and I’ll do the other one.’ He was like, ‘Oh, f*** yeah, we’ll call it Grind House and we’ll do fake trailers in between for movies that don’t exist.’ So we’re just having so much fun."

I can’t wait to see what the Grind House poster is going to look like.

here the latest one:

nice to see that QT & RR have a word to say at the graphic department.

It’s quite incredible how the poster is so drastically similar to the fan made ones Pete made some months ago!

#4

Yeah that’s true ! Cool stuff by Pete. But they could have ripped off less.

I looked at the Drag Strip Girl/Rock All Night poster and tried to do my own thing with it. It looks like the Grindhouse poster basically copied it exactly except changed the names/photos. I love that style of Exploitation poster though. Looks awesome!! 8)

Heres mine, just if you want to compare (I should update this one a bit and add some extra goodies):

Haha, it’s amazing how QT’s mind works. I’ve heard so many quotes like this where he thinks of stuff on the spot.

Eg.

RR: I was thinking of doing another film involving the El Mariachi character

QT: Oh, yeah. That’d be so cool. This could be your ‘Dollars Trilogy’, alright. You should call it "Once Upon A Time In Mexico"

or

Uma: Hey, I was thinking of a film where a woman is laying on the floor, with all these wounds, wearing a wedding dress.

QT: Oh yeah, tha’d be so cool. And she’s been murdered by her lover and Boss, alright. We could call it “Kill Bill”.

;D

Does anyone know if they are gonna release anymore posters? I like the latest poster but the star of Death Proof isnt even on the poster :-</E>

this is what is so great when you are a fan of exploitation cinema: you don’t get to love the movies but their trailer and/or poster as well!! you don’t get that with a Ken Loach movie! (though i kinda like ken loach…)
