The Music / Soundtrack

I want the cinema-going experience to be as unpredictable as possible. I’m staying away from this topic. ;D

You should be in good hands, because you should know by now (When it comes to QT’s films) that there will still be plenty of cool music that won’t appear on the official soundtrack. 8)

Wonder which one will be the opening credits

I’ve been thinking about this too. The movie will likely open with “Green Leaves of Summer” to accompany the French countryside (Please oh please, let it be the accordion version Fingers crossed) and “The Verdict

(Dopo la condanna)” is likely to be set to the tragedy that will ensue (Probably when Shosanna’s running) But what will the credits be? No idea.

I also wonder what dialogue-quotes will appear on the soundtrack too.

which one do you guys think is the main titles song? Cat People?

I want to be surprised on August 21st.

me too, but i cant help myself but read everything and listen to everything until there isnt any surprise anymore hehe

Same here. It’s just too fun to speculate.

Just some further confirmation: Yes, it’s gonna be The Entity music we’ll hear. The 20th Century Fox copyright is labeled with “Bath attack” on the kit/link (Entity is a Fox film) This music will definetly play over one of the more violent/shocking scenes in IB.

I’m beginning to think that Cat People will be the credits song. The slow opening is too perfect for a title card (As it is with the Cat People movie) I just wonder if the rest of the song will play in it’s entirety.

Its gonna be awesome hearing an 80s New Wave track in a WWII film. Stevie Ray Vaughn is the one whose playing guitar on that song too btw.

Update: I guess Stevie only played on the Lets Dance LP cut, not the film version.

I have these tracks (12/20):

  1. Cat Peolple - David Bowie / Giorgio Moroder (from Cat People)
  2. The Green Leaves of Summer - Dimitri Tiomkin (from “The Alamo”)
  3. Il Mercenario (ripresa) - Ennio Morricone (from “Il Mercenario”)
  4. Mystic and Severe -Ennio Morricone (from “Death rides a horse”/“Da Uomo a Uomo”)
  5. Un Amico - Ennio Morricone (from “Revolver”)
  6. After The Verdict (Dopo la Condanna) - Ennio Morricone (“The Big Gundown”/“La resa dei conti”)
  7. The Surrender (La Resa) - Ennio Morricone ("The Big Gundown/“La resa dei conti”)
  8. Rabbia e Tarantella - Ennio Morricone (from “Allosanfan”)
  9. Algiers, November 1954 (Algeri: 1 Novembre 1954) - Ennio Morricone (from “The Battle of Algiers”)
  10. Un Dollaro Bucato - A Man… a story - Gianni Ferrio (from “One Silver Dollar”/“Un dollaro bucato”)
  11. Davon Geht Die Welt Nicht Unter: Bruno Balz, Michael Jary
  12. White Lightning - Charles Bernstein (from "The White Lightning)

Zulus from Elmer Bernstein is an incredible track, listening it right now, wow.

Mystic and Severe, L’incotro con la figlia, Rabbia e Tarantella, Algiers are among the best I’ve heard from Morricone.

I really dig the devil’s rumble too.

This soundtrack that QT has put together is so different from what he is used to, he’s surprising me. I’m even starting to wonder if we are not wrong for the tone of the movie, there is really deep stuff in it.

I’m wondering if any of the soundtrack is temporary. Since there seems to be a few tracks from Kill Bill. Did he have enough time to think about the music after thinking about getting an original score or did he have to just pull from what he knew off the bat to make the Cannes screening, or do those tracks just work as good or better here?..

There’s a thought. Is this soundtrack not up to typical standards though?

I’m not saying that, I’m just talking about the possibility…like maybe he had to play it safe without having time to sample other possibilities…but knows what he has will still do the job, if you know what I mean.

yeah this is awesome. i love the few tunes i’ve listened to. i agree that the trailer and clips are nothing like the final product in the sense of tarantino-ness.

man i’m so excited now

As am I. Can’t wait to be hearing views and opinions as of Wednesday. Shame that we’re gonna have to wait 2+ months till we get to see it.

Kill Bill related music is probably supposed to be there to show thematic connections. This is what we were talking about in regards to QT being influenced by Kill Bill a little bit in this film. Its highly unlikely that we wont see any references to his older films in this movie.

anyone who could corral all these disparate, eclectic tracks into a group of mp3s or URLs or something in a folder would be my hero. some of these are just too hard to find.

the production of the movie might have been rushed…but he was imagining this scenes and thinking about what tracks he would use for many years, i believe…so, i think thats really what he wants…anyway, im not sure if the soundtrack is up for the usual standards;

i liked it, but it seems just a little less interesting…except for some of the orchestral work and Cat People…i dont wanna sound like one of those guys who keep judging too much about a movie they havent seem yet, so this is just an impression hehe anyway this is period movie, what probably makes it harder to choose his usual kind of music…not to mention that we have seem more movies from him, so we are getting a little used to his way

until i watch it, its hard to tell

You have to install winrar to extract the files, that’s all.

SPOILER ALERT!

i have been listening to cat people and i think that the begining of that song could play while Shoshana is running away from the Nazies…then when Bowie givis his first scream, the title could apear, and the rest of the song would play during the initial credits until the moment when they star repeating “been so long”…i think it could be that way hehe but its hard to guess

i mean when Bowie screams “Gasoline!!!” and the music kicks off

Dunno, hard to know where he’s gonna put this one. He could use it in a literal way too, using the lyrics and the energy of the music to match what’s happening on screen, if you know what I mean.

We got a Morricone score after all, didn’t we? I’m 100% positive that it’s better for the movie that Morricone didn’t do an original score. It’s better that Quentin got this kind of “best of”-for the movie.
