I actually like watching Jaws 2 whenever I catch it on TV during the summer. It’s corny as hell yes, stupid even (the shark attacking and drowning a helicopter? WTF, I never thought sharks ate metal); but I find it entertaining as hell when I’m in the mood for it.

No, man. Sharks eat damn near anything, including metal.
I don’t agree with those choices:
Escape from LA
Rambo II + III
Blues Brothers 2000
Star Wars Epsiode I, II, III
From Dusk Till Dawn 2 and 3
Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2
…because I enjoyed all of them! None of these were pointless, they were all good.
And how can you say Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 is pointless? It’s an awesomely funny movie, only for that Vanilla Ice scene it should be considered gold material.
The first movie that came to mind was Rocky Balboa. Almost equally pointless to Rocky 5. Although they are both good movies.

…And how can you say that TMNT 2 is relevant and claim Rocky VI is pointless?! :o
After the utterly depressing Rocky V, I think Rocky VI was damn near necessary!
(Ninja Rap FTW!)
SAW 2,3,4…Saw #3000. People are just paying to see the same o’ shit!
LMAO, unrated?? Are they turning the Dukes of Hazzard into softcore porn?

Alien: Resurrection

i found it less pointless then the third… i agree with Cameron that the third was a slap in the face to fans of the previous film

The Bourne Identity is one of the few good Hollywood action films of the 2000’s. Better than any Bond film from the last two decades.

Alien 3 is masterpiece. Resurrection was pointless.
how exactly is it a masterpiece? its not frightening like the first and its not action packed like the second… a lot of people think oooo its David Fincher now i see… its good… but he only came into the production late because the original vision failed and the studios fucked with it so much i doubt he even got final cut, in fact i think they had to cut him out of the Quadrilogy set extras because he was so openly pissed at the studio.
the bottom line is it adds absolutely nothing to the series ( despite the fact that resurrection screwed up it at least did that ) and that its based on a plot hole ( which ive discussed before in a few other forums )
i suppose i cant say its MORE pointless then resurrection though now i think about it…
Fincher’s bad studio experience prevents him from seeing the film’s excellence. It’s a perfect continuation for the series. The first one was a slow moving horror thriller, the second an all out action film, and the third a stylish panic horror film (one of the reason why the original trilogy is so great is that each film is completely different from each other). And more than horror it’s a science fiction film. The prison surrounding (especially in the extended cut) is far more interesting than the space ship of the first film or the colony of the second. Bringing “The Company” into the film gives it an almost epic feel. Ripley’s character is also more interesting in the third film, as well as her relationship to other characters. Definitely the most atmospheric film in the series (EDIT: ok, maybe the first film is on par, but it’s a very different kind of atmosphere)
Perfect continuation? at the end of the second film the alien species was totally wiped out, ripley had faced her daemon, everything that had been left unresolved in the first film is dealt with and it all come full circle… this film start with the dubious plot hole and at this point the characters have already been through so much its anti climactic…
it is good that it tried to do something different though…
how can i put this the other characters dont really have character the only two prisoners that stand out are Dance and Dutton, dance is killed right in the middle of establishing his character and Dutton is distant the hole film, all the characters that have already been established are killed off at the beginning so all the emotional investment is gone, visually it is the most inclosed of the films ( even the original gave a feeling of the vastness on LV426, the derelict and the nostromo, the second was just a visual epic ) The other films feel far more epic in scale, in this all we get is another alien going around killing a bunch of random prisoners in a place thats about as impressive as youd expect an abandoned prison to be, the special effects for the alien are the worst of the three ( well not really its just the chasing scenes are particularly bad )
as for ripleys character well shes good but shes already been through so much…
dont even get me started on the atmosphere of the first 2 films, basically they set the standard for scifi at the time…
anyway i dont want to make it seem like i hate this film… its just i have a really hard time likeing it being a fan of the first 2, and i really dont mean to be rude to you its just i disagree a bit …
Killing off Newt and Hicks in the opening credits was the shittiest decision they could ever have taken. That’s what Cameron is probably referring to when he describes it as a “slap in the face”.
I can watch any of the Alien films myself. I cant say I like 3 and 4 as much as the first 2, but theyre watchable. 1 and 2 def are my faves.
