Onto some questions and constructive(?) cristism…

  1. I’m just curious why you didn’t slice the “KILL BILL” in the Crazy 88 issue like you did in the Marvel issue? The dropped shadow in C88 was different too… towards the end of “BILL”, the shadow is hardly visible (the top-right part).


  2. May I know what filter you used or the steps involved to get the Bride (C88), Elle Driver (Elle Driver) and Pai Mei/Bride (Bride in China) in those colours? Is it solarize? I would really like to know. :slight_smile:


  3. The blood on the Hattori Hanzo steel in C88 issue looked… a little frozen to me. Like icicles? :þ


  4. Is it all solely done in Photoshop? Not really a question, more of an irrelevant comment. I’m not very skilled in Photoshop so I’m more likely to pull something like this in Illustrator. Yah, I’ll have to do all the effects in Photoshop first but where the layout is concerned, it’s Illustrator for me. :slight_smile:



    At any rate… keep them coming!!! I really love the collection.

O-Ren Questions:


  1. I couldve sliced it in half. It actually would look cooler, I agree. That shadow on the LL’s just sorta fell that way.


  2. The only thing I used on the pics of Elle, Bride etc to give em that high tinted look is brightness/contrast and a lil bit if color balance.


  3. Since I dont have any scanner right now, I cant draw pictures by hand so, thats why all the Crazy 88s are so squared and symmetrical looking. I used to lasso to create the blood dripping/squirting and filled it with red.


  4. Right now all I have is Photoshop to draw with. I used to have Illustrator and Freehand but I had to get rid of them because they werent compatible with my new OS. If I did have them, Id definitely be using them as well. But Im not trying to do anything too complex with these covers, just havin some fun. Really just keepin my artistic juices flowin a little bit.

Thanks, Toothpick, for the clarifications (and the spesh issue)! I’m studying something along the graphic design line so naturally I can’t help but nit-pick sometimes. Okay fine… all the time.



I’m not terribly bright at coming up with layouts myself and perhaps I can pick up a thing or two from you. AND YES!! By all means, have fun doing it! I’ll just treat them as scams instead of FAs from now on. Ideas first and foremost, execution later.

In fact, this artwork and ideas of yours are teasing me to death because I could easily picture these issues sitting next to other cool publications on the magazine rack.
