The 1990s

Im sure there are plenty of good little indie bands, I just mean as far as pop music goes, it pretty much sucks.

Yeah but music can provide you other stuff than pop music. And even pop music is doing great right now, there’s always shitty stuff like in every decade but some hits will stay in the top list from the 2000’s.

Yeah…I actually have to travel back in time with music now if I want to enjoy it.

Sad, really.

Ahah, well, you’re wrong. You live in the USA, there are PLENTY of small indie rockbands who are more than worthy. There are a lot of awesome hip hop singers and producers nowadays too, which contributed a lot to the hip hop arena. No need to mention all the UK indie bands, my fav. And if you are looking more further, French electro is very good and better than any other decade, aussie/canadian/swedish indie bands can be very good too. And so on.

you’re forgetting that I’m a musician - I am aware of the bands like modest mouse that are out there - but they aren’t being played on the radio…instead we get to hear some nasal-voiced black kid sing "you are too beautiful girl, you got me suicidal, suicidal, suicidal…"

wtf?

We’ll see!

Anyway, music is matter of taste, like movies or novels. One thing we all to agree on, even if we don’t list the same music, music is doing nowadays and no need to turn back to the old past to be satisfied. I love oldies, I really do, but I also love recent stuff. Only decade I complain about is 80’s. Only rare and specific stuff are valuable and will stay in my top list from the 80’s.

Ahah, you’re right, but sorry, I don’t listen to the radio, only when I am in the car and have forgotten all my cds. Except of this rare moment, no radio for me. Though I know tracks being played on the radio.

I won’t remember of those, only some cause some hits are really valuable, but I prefer to remember such indie bands like Modest Mouse.

Very true! The good stuff you never hear on the radio. Wanna know why? Here, let me put you in on a little secret: It doesn’t make money.

It could be the best fucking song ever written, but if it doesn’t make money you’ll never hear it from the media. If someone wants to buy a blank CD that someone shit all over, you can guarantee that there will be more of it out there. That’s why everything sounds the same that’s on the radio, because that’s what sells.

That’s when I love to hear a fresh underground band that’s only known to it’s locals. Floater is probably the best thing I’ve found in a long time and the only reason you’ve probably never heard of them is because they’ve turned down every big contract that comes their way. To them it’s about the love for music, not the money. You rarely see that anymore.

The only new(okay maybe not real but you know what I mean)at the moment is CKY and Black Label Societ, Zakk Wylde rules.

I pretty much dont listen to new music I mostly like 60’s-90’s music.

How did the people listen to music back in the past when there were no MTV, not hundred millions of radio channels, no 100-billions-of-dollars-commercial-campaign-to-listen-to-the-brandnew-$$$-Nr1-hit ?

Music quality isn’t evaluated from the radio or TV. Music quality isn’t money. We agree on that. So if you also think there are good bands from the 2000’s, that’s all we need to hear. No need to talk about radio playing -or not- the best indie bands from the 2000’s.

Edit : There are radio channels, which play indie bands, only small indie bands, which plays bands without contracts. These kind of radio channels are… american ! Yeah, don’t complain, americans, you are lucky and can actually listen to such radio. There are also available for the whole world on the internet.

Sorry, but the 80s SUCK. The fashion, the cars, the MUSIC, the movies (except for a handful of exceptions). The me-generation. Selling out. 80s are like… plastic, it’s like the decade of plastic. I hate the 80s.

What about the music?

Bon Jovi

GNR

Metallica

Megadeth

Depeche Mode

Iron Maiden

Europe

Anthrax

Red Hot Chilli Peppers

Sisters Of Mercy

I think when they hear the words “eighties music”, many people’s brain starts and stops at Samantha Fox. Sad, really. Lest we forget, the nineties was also the generation responsible for bringing all those shitty teen boy bands to fame. Now THAT is something worthy of hating. Backstreet Boys, Boyzone, N SYNC…haha, and you have the guts to call eighties music shitty. ;D

80s had great music IMO. Some of it I dont like, but alot of it I do.

Oh damn, I always want to erase teen boy bands… What do you remind us of them, Scar :-</E> Those are parts of the worst stuff music brought in the 90’s…

Metallica was really great in the 80’s

80’s Greats

Van Halen

The Cure

The Cars

Depeche Mode

Ahah, I guess George Michael could win the worst short pant contest ever ;D

Theres no point in making lists of “great” bands and “crappy” ones. Music is personal for everyone. Someone might like James Taylor, someone might like Dokken. Art is about freedom and expression, its not about suppression. I say listen to whatever you enjoy.
