i just recently found out from a friend that QT used to live in Manhattan Beach, CA. i was shocked because i live there too! me and QT have the same hometown, it’s crazy. to think that all i do is watch movies and all he did was watch movies is cool. i didn’t know we had so much in common. to bad i probably won’t become a successful director. oh well, that’s what dreams are for…
you didn’t know he lived there??
BOY! that’s where the “Manhattan Beach Video Archives” was! check your hood if that building is still there, make some pictures!
You just found out about it? How can you live in a town and not know a famous director lived there? Must be a big town.
the reason i didn’t know he lived there is because i just recently started getting into QT’s stuff, and on the res dogs dvd, there’s like a whole segment on where he started of. i watched it and thats when i found out. i think it’s really cool. pictures? never thought of that. good idea…
I live in Manhattan Beach too. It’s not a big town at all. I’ts around three square miles.  I haven’t seen the store. Actually, i have no idea where it is. My friends have been there, and they said it was shitty.
The coolest shit about it is that a lot of his movies have things around here. He worked in Manhattan Beach, where i live. In Jackie Brown, one of Melanie’s house is on the strand in Hermosa Beach. Hemosa Beach is a tiny beach town. It’s about a square mile, and it’s right next to manhattan beach. In Jackie Brown they go to the Del Amo mall to do the whole money exchange. the Del Amo mall is less than fifteen minutes away from manhattan beach. That’s one of the coolest things about Jackie Brown to me. I know where they are half the time. In Pulp fiction Jules says he lives in inglewood and Vincent says he lives in redondo. Redondo also touches manhattan beach. All of those towns are really small and really close together.
Oh yeah, i was watching jackie brown when writing that and realized that every city that they mention is within a half an hour of my house. Carson (Where the bail bonds place is) Compton (Where sheranda lives and thinks it’s hollywood) and even hollywood. The valley, where they are in pulp fiction and they say marcellous wallace doesn’t have any friendly places there, is about forty-five minutes away. One of the coolest things is that in Jackie Brown, when they’re in the bail bonds place, there is a picture on the wall that’s from manhattan beach, and it’s hanging on the wall in the Manhattan Beach library, except it’s actual size. it’s the picture of the guy holding up the fish. When i saw that i couldn’t believe it.
One more thing. I was watching jackie brown and realized that when sam L. is trying to get chris tucker in the trunk he offers to bring him to a place called Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles. I’ve never been there but it’s right around here. I think it might be in redondo. It’s weird to hear them talk about places you’re familiar with.
i also live in manhattan beach. the m.b. video archives store is not even 5 mins away from my house. walking distance! i’ve been meaning to go and check it out down there. and i have also been to the del amo mall. i ate in that same food court! how cool is that?
