Two weeks ago I was reading my entertainment weekly and stephen king did a peice on “Do movies matter” at the end of his part 1 he said in part 2 of his colume he would talk about two movies mystic river and kill bill vol 1 he said both movies remarkable in there own rights and why one is a classic. Well lets just say if you read part 1 you guessed that kill bill was not the “classic”.
When I got my et in the mail saturday I was siked too read part 2 of his peice. Lets just say my mouth was on the floor after. He basically called kill bill a tepid movie as he put it, then went on to say how mystic river was just such a good movie and how 10 years from know you would know who was in it and what it was about unlike kill bill.
Did anybody else read this
if you didn’t go to www.entertainmentweekly.com
Yeah well Kill Bill puts to shame about 95% of fucken movies that came out of King’s ass.
stephen king? who cares about that fuck? producing one cheap horror novel after the other. what does he know about art? what right does he have to talk about good movies. not even 5% of his novels have made it into good movies.
stephen king, i laugh my ass of… ;D

Hahaha, so true. Since when did King become a movie critic anyway?
I’ve actually always liked (some of) his work so I’m not going to go too rough on the guy but this motherfucker’s got a tasteproblem. sjeez-louis, why the fuck would he have anything against a masterpiece as kill bill?
On a sidenote: Kill Bill ain’t even a horrormovie yet it has more ‘shriek-moments’ then any of king’s movies (1. when bill shoots bride 2. when vivica shoots bride)
I also didn’t like the fact that he said qt was kind of full of himself for putting “the 4th film by quentin tarantino” at the beggining of the movie. I don’t see anything wrong with that it’s like he just wanted too pick apart the movie. He also try to make a stab at all the people who gave it good reviews
How is putting “The 4th film by Quentin Tarantino” implying that one is full of himself?
Though, I do think that Quentin Tarantino is a bit cocky and full of himself, however rightfully so. The man is a creative genius. However, putting “The 4th film,” I don’t think implies that.
Why don’t you guys lay off King? I mean its his fucking opinion.
I am not taking any sides here and i really dont agree with King but first he wasn’t talking about horror movies since he talked about Mystic River (an excellent movie btw) and second we all know his taste sucks when the only good adaptation of one of his novels was criticized and hated by him!! (That’s Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece The Shining)
JW
i though that mystic river got shit reviews and people thought it was terrible, i know my friends taht saw it definately like KIll BIll better. they were all like Where did yo uhear about this movie, it kicks ass, to me after we saw it.
I don’t get that Stephen King calls Tarantino “cocky” because if you’ve ever read any of his books you know King’s face is like plastered to the back of every fuckn’ book he writes. And his name is just as large as the title of the book.
Well just because King’s opinion of Kill BIll is not of our liking, it doesn’t mean he doesn’t make kickass stories and movies. I like his work. Don’t get me wrong, his opinion sucks, but I still think he’s a good writer.
king should stick to writing shit only stupid ass people who dont have taste want to read…he should seriously shut up…or I’m gonna get medievel on his ass!
wtf did king do in his life that even comes close to anything from QT…damn fuck him!

Sorry to play devil’s advocate here, but Stephen King has accomplished more than Quentin Taraninto in their respective fields.
Also, Stephen King makes his name bigger than the title, because he is such a well known writer. The reader will recognize his name, before they recognize the title.

Yeah well, QT has been arond since the last 12 or so years. King has been around since the Middle Ages.
I have to agree that apart from a few exceptions, King is a really gifted writer. I think no one can argue that. What sucks is his repetitive attempts to bring his novels to the big screen; of which 99% of them turn out to be crap movies. Next time King wants to discuss movies, why doesn't he start from Dreamcatcher, Children of the Corn, the Shining mini-series, the Tommyknockers, Sleepwalkers, Rose Red etc etc.?
i think the people who will really remember Kill Bill are the ones who loved it and saw it for the great movie it was. Kill Bill may not be as widely recognize in 10 years as Pulp Fiction, but as a “cult” film it will be remembered to the those who love it.
Kill Bill and Mystic River are 2 different animals. Youd think Stephen King would know the difference between them. And not try to compare them. How can he compare a 100% balls to the wall Grindhouse Exploitation revenge film and a serious crime drama?
I havent seen Mystic River, but Im sure its a good solid film by Clint Eastwood.
But Kill Bill lives and breathes through the movie geek community, thats its fan base, all of us who obsess over the details, the music, the references etc etc. In 10 years we will still be watching Kill Bill Vol 1 and 2 and enjoying them along with other new QT films, talking about them etc.
Sorry to say but Mystic River isnt that kind of movie Stephen.

NO, QT is a god in the movie industry, and King is an overrated writer for the masses, if he did movies/television he would do some soap opera! QT is among the best in the movie industry, King is not in writing, sorry…
The people who watch movies will watch Tarantino stuff 50 years from now and respect it like we respect Hitchcock…
Nobody considers any of kings work as a masterpiece…and if they do, they should serieusly read some other books…its like claiming kevin costner as the best director, without seeing anything from QT, scorcese, spielberg, lucas, etc…

“Obviously a masterpiece, probably the best supernatural novel in a hundred years”. Peter Straub on “The Shining”.
“One of the greatest storytellers of our time”. Guardian
A writer of excellence…one of the most fertile storytellers of the modern world". The Sunday Times
" A svelte and compelling masterpiece". The Sunday Telegraph on “Dolores Claiborne”.
“As a storyteller, he is up there in the Dickens class”. The Times.

dude,
here is the point: king is a good writer in his own "write fast as hell, sell as much as I can mediocre writer" kind of way and class and yeah hes probably as good as dickens, but nowhere near guys like nietsche, schopenhauer, marcel proust, shakespeare, vladimir nabokov, etc this is the top class of writing, king is mos def below this class....
And QT is mos def in the top class of the movie shit....
there is no class above the one that tarantino is in....
if critics are writing that as the world turns is the best soap opera around and you can compare it to the bold and the beautiful that doesnt mean that there isnt a higher form of television! just like comparing king to dickens doesnt mean there isnt a higher form of writing.....
and my opinion in movie industry there isnt a class above the class QT is in.....
